  • NICE..but ....Remember all of these "rare" studio recordings were stolen from Jimmy's house. They should never have been published, heard or posted, no matter how fantastic cool, groovy and awesome they are--unless of coutrse you're cool with your diary being stolen and published.

  • Well maybe so but remember all the songs that Led Zep used or as they say the ones they stole and never paid royalties. There is quite a few, I guees what comes around goes around. I am a very bis Zep Fan

  • I heard all these great out takes when i was a wee little guy back in 1987 on cassette,my brother had a friend that had all these awesome Zeppelin bootlegs etc. I remember sitting and listening to these over and over when I first discovered the best band ever at the ripe ol age of 9

  • wealth of tom is in his chord progression

  • Rare?

  • this song is so evil , the song is about getting cheated on and then shoot the damn bastard that slept with your wife.

    its so eery.

  • @jamirosmajicrocks kinda like jimi hendrix poor joe joe got cheated on and gun down the man instead of the women. but great song u gotta admitt

  • tom is my name :(

  • I assume that's not Bonham clapping outta time midway thru this?

  • @coffeeairplane no robert was kinda known for having bad timing a lot of times!

  • @coffeeairplane Has to be Percy, only him and Jimmy went to Bron-Yr-Aur in 1970

  • after time, you may find that havoc.... et al?

  • something that a beatle nor a micheal jackson had approached sucessfully

  • oh, clapton did that too

  • pretty damn evil to sell your soul and throw your child out of a fucking wwindow,,, just to avoid baton rouge... neil peart lost children, in a way.

  • Hail to the members of Led Zeppelin. RIP John Henry Bonham, the greatest drummer that ever lived. A very fine compilation of artists. They are truly the greatest band ever, by their depth.

  • Sounds a little like Embryonic Journey by Jefferson Airplane

  • oh my god! sounds like 30s blues song!!

  • JImmy Page worked so head. Thanks Jimmy for everything!!!

  • "That's about it, isn't it?"

  • Zepplin the best and most creative band ever

  • is that karac at 2:00?

  • @madrox1994 No, it's Carmen Plant.

  • @madrox1994 no, that's Carmen :)

  • toolkien yes, but Jake Holmes was a bloody fool not to sue. he had them stitched up and would have won hundreds of thousands of pounds. however the worst Zep 'nick' is from Fresh Garbage - the opening riff to Stairway.

Most of Zep's stuff however, is original to them. Regarding Stairway Page does say the riff was "directly inspired" by Fresh Garbage with whom they were touring early in their career.

  • @caesarcerf I don't believe Page said anything about inspiration for Stairway. This is the first I read it anyway.

  • @zeppelinn There was a group in the 60's and 70's named Spirit. Led Zeppelin toured with them in 1969. Spirit did a song called Taurus. 2 years later, Zepp comes out with Stairway to Heaven. Look up Spirit Taurus. It's on youtube. Not trying to bash Zepp, but they did get taken to court a LOT. In defense of Page, he did say, and factually so, that MAY blues guitarists traded licks.

  • @woody2327 I heard that song man. There's that similar chord progression everyone's refering to. I just don't think this is so unique. I bet neither Spirit nor Zepp are the first/only ones who used something like that. And dude... this is only the intro of Stairway. I usually skip to the fourth minute when I listen to it. I mean the bootlegs - interesting things begin to happen after that you know. :-)

  • @zeppelinn Good point about probably not being the first. Hell, when I started playing guitar, I came up with the chord progression D E G. Beatles Eight Days A Week. I also came up with Am C Am G etc. Turned out, it was The Battle of Evermore.

    Good point! Thanks mate.

  • This has always inspired me to listen outside of the box, to hear one thing and then the possibilities other songs within that idea. It's not plagiarism, it's increasing an already existing entity and raising it to the next level. Led Zeppelin are the greatest!!

  • this is beautiful

  • i dont care if led zeppelin coppied anyone or not... their music is still the best there ever has been...

  • haunting and beautiful

  • lets be glad the version off coda made it

  • The Jonas Brothers are you kidding? Led Zeppelin did steal alot from the blues and folk artists. This does not mean everything that they recorded was stolen. Listen to Kashmir or The Crunge! Led Zeppelin were the "Unicorns of the Music World"!! Im sure it is safe to say that no one will be stealing from The Jonas Brothers.

  • @monkeyfly4 They stole their magic from the unicorns. They would grind up their horns and sprinkle the dust on their instruments. Its true, google it.

  • @monkeyfly4 I wouldn't say they 'stole' blues music from people they always credited the people who originally wrote the tracks and as page said 'we took 2 or 3 minute tracks and turned them into 7 or 8 minute tracks we added enough of our own material too call these versions our own' :D

  • @slayerman50

I agree they should have put the credits but even then they totally changed the songs. The only riff I can say Zep stole?I guess Bron yr Aur Stomp from Bert Jansch. But blues men borrowed from others so why should it matter now. Hmmm the money??

  • The most obvious non blues lifted riff was dazed and confused from Jake Holmes. But since Jake Holmes isn't spitting mad over it I'm not going to get up in arms over it. My take on all this lifting others stuff is that the likes of zeppelin's dazed and confused has been played literally millions of times on radios and sound systems all over the world while Jake Holmes' hasn't. So while some was lifted, they MUST have added some little bit extra to the mix, no?

  • @toolkien They took it further than the original composer without discarding the original framework. Just because one can write the opening riff to a great song or symphony, that doesn't necessarily mean one can finish it . . . But I ramble.

  • @Earthdogbonzo3 ..on?

  • @coltsuperocean10 In the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair but Gollum " The Evil One" crept up and slipt away with her, her . . .Yeahhh!

  • Does anyone have tabs for this version or know what tunning its in? Is it still open C6?

  • @Killinfloor Yeah, the song is in C6, although you could play it with the low A tuned to G.

  • thanks for posting this. Sounds like John Fahey :)

  • hahaha 2 have thumbed down. Republicans....

  • @nipplebag what the fuck does politics have to do with zep? music and politics are 2 totally different things. it would be like me saying all who dont like the simpsons are democrats. its stupid!

  • @guitarplaya786 Never heard of Rage against the Machine or Midnight Oil or 1000 other bands I don't have room for here? There's heaps of politics in music. Sorry if you're a Republican, but you did prove my point with your answer. No more talky now. Me sleepy from talking big word.

  • @nipplebag what im saying is what music you listen to doesnt determine what your political views are. im a conservative, but i listen to CSNY, rage, etc. musicians express their political views but not everyone has to agree.

    ps Zep was pretty apolitical

  • 1:35 !

  • what they did was not "stealing" like stealing 100$ from yourteacher.

you can think of it as stealing bread to feed your starving family after a devistating earthquake destroyed your home.

just like how a tree's roots are as deep in the ground as the tree is high, the roots are probally the most important part of the tree. it goes the same with musicians

"You can never forget your roots" - Jimmy Page

  • If they did today what they did in the 60's Led Zep would be sued, but that's the legal business side of music. Creatively, how can you not want to play like Muddy Waters, Wilie Dixon, Robert Johnson, and a ton of others. It's still the best. except for the Jonas Bros. who really rock so goddamn hard!....

  • @KingKook dude jonas brothers? really? seriously? dude...they suck...

  • i know you commented a month ago but Led Zeppelin were sued

  • we just want to state that we never wrote this comment and we don't know who is using our page and name but someone is and we are trying to find out so excuse us keep rockin' see ya!!

  • Comment removed

  • I don't hate Zep at all. I fucking love them. Read my original comment down below. But they DID steal! And there's a way to do it, and a way not to do it.

  • This tune is very much like Prodigal Son. Definately cut from the same cloth. Melody wise and structurally. It's credited to Page and Plant, but I think they're taking some artistic license with this. They've done that before on their first few lps. But you can't help but love it anyway. What is it about Zeppelin that makes me turn a blind eye to such plagiarism? Any other group, I'd piss on.

  • Its becuase they never blatenty ripped anything off. they took elements and things they liked and made it their own, as alot of blues artists do.

  • hate to disappoint you , (and I'm a huge Zeppelin fan also), but Black Mountain Side is a blatant rip from Bert Jansch of the Pentangle. D'Yer Mak"er is Angel Baby from Rosie and the Originals put to a Reggae beat. Then of course, there's Stairway's rip from Spirit's Taurus. Not to mention many melodies from folk tunes like this tune. Face it,man, these guys got away with a lot! If there was absolutely no originality, I wouldn't bother listening to them at all.

  • I have heard all of these examples. ALL of them! im suprised you didnt mention dazed and confused, thats the only one that even is acknowledgable as plaigarism. dont even get me started on how wrong you are about the rosie and the originals!!!! HAHA you are nuts! the chord progression is the only thing similar! HAHAHA!~ as far as the tuarus one... do you know how common a downward chromatic progression is in music? and the end of the acoustic cycle is way off.

  • Ok, King of Rock! You have impressed my to no end with you're incredible knowledge. The fact is I just got tired of listing the countless examples of plagiarism by these guys. You don't see any other rock bands getting that type of criticizm. Wonder why? I guess the Beatles were just lucky not to het caught or something, right? Originality is a pretty safe bet, for sure.

  • Learn how to spell criticism (not criticizm) before you give it.

  • i spell fine. My finger slipped because i tend to type too fast. Now who's the critic?

  • every Page interview I read 40 years ago mentioned Jansch - obvioulsy Page liked ripping off people very very publicly ................

  • Sorry to inform you, but EVERYONE has their influences. No one is exempt from that. When I was at Berklee College of Music, a great teacher was quoted as saying "Good artists borrow, Great arists steal". Sorry to dissappoint you.

  • @joshuakirk1 Ha ha good one. My teacher at Humber college who use to room with Lenny Breau told me the same thing 20 years ago. Cheers

  • There isn't a modern guitar player alive who hasn't borrowed from others. You make it sound like he made a living stealing from people LOLOL!

  • That's because no one blues artist can claim the right or the patent to the form(s) that make it the blues. Therefore no one sues each other.

  • haha! "countless acts of plaigarism" haha all two? haha!

  • Ya, right! Only two. Two that you'll admit to. Whatever. Have a nice day. BTW, did I tell you that I coined that phrase? LOL!

  • ok! your right, they plagairised all of the things you said. i just hope no one else besides you realizes how strict the rules of plagairism really are, or else... everyone who has EVER written a song will get sued! except for King Crimson cause they really don't sound like anyone.

  • Well, you're right about King Crimson, anyway. And don't forget Television. Pretty unique sounding group themselves.

  • jimmy page just doesnt suit a beard like, he looks like an old drunk with one lol

  • Holly shit!!!! i have so many outtakes like any Zep fan but i never had listened something like this

    FIVE! man thanks for sharing!

  • awesome! i love this song i wish i lived in the 60's and the 70's but im thirteen.

  • Only if you were a white male.

  • you are obviously a very perceptive young person.good on ya.

  • this is great!

  • 5 obviously

  • Sounds like a '30's quality recording. plants vocals almost sound a little like a robert johnson track. Haunting.

  • I love it. Feels like a Bonnie & Clyde scene fleeing from bank robberies.

  • Couldn't agree more!

  • @fizzled1 Yes!

  • @fizzled1 Eerie, but you're right!

  • never critisize music you dick
