  • ''So you are Tatania Romanova''

    It's Tatiana.

No wonder he didn't get the role

  • How hot is Maude Adams...I would ;-)

  • This would have been a disaster. Bond must have an accent!

  • an excellent test my ass.

  • "Just the right size" He means his cock!

  • WOW! nice body!!!!! Lucky Barbra!

  • Whoah wait, were they planning a remake of From Russia with Love? Or is that just a generic screen test from a random Bond movie they chose?

  • @ScottyMcGeester All actors auditioning for Bond act out this particular scene.

  • @ScottyMcGeester This is the only scene potential Bonds must do for audition. Its based on their previous work and this scene which is filmed as a screen test, they all arent out to the public like this one tho of course

No mola.

  • James Brolin was always a good looking man, and his son is just as handsome.

  • Man, James Brolin looks like Christian Bale back in the day!

  • What?!

  • well sorry and im not a dumbass but u can kiss mine 67stu

  • well sorry!!!

  • Only two have have actually been British?? Really?? Only two Bonds have actually been ENGLISH. Britain is comprised of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Therefore, Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Daniel Craig are ALL British; that makes 4 British Bonds. When someone says a British accent, do they mean English? And for that matter, where in England? British = English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish. Her Majesty's Secret Service doesn't discriminate! pyrokid00=DUMB-ASS

  • Comment removed

  • @pyrokid00 You mean only two have been English. With the exception of George Lazenby (an Australian) they have all been from the British Isles though. Roger Moore and Daniel Craig are English, Sean Connery is Scottish, Timothy Dalton is Welsh (with an American mother and English father) and Pierce Brosnan is Irish. But if you guys think James Brolin is bad, according to Roger Moore a certain Burt Reynolds was at one time considered for the role. Yikes.

  • Who the heck said this was an excellent test?

  • Yikes.

  • James Bond only needs a British accent - anyone can play him

  • Josh Brolin's dad.....

  • Not good, Sam Neill did better...

  • Brolin at 6.4 would have been the tallest Bond ever. Believe he was 45 in 1983 so quite old. Cubby Broccoli first took an interest in 79 after Brolin's action man performance in Capricorn One.

  • I can see Either Brolin (james or josh) as Felix leiter or Nick Fury but not as bond

  • i love the way he says 'although he's an American, he's kinda sophisticated'

  • Christopher Reeve would have made an excellent Bond. When you think about it, he was a superb leading man, handsome, tall, and had demonstrated a fine english accent. He was also an excellent actor, very good at portraying intensity. Shame it never happened.

  • @randomdave30 Not really. I can't see Bond in a wheel chair. I am totally supportive of people with disabilities, but it wouldn't have been good for the series imo.

  • @MrGrevy I meant before or apart from the tragic accident that you imbecile

  • @randomdave30 Oh ok got it.

  • @randomdave30 He was Superman. No matter what the casting directors may have lead him to believe, there will always be that association. That's why Henry Cavill will probably never get it, unless he's a crap Superman.

  • terrible

  • Thank GOD this didn't happen. What an ape faced troll.

  • @MrGrevy funny that you mentioned that james brolin also screen tested for Planet of the apes

  • @Remington61189 They could have saved money on the make up at least. Bizarre that this man stumbled into a movie career.

  • dont agree there, and im a brit

  • It's a good test but Bond must always have an English-type accent. And anyone who marries Barbara Streisand should be automatically disqualified (and, yes - I know they weren't married at the time).

  • I liked James Brolin back then, but I don't know about an American actor playing Bond, and yes, I'm also American. (Mel Gibson, Adam West, and Burt Reynolds all turned down offers because they felt Bond should stay an Englishman.)

And actually, Brolin basically had the role. But "Never Say Never Again" would be opening against "Octopussy," so the produces thought the established Bond, Roger Moore, would do better against the competing Bond over a brand new Bond.

  • @MikeAM78 Joe Don Baker was considered for the role of Bond...and no, that's not even a joke. Good god could you imagine.

  • @MikeAM78 Not to mention Clint Eastwood.

And the Bond producers were shitting their pants when NSNA was coming out with Sean Connery in the role.

  • Wow, this guys horrible.

  • barry nelson played bond in the first casino royale, and he was an american. he played bond as an american too. that movie bit, but i think brolin could have done a good job as bond

  • I remember that, that changed the name to Jamie Bond if memory serves.....Bond Jamie Bond dosen't sound right does it?

  • he would've been so dumb Bond !

  • lewis collins as bond or as the equilizer and sam neil as a main bond villian

    alex baldswin as felix lighter

  • I always thaught Ian Ogilvy would be a great Bond after all he took over the role of Simon Templar from Roger Moore why not 007 too!

  • Weak interpretation.

  • God it was horrible - he looked like a retarded silverback gorilla. how did he ever get employed as an actor??

  • Josh Brolin would be better, heh

  • No way would this have worked.

  • thank god brolin never did it..dodged a bullet on that one..

  • he would definitely have been the tallest ever Bond. 6´4.

  • Charles Dance would have made a fine Bond

  • This is just so wrong !

Sam neil or Lewis Collins would have made fine replacement bonds

  • At least Brolin played a Bond-like character at the end of Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

  • The current Bond, Brit or not, doesn't look the part. He's too ugly and unsophisticated to play Bond. He looks like he should be working in a coal mine in Manchester. James Bond should come off like a handsome, sociopathic Prince Charles.

  • Craig is charismatic and an amazing actor who brings emotional levels to the characters, something of which hasn't been shown since Timothy Dalton. Who cares that he is not a pretty boy or isn't the most sophisticated. The franchise was dead in the water after Brosnan and needed a change of direction. Craig made Bond relevant again.

  • Craig is a punchy looking truck driver, who is completely ill suited for the role. Dalton & Brosnan, likewise, sucked. But, at least they more or less looked the part. Bond is all about polished British sophistication. That's the sole reason the character has become a pop-cultural icon. Without that, you don't have Bond. The current Bond is nothing more than a Transporter clone for the short attention span set.

  • Name one Bond film since OHMSS which was superior to Casino Royale. Craig lacks Brit "sophistication", yet he brings levels of complexity, and depth. Moreover, Ian Flemming intended Bond to resemble composer Hoagy Carmichael, who wasn't what we'd consider traditionally leading man handsome. Bond is described in the novels as having a slim build; a three-inch, vertical scar on his right cheek blue-grey eyes; a cruel mouth; short, black hair. Sounds closer to Daniel Craig than Sean Connery.

  • Flemming is on record as having said that Cary Grant was a inspiration for the creation of the Bond character. Cary Grant being the antithesis of Craig's ugly longshoreman aesthetic.

Without Connery, the character NEVER would have caught on, certainly not in these United States in any event. The suaveness of Sean Connery made Bond, period. You know that as well as I do.

  • Connery(my favorite Bond) made 007 an on-screen icon. In order for Bond to stay relevant today the character must evolve. The suave era of Bond died with Die Another. Craig does not look the part, but he brings more to the table. Actors who could bring the complete package would be Denzell Washington, Johnny Depp, or possibly Sam Jackson. Most fans would protest having a black Bond or an American. I'm willing so give up looks, suave and sophistication for character development.

  • no you have it wrong grant was the best man at albert r broccoli the bond producer's wedding when asked to play bond grant said he only wanted to do just one bond movie

  • I don't know what you're blathering on, rather incoherently, about. However, Ian Flemming was on record as having said that he partially based Bond on Cary Grant. If that is what you were alleging that I had wrong, then you are mistaken. Look it up.

  • i think you should look it up the only connection grant had to the bond movies was that he was asked once and turned it down and that he was the best friend of cubby broccoli lan flemming based james bond on himself when he was with mI5 ENGLAND'S CIA he wrote his books in jamaica at his home called goldeneye

  • you are the only one was right ian did think that camichael would make a good bond in fact flemming did want him for the part

  • No. When Bourne came out, the producers realised that the Bond franchise needed a more realistic edge. Connery is a romanticised vision of a British secret agent. Brosnan should do adverts for razor blades.

With Craig, I believe that he is a trained killer with the British Secret Service. He's got that SAS look about him.

  • Daniel Craig looks about as handsome as Sean Connery.

It's not like Connery ever had a pretty-boy face, he was always very rugged-looking. And it's not like Craig is short of female fans either...

  • James Brolin is a decent actor that was never really given a chance to fully flourish to be a leading man in Hollywood. Yet, he didn't quite fit the criteria for Bond. He probably could have played a good adversary of Bond...but to his credit, Brolin is distinguished in his own right.

  • I agree 100% with CommanderD007. The day some bland, generic American becomes Bond is the day Bond is dead to me. Bond should be played by UK Natives only. Period! There's just certain things you don't F**k around with.

  • Um... that already happened George Lazenby took over for Sean Connery for one movie. He was an American.

So Bond is already dead to you I guess/

  • Lazenby was born in Australia in 1938 and moved to London in the sixties to become a model which eventually led to OHMSS. He now lives in America. I can deal with an Aussie but NO bland Americans. I actually think Craig is the best bond since Dalton who, in my opinion, was the most underrated. Like I said MY opinion, to each his own.

  • That make no sense. They're both former colonies of Britain. One just as related as the other.

But I guess you said bland Americans, so interesting Americans are still in.

  • America broke away from Britain over 200 years ago, while Australia never had a proper break (which is why Britain and Australia share the same Queen). I think most British people feel culturally much closer to Australians than Americans.

  • george lazenby was australian

  • Im so glad Moore played Bond in Octopussy.

  • Let me clear up some confusion. The Bond Producers did not want a new face to play Bond in Octopussy. They wanted a man the Audience was familiar with. They wanted Roger Moore and they paid him well. Connery's remake of Thunderball was coming out and the producers wanted to do better at the box office and they thought Moore was their best chance and by the way Octopussy beat Never Say Never Again at the box office. Well done Roger.

  • Well, thank goodness they could not get out of their deal with Roger. However, I have read that Rogr was suposed to hang up the role after FYEO However the producers wanted him back. They paid him well. They did not want a new Bond going against Sean Connery. So, How close did Brolin really come, not real close. James Bond should be British

  • YUCK!

  • Embarrasing.

  • RM:"Didn't seem to bad....but i'll do the flim!"

SG:"Thanks Roger. Now how do we tell james.

    Rm:"I'li do it for you!"

    (Ring Ring)

    JB:"Hello!"

RM: "You can play.......James but only in the bedroom!"

  • An American should never be Bond. Only Brits need apply!

  • @CommanderD007 Well it wasn't the first tie Broccoli (and Salzman) considered and or screen tested American actors. Hell, Adam West (fresh off his TV stint as "Batman) was being considered for OHMSS!

  • @CommanderD007 Pierce Brosnan ain't a Brit!

  • @CommanderD007 You are aware that only two of the six Bonds are British, right? The best Bond to most people's eyes, Connery, was actually Scottish. Lazenby was Australian, Dalton was Welsh, and Brosnan was Irish. Needless to say, the "first" James Bond, Barry Nelson, actually was American.

I see nothing wrong with an American taking on the role. As long as he can act sufficiently "British" enough as Bond, there's not a problem at all.

  • @ReiTheSage Scottish and Welsh people are still British, dufus.

  • Comment removed

  • @ReiTheSage

As much as the Scottish and Welsh may like to think they are a separate entity from the United Kingdom, they are still very much grappled upon England's teet. So yes, Dalton and Connery were British.

  • @CommanderD007 I understand that since he is british rooted but at the same time brosnan was irish and played bond, i think if the right guy from the us played bond and had the rugged look they could pull it off, brolin was not rugged enough in my opinion, is clooney was a better actor i would say he would do alright

  • @CommanderD007 You are too late. There has already been an Australian and an Irish Bond.

  • @CommanderD007 Or those that live in the British Commonwealth.

  • @CommanderD007

What about George Lazenby? He is Australian, and Pierce Brosnan is Irish.

Bear in mind Ian Fleming never once described Bond to have Scottish ancestry, but after seeing Connery play him in the first two movies he added some of that to fit the larger-than-life portrayal from Connery.

  • @CommanderD007 Just like Brits should never be Batman. Americans all the way!

  • @Amar7605 please tell me you're joking.

    Christian Bale is welsh...

  • @CommanderD007

How can you say that when Americans are gracious enough to let Brits play American Parts.

You are just being a bigot.

  • Agreed. Big time.

  • What? Christian Bale went back in time to do a screen test for James Bond??

  • hrmmm... he at least looks the part.

  • James Brolin has done good work but he's a very american actor if you know what I mean. Adopting an accent didn't work for Harrison Ford playing a Russian in "K-19", so I doubt it woulda worked for Brolin either.

  • which james bond movie did he had screen test?

  • The person who put this up said it was 1983 so I guess Brolin was testing for "Octopussy".

  • what the fuck? now imagine daniel craig...shit...they did give it to daniel craig, i wish i was in the parallel universe

  • Reminds me of a young Sean Connery.

  • Yikes! Thank goodness that didn't happen -- I realize he's a white guy, and who can tell the nationalities apart, but it would be like Falcon Crest instead of James Bond.

  • he still gorgeous guuuurrrlll.

  • Anyone else think Brolin looks a little like an older Christian Bale?

  • me!

  • "I know you are but what am I?"

  • A American should never play Bond! Sorry you better be Scottish-Irish-Australian-South African-Welsh and of course Her Majesty's

  • canadian maybe, he was played by a yank in the tv movie as card shark jimmy bond with peter lorre as le chiffre.

I can see Brolin more as a Felix Leiter stealing the show from Bond, perhaps more pragmatic , both with relationships and the field.

  • If he had at least attempted an accent, that would have made it work better.

  • Damn, thank God that didn't happen!!!!

  • Amen!! He sounds dry like George Lazenby.
