I think this was a difficult time for him because Ghost Busters made him a worldwide star and known by everyone, so he was still coming to grips with mega-stardom. He was also worried about Razor's Edge because he put a lot of work into it and didn't want it to fail because someone would think it sucked because it wasn't Ghost Busters.
Filmation -the nice people that brought us He-Man-owned the rights to Ghostbuters-when they made the deal with them for the movie they still got to use the name ghostbusters for a cartoon series (based on the 70's live action show) the resulting cartoon was the one with the two guys and the gorilla. This forced the cartoon based on the movie to be called the "Real" ghostbusters which resulted in much confusion.
"Real" had slimer, but The filmation one had better villains.
Interesting to hear him brush off the idea of a Ghostbusters 2 so readily. I know that, to this day, he never liked GB2. I wonder what got him to do it in the first place.
5 stars. Thank you for this. Seems a rare interview. Interesting. As for the 'is he high' comments, I didn't think so? He seemed very clear. That's just bill Murray, right.
Hmm...."I don't make movies for the money"..I've heard that so many times before! ( "You know, I'm really not sure I wanna do this movie.." "Well, we can offer you $500,000,000" "Oh, go on then, you've twisted my arm.."
I love it - this was obviously done during Bill's "Dr. Gonzo" phase...Bill and Hunter S. Thompson were close personal friends, so much that Hunter had Bill play him in "Where the Buffalo Roam" (great flick). If you have no idea who Hunter S. Thompson is, I highly suggest you visit Wikipedia immediately. Regardless, Bill was stuck in the Gonzo mindframe for months (years?), and I'm assuming this interview was done during that phase.
They talk about Ghostbusters which was made four years later than Where the Buffalo Roam. But, according to Johnny Depp, Bill said that once you get Hunter inside you, you'll never get him out of there.. Imagine having the Good Doctor in your head. I'd kill for that
Doing the obligatory publicity crap here, appears to've just woke up or is jetlagged, wasn't enthused about Razor's Edge, has "fck you" written all over him.
The Razor's Edge was pretty damn good.

I love how taken aback the interviewer was at 8:24 by Bill's comment about doing movies for fun and not money.

at least you've got two people in there might be a little crowded
-bill murray(ghosbusters 1984) bill looks like jim belushi
ghostbusting fact:
it was the extras who turned up for the climax of ghostbusters saved
the movie by chanting ghostbusters because execs at columbia could not
get the rights to the title due to is was tied in with a cartoon and live action version
called ghostbusters in the 70's so the crowd helped to get the title rights to the film and they saved the day.

Lack of rest and hangover from a night of drinking. Anyone who drinks can clearly see and hear it in his voice and appearance that he's drunk.

I like Jay Hale. He's much better than that asshole Bill Murray.

I think he's just apathetic...in every interview, even today's, he seems distant and kinda sad.

@LanaCullen16 Even so he's still so lovable. Some of his later movies he plays apathetic characters so maybe there is a connection.

it would be interesting if Bill Murray could make a movie with Gene Hackman... like a comedy/drama...
I think they have something in common...
