Thanks, Big Ben, for this simple yet helpful video. I won't ever shooting be anything but naturally lit images, But I've really enjoyed all your well done strobe tutorials. Just an old-school film shooter diggin' what you modern photo artists are doing. Thanks again.
@bangbangboogybaby Your glass should be the bulk of your investment. Camera Bodies come and go, but your glass will remain with you the rest of your journey as a photographer. Fast glass is a must for Natural Light Photography
@bigbs4 Ok cool, i know how expensive glass can get from searching but how would i go about choosing lenses? The whole wide angle/Small aperture narrow/Large aperture thing that i've been hearing about is confusing. As well as the whole f stop thing which i was understanding but became confused about.
Thanks so much....I really enjoyed this segment. It was a nice bit of encouragement for me because the more technical side of my photography shoots were really starting to pull me from the enjoyable and creative simplicity of why I am a photographer today! Wonderful shoot by the way....
How do you achieve that kind of exposure @1:18? Like a very smooth, dim and kinda of vintage-y feel to it? If post process is involved, can you tell me a quick drift on how to? Thank you so much in advance.
I'm currently watching all of your videos. I just bought my first sb600 yesterday and i'm very much interested into being a strobist. Good job by the way! (on all of your vids)
The "look" and "feel" of these images were done in post via using a Curves adjustment layer in photoshop. Back in my film days, I loved using Cross Processing. We can now digitally do this in PS by adding curves adjustment and adding forwards and backwards "S Curves" to the RED and BLUE channels. You can then add slight tweaks to the GREEN Channel to balance it all out. Google Photoshop Lomography or Photoshop Cross Processing to find many great Tutorials
The USB Interface I use to record my narrations only allows it to capture vocals in mono. I'm attempting to create a fake stereo sound in Sony Acid and Adobe soundbooth to fix the issue. Thanks for the insight.
@bigbs4 Great videos. Create two tracks, pan one to the left, and pan one to the right. My vocals are always recorded in mono, but is never in just one ear.
II have another one on Strobist's concepts coming up soon. I am always out shooting and editing images, so the videos are composited during my free time. Thanks for viewing and all the support. Stay tuned :)

@bigbs4 I am looking into purchasing a t2i, do you think it is possible to achieve this look/magazine photography look with the right lens?

Get the audio sorted Ben. Your voice is only coming through one speaker. This happens on all your vids

These are really cool bite size tutorials - mate you should release an e-book on single flash shooting. I'd buy it in a flash - no pun intended mate.

what video or is it a dslr camera did you use to shoot this video? I love the clarity of it.. thnks

@lbanzphotography
This was shot with a Panasonic HPX-170 and color graded with Magic Bullet Looks in Adobe Premiere.
Most the time, we couple the Redrock M2e 35mm Adapter so we can use my Nikon Primes for a shallow depth of field.
