  • You are a saint. Thank you so much! :)

  • beloved aunt Judy, thank you very much for this video, it's really helpful. i love it. ^^

  • This is pretty simple, but I have one question do you do the same, if you're left handed or are you left handed?

  • Hi Judy, I am knew at knitting and i like this video it's very simple, but i have a question: in the video you are just doing knit stitches, what if you are doing ribbing and want to add the knew color? Do you have to do knit stitches to make sure it doesn't come out or will it work while alternating knit to purl to knit as well?

  • As a new knitter, I've learned so much from your videos! I want to add color to my knitting projects, but I've been very intimidated. You always give wonderful, clear instructions and I LOVE the angle you video from. Thank you Judy!!!!

  • @backtobasicliving

so glad to hear you like my videos. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Thanks for this video! It is very clear and simple.

  • @tamaj152

glad you found the video helpful. please keep watching. new video posted today. look for me on facebook too.

  • When you switched to purple, what do you do to the ends of the string?

Do you just tie a knot so it doesn't unravel?

  • @siredhuman333

Watch my video on how to weave in ends.

Please keep watching and like me on facebook too.

  • Hi Judy

I'm as green as grass at knitting. My question is, how do you get both the colored threads to be on the same side of the needle? I have watched the video really closely and I have tried this over 20 times already but each time my main color yarn gets stuck at the First stitch(which ultimately becomes the last stitch) when I have knitted the 2nd color for it's first row. Even though I wrap the main color around the new color I still end up with the loose yarn stuck at the last stitch.

  • @MagicBleeds

I hope by now you have gotten the hang of this. I don't know how else to explain it. Please don't give up.

  • @MagicBleeds did she ever answer your question? I have the same problem, it almost seems like you have to go back and forth.

  • I am new to knitting, and adding in a different color had me perplexed. Your videos are awesome! Thank you so much!

  • @backtobasicliving

thanks for watching and learning. like me on facebook for more news.

  • @lilith0886

glad the video helped you. please keep watching and learning. like me on my facebook page too.

  • Judy, don't you have to do that thing where you twist the 2 colours every 3 stitches? Or is that just when you are knitting a love heart into your work? I've seen that video and it's really good!

  • @FuzzyBieber17

Once you've added the new color, if you continue with the new color, you're all set.

  • Wow thank you so much this video is amazing. You are awesome :)

  • @AbbyGus

well, thanks. please keep watching and learning. look for me on facebook too.

  • Hi Judy! Love your videos, I was inspired by the jogless video. Just One Question: When You Want To Add 3 Colors To Your Knitting Would The Same Rules Apply Like In This Video Or How Would You Do It?? Please Respond!

  • @PinkNGlam89

do you mean stripes of 3 different colors? you would do it the same way every time you add a new color.

thanks for writing and look for me on facebook

  • @SoGoGal

great. please keep watching for more and look for me on facebook and twitter.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy I have been following you on Facebook for a while now. I don't have a Twitter though.

  • when i added colour to my knitting (2 different colours i done 3 rows then changed to the other colour) with mine though i done it a little different i did not cut of the other colour on and every row at the the left side you can see one of the colours usually the same as the current on was being done and when it was changed each time i could usually of seen the other colour.

But still it looked great and im nearly finished with it i only done a garter stich for all the rows

  • HI Judy I am 14 and making a flashlight holder for my mom and i am purling the whole thing and i am changes colors in and outgrandma i wanted to know if i can have more then one color ina row? Would it wokrk in one of my Grandma's teddy bear patteren and i am adding 2 colors in one row how would i do that?

  • @rockstar191817

you can change colors, more than one, on each row. that would be like a fair isle pattern. It would work better with stockinette stitch though. It's been a while since you wrote. Have you finished the project? Tell me what you did.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy Yea nice timeing i just got done with it... it came out really well i like it alot... my grandma would be proud....

  • thank you soooooooo much!!! im making a white and green scarf! :)

  • @xXxBadGothAngelxXx

Michagan State? eww i like the colors but not that team

  • @rockstar191817 stfu

  • @xXxBadGothAngelxXx

have you finished your scarf. so glad I could help. new video today. thanks for watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • i'm guessing your using a cotton yarn. am i right? :)

  • @RandomGoth1000

it doesn't matter what yarn you use. the technique is the same. have you tried it yet?

  • I just noticed the colors are very coincidental. Since it's k2p2it looks the same on both sides. Thank god as you understand god for youtube.

  • Very good explanation. . I'm doing a scarf with a k2p2 ribbing and this video helped. Blue and red for my wife. Thanks again.

    Simon in NJ

  • @SlugMcSlug

glad the video helped you. how did your scarf turn out. sounds pretty. please keep watching.

  • This is great for knitting colours that are close together, but what if they are further apart? I'm making a scarf with 3 different colours, each about 2 inches from the next. will the other colours always be close to the row I'm knitting, or will they move farther away as my work progresses?

I'm new to working with more than one colour (this is my first attempt), so it would really help if there was a video on that. Not to sound too demanding : ) . Please let me know?

  • @KinyoobiYoru

watch my fair isle videos. that should help.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy

Thank you very much! I'm Looking forward to learning more from a master (you, of course).

  • @KinyoobiYoru

Hi. Iam having the same problem with my scarf. I alternate the same colour every 2 inches or so. I would like to know how to carry the colour at the edge....Can you help at all?

    Thanks!

  • @MrsMichaelJackson99

I love hearing success stories like yours. Please keep knitting and learning. Please keep watching. New video on today.

  • Hi Judy,

I'm making a scarf that's knit on one side and purl on the other. Is there any way to add color without bumps appearing on the purl side? Or should I just keep this scarf a solid color?

Your videos are great - so helpful and easy to understand.

    Thanks,

    Eric

  • @radesf

The bumps will always show on the purl side when you add color. Thanks for the nice comment on the videos. Please keep watching and look for me on facebook too. New Video today, BTW.

  • amazing:)

  • @kiksasiya

glad you like it. please keep watching. new video today. thanks

  • @cobain812

thanks for the nice comment. glad the videos are helpful to you. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • What if I want to change colors in the middle of a row? Would I do the same thing, or is there some different method?

  • @kleptonica

watch my fair isle videos. that will show you what you want to know.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy Ok, thank you!

  • I just wanted to say thank you for this video! It made it so easy for me to learn how to knit in color and I really appreciate your clear instructions.

  • @letsgorachel

thanks for letting me know the video helped you. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • thanks so much for the video .. and i do have another question . what is the difference bettween knit and purl, i dont see any change or may be doing it wrong, but thanks so much fpor ans ,,,

  • @jc46923

there's a big difference between knit and purl. watch both of my videos How to do the Knit Stitch and How to do the Purl Stitch. Then watch How to do the Stockinette Stitch. Those videos should clear it up for you.

  • Okay, this has been the most helpful video. The only thing I'm confused about is how you knit with the tail. I get that part, but then you say to just cut it. Well, won't it unravel?

  • @PigletOinkable

when you knit with the tail you're basically weaving it in as you go along. after 3 or 4 stitches you can cut if off because it is woven in.

  • Thank you so much Judy! This is the simplest and most understandable video I've watched. :)

  • @jeinnaj

thanks for the nice comment. glad to know the video was helpful to you. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • I like yr videoclips. It is simple, clear and short. A lot of other clips just m..u..m..bl.ed it thru and talk too much, Yr one is very precise. It is highly appreciated!

  • @eastwest3002

thanks for the nice comment. please keep watching. new video on today. look for me on facebook too.

  • question about a few things. should i knot the little tail that i get from the added on colour or can i just snip it? secondly, are both colours suppose to follow up together ((like stay right near the needles or is the old colour suppose to stay where you started the new colour, if that makes sense?))

over all so helpful! i will totally watch more of your videos, they are so straight forward and helpful.

  • @whiteoutittt

once you knit the tail in you have basically woven it in so you can snip it after 3 or more stitches.

your second question I don't understand. please keep watching for more tips and look for me on facebook too.

  • thank you!!

  • @irenemarga

glad the video helped you. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • thanks so much i was trying to figure how to do that ,, u r so great ,,,lol

  • oh my gosh this explains it far better than any book I've tried to read, even my mom has tried showing me how to do it and it just wasn't clicking, but after this I actually get it! thanks for posting this!

  • @SlytherinChild

thanks again. so glad it worked out for you. happy knitting.

  • Thank you Judy for all of your videos. Without them, especially this one, I think I would have given up.

  • @Zwip

thank you for your nice comment. please keep watching. there's lots to learn. happy knitting.

  • I'm not understanding what's going on with the extra stitches on your needle after you added the blue. Wouldn't that change the size of your project?

  • @kelasselstine

When you get to the double stitches from adding the new yarn, you knit them as one so nothing changes. thanks for writing and please keep watching.

  • thank you so much for putting these up, they are by far the easiest and my favourite. i hadn't done any knitting for a year since i was taught and got totally lost, your videos had me right back in the game! now i'm making a huge red (and now with other colours!) scarf for my friend's birthday. thank you! :)

  • @bankexps

thanks for the nice comment. so glad you're knitting again and doing so well with colors. please keep watching. new video on now. look for me on facebook too.

  • Thank you for making it seem so easy. Your directions are quite clear.

  • @gnbx3

Thanks for the note. Glad I was able to help. Please keep watching and look for me on facebook and twitter too.

  • When you knit the second, third, and fourth stitch of the new color you are using essentially 2 pieces of yarn. Doesn't that give you extra stitches? Or do you knit those as if one piece of yarn when you get back to them? It's difficult to see that part....Thank you!

  • @labbarb

you knit thrm sd one unless you WANT to add another stitch. Hope that helps you. Please keep watching. New video on today.

thank you so much. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • @EmpressWing

glad the video helped you. see the new one on youtube today.

  • Hey Judy love your video's, but have a question I am making wash clothes with a design on them, I have no Idea how to make the design a different color is there any way you could show me how to do this? Thank you so much Judy.

  • @ToonieU

it's there. try turning your computer off and on again.

  • I just wanted to say thank sooo much! I just started knitting, haven't purled yet, but i love it so much. I wanted to make a blanket with two colors. Been looking all night trying to find it. All the others i have found i didnt understand. You made it so easy. Thanks so much! Much love to you!

    -Maggie *huggggggs*

  • @kalabrat16

so glad I could help. good luck with your blanket. let me know how it's coming along.

  • She is going too fast. For such a basic lesson... Judy needs to slow way down.

  • @syraqqfan88

sorry I was going too fast for you. Please watch again.

  • YES! I love your videos, they really help me. Thank you so much for doing this. Greatly appreciated. xoxo

  • @vjcy

thank you. please keep watching more videos. new ones coming soon.

  • you know when you changed to purple,if you knitted 5/6 rows, how would you knit with the red again because the string at the back of it wont come up with the rows so how do you bring up the red yarn with it?thats confusing in this video> "how to knit: how to join yarn & change colours in knitting" she shows you how to do it but she knits differently so how do you do it? 1 more question, you know the"tail"of purple yarn left when you change the colour, if you cut that wont the stitches fall out

  • thank you, thank you thank you!

  • @sung1g1rl

you are welcome. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • when i added a different color i just tied the two yarns together it looked horrible but now i'm so excited to try your way!

  • @MELVINMEM

I hope you've tried it and it worked for you. Please keep watching for more videos. Happy knitting.

  • this is amazingly easy! thanks!

  • Thx for your video! i notice the end of the red yarn is not weaved in, only the blue one, so if i want to stop using the red yarn, i just leave it there and weave it in at the end of the products, is that correct? or can I weave with the red end tail, the blue head and the ongoing blue one to weave in all of them?

  • @etalocohc

you don't want to weave a new color into an old one. There is a way to do it and I will make another video on that in the future. Meanwhile, just do it at the end of the project.

    new video on today.

  • Wow thanks for the help with the knitting, I love knitting but I never knew how to add in colours, thankyou so much that will really help!! :D

  • @DaisyMayLifeIsGood

glad I could help. please keep watching.

  • thank you so much! my mother in law taught me how to crochet. half the blanket is single and the rest is double. i have no clue how i did that but im a quick leaner when it comes to hands on. thanks so much for helping me. shes been telling me to keep practing before she taught me how to add a color. but haha i found out by myself! thanks

  • You are fantastic Judy! I took up knitting a while back to help with my depression which it really does help and your videos have taught me so much thank you (:

  • @fooloftheyear

Thank you for writing. I'm so glad to know that my videos are helping you. Please keep watching. There's so much to learn. If you make a mistake don't worry. Practice makes perfect. Happy knitting.

  • Firstly, 5 stars; however, if I might add some constructive feedback: This is done a bit fast and is hard for an idiot like myself to figure out. I was able to get my questions answered from looking through the other comments though. It might be worthwhile to add a text description in the description section to go along with the video (for some reason I had some confusion on the tail, but like i said, makes sense after reading the comments and the video makes a lot more sense to me).

  • @endezeit

Thanks for the note and glad it worked out for you. Sorry if I went too fast. It's always hard for me to slow down, but I'll try on my future videos. Please keep watching. There's lots of learn.

  • wow this just looks so easy ^^

So im trying to knit me a pair of norwegian mitten 'look-a-like' , and it has a lot of color switching to make a pattern. Do you use the same method to create the pattern?

  • @lovegames007

how are you doing on your project. watch my fair isle video. it should help with color changes too.

  • Thanks for another great video Judy :)

  • @afecay

    thanks for the nice note.

  • This video goes WAY too fast.

  • I am making a blanket in garter stitch. How to I get rid of the bumps on the WS of my knitting. I want both sides to look the same.

    Lina

  • it;s impossible. don't worry about it though. it'll look just fine either way as long as you weave in the ends really well and don't have any strings hanging on.

  • This is the only video that has made sense in changing colors.

    Thank you

  • glad to hear it helped you out. please keep watching.

  • thank you for this video Judy! I always wondered why there was a hole when i added color but now i know thanks!

  • i am making a scarf and i have noticed you need around two yarn balls to make a full length scarf. once i use one yarn ball do i do the same thing in this video to add the next yarn ball? do i then cut off the remaining string hanging off?

  • yes, add the new yarn knitting the first 3 or 4 stitches with it including the tail so you knit it in. then you can cut if off.

  • Hi Judy love your videos! If one is doing a striped hat with circulars and use this technique, does this also create a jogless stitch?

  • no, there will be a little jog. this never bothers me, but I will be doing a video on jogless stripes. please keep watching. thanks for the comment.

  • for the tail of the red yarn, what do we do with it ?? just cut off ???

  • NEVER cut, unless you have woven it in. See my video on how to weave in ends.

  • Hi Judy I have learned alot from your videos but didn't know that i wasnt supposed to cut of when done with a color. is the scarf im knitting going to unravel should i discard it and just start a new one. Please help!!!

  • That was a great video. I did not know one can weave the yarn in while knitting. I will try it. thank you so much. =)

  • hope you tried it. it really saves time!

  • judy, if you want to continue the blue string you had, what happens with the left over yarn from the pink string? does it get cut off, or is it tied? it looks kind of gunny handing out there heehee

  • @uruyuuki i agree with you and im totally confused as to what happens to that also.

  • yup yup, and when i look at other videos, i don't see what they do to it either, its quite confusing lol

  • Wow thanks for the extremely well made video Judy! I think it helps so much to have the visual teaching versus text. And your spoken instructions are easy to hear and understand as well! Excellent :)

  • WOW - I knew about the looping the original color over the new color bit (to keep it tight), but I LOVE the fact you weave in the loose end while you make new stitches! Totally gonna use it - thanks :)

  • yes, less work at the end of the project. Enjoy! And keep watching for new videos coming as fast as I can make them.

  • Yours are the best knitting videos! Thanks.

  • Thanks! it was a great help! Fast, swift and simple!

  • When you are first changing colours and you knit the tail into the knitting, doesn't that make extra stitches?

  • yes, but just put the needle through both yarns as if it were just one loops...

  • How can you get rid of that band of old colour? Like that red band you had there in between the blue ones.

BTW, you videos are so useful! ^^

  • thanks judy!!!glad to find ur video here!:D
