  • To speak in favor of a man who masqueraded as the world savior, and whose disciples tortured, murdered and plundered the Jews for thousands of years in the name of christianity is blasphemous and an affront to all of Jewry, especially to those who remained loyal to G-d, and died a tortuous death rather than convert to christianity. If Rabbi Riskin wishes to choose someone to emulate, I suggest he start with Abraham who taught monotheism and showed kindness to all of humanity.

  • If he had just stuck to the comparison of messiah for the jews vs christians I could respect that. But to include Jesus yemach shemo who was a heretic in his time as someone to emulate is in my opinion heresy.

  • Rabi Riskin goes one step to far. To say that Jesus was a rabi is one thing, to consider Jesus "maybe" the Moshiach and the king of the jews is not acceptable. And sure there is no trinity, only one G'd and what is written in Breshit is one of the ways that G'od manifests himself, not a separate entity.

  • @dumboride

The first question that comes in mind is: are you trying to keep the commandments as written in the Torah?

  • @zinpgh There is never spoken in the whole Tenah about a trinity. Gd came to people in several ways. But there have only been 2 parts: Gd in heaven and Gd on earth.

If you mean that the holy ghost is the third, I think you're wrong. Because long before Gd created mankind was the Spirit as written in Breshit: And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Why is it for people so hard to read what is written. And so hard to not to add things they think that are written.

  • @JeanLouisBarrault - not all Christians believe in the Trinity. Some of us believe in the Triune.

Just because the Council of Nicaea took a vote doesn't mean it landed in the right spot.

  • @JeanLouisBarrault - not all Christians believe in the Trinity. Some of us believe in the Triune.

  • Christians are a branch of the Jewish tree in the way that the Italian guy down the street is the father of your Jewish mother's rape-baby.

  • Yes I can see where you had to make another video to explain yourself. people tend to misinterpret what one says. I think you are a brilliant scholar Rabbi. All right thinking people Jew and Christian alike desire peace in the world. This includes all peaceful people no matter what their beliefs are. The Christian and Jew need to quit their bickering which promotes nothing but strife and hatred between what should be the greatest of friendships.

  • THE END OF THE WORLD IS ALMOST HERE!HOLY GOD WILL BRING JUDGMENT DAY ON MAY 21,2011.JESUS IS COMING......

  • @2011iam4god Your a freakin false prophet....

  • What alot of rot, we see through your zionist plan.

  • I dont think Christians realy belive in a true trinity or triad christians just call it that because thats the only way they know know how to describe G-d using a Greek mind set. Most Christians belive in G-d being echad like three piece apple pie is echad.

  • @NatanelYaHu Totally wrong. The Word of God is clear that God expresses Himself in a triune nature with three 3 distinct persons.

  • @suzanof What Christ and Paul taught are only different if you interpret Paul's words through the glasses of the Nicene creed. As long as you aren't burdened with that heresy, there is no conflict.

  • @640kisenough Do you feel in Paul letters in the NT he is kinda "by polar"?

  • @MrIKnowNADA If by "by polar" you mean things are said that are apparent contradictions, this is a common avenue of textual criticism used both on Torah and the NT. I doubt there is a single human being who can go for even a day without saying something that is apparently contradictory to something they said earlier.

But of course there is no contradiction once you understand the perspective of the author. The issue is whether or not people are willing to find out that perspective.

  • It looks like this man was misrepresented. This video seems to make him out as a Jew for Jesus. But according to another video on his channel, he is NOT. He clearly states that a Jew who believes in Jesus ceases to be a Jew, and that is correct.

It is dishonest, and therefore a very grave sin to misrepresent a person in the way that was done to this man. Please see his real channel rshlomoriskin to hear what he really says.

  • This is crap. The difference between Jews and Christians is that to Christians Jesus wasn't just a Rabbi, they believe he was GOD.

There is no way a REAL Jew can believe that Yeshua was God. A REAL JEW could never call that man "Adonai" and daven to him.

Beware of peope lying and posing as phoney Jews.

And please, you Christians, why isn't your faith enough? Why do you have to steal from Judaism to feel legitimate?

  • @wrightla61

NOTE! My comment is directed at the people who misrepresented Rabbi Riskin. Rabbi Riskin is NOT a Jew for Jesus shil. See his real channel rshlomoriskin to find out what this man REALLY believes.

  • Heil Hitler!

  • Rabbi Riskin dear I love you very Jewish and your calls, but if all due respect, please try to find out more about the root words you speak, shame, bless us all.

  • Dear Rabbi Riskin may God of Abraham, Isaak and Yakov Bless you. Yeshua the Messiah or christian Jesus is king of kings and savior of Israel. ( Isaiah 53) Shalom.

  • what telss u that the new testament ???

but its not divine and i can prove it with proofs and facts not beleifs and ideas therefore jesus is non other tthan a regular jew that was rightly charged for his crime

  • With all due respect, Rabbi, I think the most important thing that Jews and Christians share in common is this:

"Love your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your strength."

Rabbi Yeshua (Jesus) taught this to His followers, exactly as in the Torah teaching.

  • Gods Word will not come back -if he is truly looking for truth then he will be convicted sooner or later by what he has sudied about the Bible

  • I look forward to Israel and the rest of Judaism to see this awesome truth..that Jesus Christ is indeed that Messiah which was promised in the Old Testament.

They WILL...cuz it is true..G-d Bless..

  • Friend the temple is destroyed. If not him then who.

In his time the question was? not if he did all things attributed to him.

Things of the messiah but how? I don't think we will be much longer to find out.

  • would that be the 11 month hell, or the hell in the New testament? Noah ate pig, Abraham may have as well,

  • WHAT?? well....you may be right..The Law etc..wasn't given until Moses...

However -Jesus said "It is not the things which go into a man and then come out which defile him..but what is in his heart..( paraphrased )

  • Its edited!

    He didn't really say that!

  • @defiantass

No my ignorant friend, I do not eat swine flesh, God said not to as it is not to be considered food for us. You really do have a mental block don't you? You have indoctrinated really well to HATE all who are see things differently from you. I wonder is you speak the same about the Kabbalistic Rabbis and the mediums and the astrologers in your community - what God calls an abomination to His FACE!

  • @defiantass

The one who is doign avoda zara is you. Everything you have written here is completely against the Torah therefore it is avoda zara. You know not a thing about what is mean to "be Jewish". You are full of hate and bitterness. We are here to stay buddy so i'd get comfortable if i were you! Kol hakavod on the BSD - that really makes you righteous!!

  • @defiantass

Whoever you are , you are a disgrace to the Jewish heritage and an abomination to the God of Israel. Is that what the Torah teaches you to do, curse and demean others? So Rabbi Riskin is good enough to be a Rabbi but as soon as he mentions Yeshua he is an outcast - you are a hypocrite and should be ashamed of yourself! Shame on you!

  • Just to remind you you replied to me first not visa versa, so that fact that you get agitated over something that was not written to you is just something you will have to deal with. So i guess you are refering to the God of Israel as "10 ton rocks" and the Tanach as belonging in the rubbish... you are a good Jew aren't you??!!

  • Comment removed

  • You have now idea what you are talking about. You write BSD at the beginning of your statement and then you spew out words of hate all around you. Hypocrite! There is no love in such words, and that goes against the basic guidline of the Torah - Love God and Love your neighbour. You know neither. I feel sorry for you that you are so embittered!

  • No, you my friend are not Jewish. You are uneducated and have no idea what you are talking about. Yeshua was a Jew from the house of Judah. Why are so against Him? Because of what was done in his name? so Be against God also, because Baruch Goldstien killed in the name of God, and Yigal Amir did also. You are a hypocrite.

  • Another one of those demented "rabbis"...

  • Thank you Rabbi! I don't understand why this video was edited short for a topic such as this, but people have their reasons. I don't expect people to understand the comments Rabbi Shlomo Riskin made but He makes valid points. Thank you Rabbi for allowing my Mishpakah to midrash at your city! Yeshua HaMashiach!

  • Reverend Riskin Is a paid mercenary for the Evangelicals.

He seems to be doing a good Job. Maybe its time he asked foe a raise?

  • As Christians, of course we're aware that Rabbi Riskin does NOT believe Jesus to be the Messiah, that goes without saying. (If he were to believe that, he would be calling himself a Christian).

That part was irrelevant to the purpose for which the poster wished to use it, which I took to be; simply to show that it is possible for a Jew to take a calm rational look at the teachings of Jesus.

  • You are wrong my friend and have it a bit backwards. A Jew who believes in Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah does not become a Christian, he remains a Jew and his "Jewishness" is fulfilled. When gentiles come to know and beleive in the Jewish Messiah, they are grafted into Israel as Paul teaches in Romans 11, and as Yeshua himslef said - "salvation is of the Jews"!

  • @medabrim

If a Jew repents and puts his faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of his sins he then becomes a follower of Christ, does he not? The term Christian means no more than to be a Christ-one or Christ follower. Of course he never ceases to be of Jewish ancestry. I never ceased to be of English ancestry when I converted either.

  • @aredeemed1

Indeed when a Jewish person come to faith in the Jewish Messiah he becomes a follower or the Messiah. Yeshua always was and always will be a Jew. Christ/ian comes from the Greek "Christos" is a direct translation from Hebrew of Messiah (Mashiach) whcih means annointed one. In fact the first beleivers were called "Meshichiem" or Messianics which was translated "Christians".

  • Indeed, according to Romans 11, when a Jew comes to faith in Messiah he is re-attached into his natural olive tree. When a gentile come to faith in Messiah, he/she is grafted in as a wild branch, therfore, when thinking about it, those are are CONverted are the gentiles and those who are REverted are the Jews.. What an amazing God we serve!!

  • @medabrim "re-attached into his natural olive tree" And this is a very good reason why people should find popular Christianity offensive. There is nothing "natural" about a triune god to the Jewish root. In fact, it is the most offensive concept a person could possibly invent.

  • @640kisenough

First of all its not Christianity - faith in the Jewish Messiah of Israel is the as Jewish as it gets. One who rejects the Messiah rejects He who sent Him. Therefore, a Jew who rejects the Messiah rejects the Holy One of Israel. When He comes to faith in Messiah as foretold in th Tanach, He is REconnected or REattached to the olive tree, which represents Adonai, the patriachs, the prophets etc. As stated is Psalm 2: "Kiss the Son.. Blessed are those who put thier trust in Him".

  • @medabrim Thanks for your comment. Just not sure what your point was...

My point is, there is nothing Jewish about a triune god, therefore any system of worship that tries to get people to believe in triune god rather than the Holy ONE of Israel, could never be able to graft in gentiles or reattach Jews.

  • @640kisenough

Spot on! The use of the trinity was simply another symantic tool used by the 'chruch' to further itself away from the Jewish people and the one true God. Although the Almighty does appear in different forms (Spirit, as a man - Yehsua) which is contrary to Jewish belief, the triune god as portrayed by the church is rooted more in philosiphical and Greek mindsets rather than in the word of God abd the Hebraic mindset.

  • @medabrim Maybe all of you should get to know some Christians. Then you'd know we believe in Trinity as the core of our belief. Since you think the New Testament was created out of thin air, or was penned by some Greek guy writing fiction novels, the point of discussing it with you is moot. But don't try to tell us what we believe, because on that you and NatanelYaHu are factually wrong.

  • @JeanLouisBarrault I just happen to know a few. The word 'trinity' appears no where in the scriptures, and sadly this concept was thought up in the middle ages by Church Fathers and has become a major stumbling block for the Jewish people ever since. This is not to say that there is not One God (the God of Israel), who is a spirit, who takes bodily form through Yehsua the Messiah or as the Holy Spirit, but the term itself is problematic, esp with philosphical explanations behind it.. cont..

  • that were thought up by latin theologians/philosophers. Remember, the NT was written by Torah observant Jews (Yehsua's disciples and the Rabbi Paul) from the 2nd temple period, not 5th century monks in Rome. The NT needs to be read through the filter of the Tanach, not visa versa. Even the 'Shema' implies God in 3 forms "Hear O Israel the (1) Lord our (2) God the (3) Lord is ONE (united). The problem is not with such a fact of God's nature but rather with the formal discription and naming.

  • @640kisenough You are an idiot.

  • There is nothing wrong about what R. Riskin said in this video. People who object are overly emotional, failing to analyze what Jesus actually said in the NT, and failing to understand that Riskin is talking from the perspective of someone who has actually studied what Jesus said.

  • According to articles in Ha'aretz and other places, this video was edited to give a false impression of his message. In particular he emphasized that Jews can never accept Jesus as their Messiah. It is too bad that an edited video can be circulated without the persons consent.

  • how Jes... can be called a rabbi when the gemara tells us that he was rejected by his rabbi because of his behaviour and once rejected he went to "avoda zara"?

  • The makers of the video SPLICED OUT Rabbi Riskin's comment that Jews do not accept jesus as the messiah. This is blantant deception. Missionaries use deception because they don't have the truth. Anyone who posted against Rabbi Riskin needs to read his statement he made about this; and they must remove their posts which are motzei shem rah (slander.)

  • At no point did I suggest he is a Christian. Those posters who have obviously are lying and they know they are lying.

But his statement is nonetheless problematic and a violation of the teachings of the Rav who prohibited any sort of inter-religious work to avoid the problems this speech gave

  • Comment removed

  • I'd like to challenge all those who have resorted to curses and name calling to be specific in dealing with the content of the video and address what is false. And I don't mean just saying that certain respected people that are no longer here thought different. Lets be honest. It was not by accident the Temple was destroyed twice on the same day. It was not for no reason we were in exile for 2000 years. Are we different than before? Have we learned how to love and respect one another?

  • by the way! SELF APPOINTED CHIEF RABBI! not worthy to be a rabbi, forget about chief rabbi!

  • @tayebny3 - Rabbi Riskin really IS the Chief Rabbi of Efrat, a small community south of Jerusalem. He does not make any claim to be Chief Rabbi of Israel. I find it interesting that you comment on his title, but not on his views! When you meet him in person you will find him to be a sincere and gifted teacher. A genuinely kind-hearted, warm and friendly person. Intellectually and academically gifted who would welcome any sensible comments from you. Definitely worthy of the title Rabbi.

  • APIKOROS.

  • It is cear from this video clip, and other statements from this SO CALLED "RABBI", that he is anti Torah and might really be a christian at heart. Obviously he does not conform with the idealisms of our great Rabbis of the past. i feal bad for this guy and hope that one day, before it is too late, he wakes up and sees how he was lead astray and returns to Hashem and His Torah.

  • The horrors perpetrated on Jews in the name of Jesus are innumerable and immeasurable. But it remains a mystery, why it is so difficult to realize that if a mouse lived in a cookie jar it would not make it a cookie. The teachings, and more over the life, of Jesus is very much at odds with so many claiming relationship to him. What did he, Jesus, Yeshua, himself ever do to be so hated by so many Jews?? Something is just not right about this.

  • This is Rabbi Riskin looking for dollars from Christians.

  • You Mr. "Rabbi" are no Rabbi. Its obvious that you lack in learning as well as intelligence. You are a real disgrace and embarrassment to Judaism, orthodoxy and to yourself. You over blown senses of self has lead you astray.

  • If you are Jewish then I suggest you get in contact with your local Orthodox shul to learn what true Torah Judaism has to teach you. As one who did study at Rav Riskin's yeshiva I can say he would want you to do that

  • Also, for those who missed the reference, the "root and branch" analogy is from Paul in Romans 11 (learned that from Google), where Paul insists that the Jews are still the chosen people. But many Christian theologians have interpreted this to support supersessionism, so I would stay away from it.

  • FWIW, Paul's analogy in Romans 11 is drawing from the tradition R. Eliezer brings in b.Yevamos 63a.

  • +++Brave Reai Jewish Rabbi+++

Don`t worry from the orthodox jewish church

  • Rabbi, I bless God for your insights! Please make more videos discussing Rabbi Jesus and his contributions to Judaism. You must have learned much while sitting at the feet of Dr. Flusser! Please share your insights! Thanks!

  • Why do the Jews not talk about such things? Why forbid talking about truth?

The answer to your question "first or second coming"? Your holy scriptures answer this in Zechariah "And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn."

  • Rabbi Riskin would in no way agree with your becoming an idolater and worshipping Jesus.

  • This that´s a contradiction in christianity, even himself as a jewish rabbi says that : "John 4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

    Well said Rabbi!

  • Rabbi Riskin made a statement to clarify what he ACTUALLY said in the interview, but was spliced out.

  • B"H - Besides, his use of the expression "root and branch" is totally inapropriate. Judaism IS the whole plant and adding branches to our Torah is prohibited.. And he calls himself an "orthodox rabbi"! Ha! I guess it is difficult to get more assimilated than that.

  • B"H - Disgusted. Rabbi Riskin spit into the face of the Jews by disregarding our 2000 years suffering under xtian persecution. The Rambam told us not to talk to them, not to even think about them. Ariel Ben Yochanan - Tapuah, Israel

  • Wrong the Rambam did talk about Christianity himself calling Christianity and Islam great mistakes that did do something good when they brought the idea of monotheism and moshiach to the world albeit in a mistaken way. In his manner Rav Riskin was trying to do this but I think he did so in a mistaken way

  • This is a bold move on Rabbi Riskin's part to talk about these subject matters in such a public forum. Kol Hakavod! It is about time the Orthodox Jewish movement steps out from their insular world and talk with others. I am sure Rabbi Riskin will be getting a lot of heat, but at least he has the courage to begin dialogue with the Christian world.

I know he opened a center on Jewish-Christian relations two years. It is nice to know that he is still continuing this sacred work.

  • Careful with his words, take what is good and disregard what is bad. NO MINGLEING!!! Sacred Hebrew King Yahoshua NOTHING has to do with the distorted idol created by Rome, Jesus Christ.

  • Christianity is a pagan religion!... Yehoshua haMasshiach es NOT the greek Jristos of paragan Rome...

The crhistian pagan jesus (which do not exist cuz is a mithological god) is said that abolished Torah...

Be careful with sincretism cuz is a sin as well!

  • Rabbi Riskin is wrong. There is very little shared ideology in the Jewish and Christian belief is messianism. Christian messianism sees their messiah as a man god while the Jewish idea of Moshiach is an earthly human king.

I understand his desire to find shared roots with our christian friends and allies but he should follow the Rav's psak and avoid inter religious discussions which in this case only dilute the true Jewish message.

  • I think i understood the commentary.

Most of christian don´t understand what Jesus explained, because they don´t know about jewish tradition.

Jesus said the Sh´ma! (mark 12:29) and as a jewish rabbi he taught full commitment to the Torah (mathew 5:17).

Jesus can´t be God, HaShem is One and His Name is One (Baruj Hu Ubaruj Shemó!), but this is not in discussion, maybe we all first need to understand that he was a jewish rabbi (even maybe a pharisee one, hehe).

    Shalom!

  • He was really more of a reform Rabbi because the Christian religious texts made it clear while he mouthed words of accepting the Torah he actually rejected the halacha.

  • yeap, was kind a mixture of rabbi Hillel and rabbi Shamai, but really good interpretations of the Torah. I really like this one: "Luke 20: 37But in the account of the bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord 'the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'[c] 38He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive." BARUJ HASHEM!!!!!! OD AVINU HAIM!!!!!!!

  • on the contrary, He said the scribes and the Pharisees sit in the seat of Moshe; 'whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do...'

    Mattiyahu Levi/Matthew 23:2-3
