well mabye i don't know all its features but to me it looks just like any other helmet cam out on the market for example what about the v.i.o POV helmet cam (retail around $600) what sets it so far apart that i would be willing to spend an extra 2 grand?
and don't get me wrong im not trying to put down the product im just trying to learn more about it
Looks great. This may just be my next cam for extreme bike riding.
Do you have a footage of how the cam does at night?
I mainly bike at night and would like to record HD footage at low light. I would use my Canon XHA1, but that would kinda crazy on top of my helmet. LOL
For now I use a Viosport H20 helmet cam which is pretty good, but I want to step up my helmet cam on to HD to make better videos for viewers.
By the way, I don't mind paying for a camera like this if its good at night.
Thanks for your test footage. I am considering buying a HXR-MC1. In your video you mention using a wide-angle lens. Your video says a .03 high resolution lens, whatever that is. I've seen online only a 1.7x and a 0.7x wide-angle lens adapter sold for the HXR-MC1. Where can I get your lens, and is it better than the ones I have mentioned? I am making a POV film that is trying to accurately emulate human eyesight (mine) by mounting the camera on a helmet. Jesus bless you!
I have been looking for an HD helmet cam for whitewater kayaking - it's almost perfect except that there is no housing and it is not waterproof :( Too bad it's almost three grand, would still love to own one.
I said that the consumer HD camera was too heavy for helmet not the HXR. We've not tried sky diving but looping windsurfers and freeskiers is probably as big a test.and that's fine apart from waterproofing problem.
Your right about You tube and that's also the point I was making about the compression - to reiterate it's a first class option, best available solution we've found yet.
Tested this alongside broadcast P700SX HD. Great for action footage stands up well, Picture quality is same as small HD consumer camera but bubble wrap idea (storiestold)is non starter because camera too heavy for helmet & can't see monitor.
Easy to waterproof recorder - Aquapack but Sony should have made camera better than splash proof - surely not difficult!
Hey, great video showing off the camera's quality.
I understand that you used it for atv, biking, and skydiving, but would you have any word on how waterproof or shock proof it is?
The images seem very stable, a big plus!
I was holding out for this camera specifically for my paintballing videos and my current ATC3k took some direct hits onto the lens without any problems.
Do you know what the expected release date is? I heard some time in Feb. I would love to get a hold of one of these for my trip to New Zealand in Feb.
is that footage stabilised? (on camera or post)

How do you install the camera on the ATV and on the bike? Is it on the ATV or on your helmet? Thank you!

unfourtinatley you forgot to mention that this little number will set you back $2,700

Retail price wasn't available at the time we tested this beta unit.
For what it does, price is right in line wth competition. Remote viewing doesn't' come cheap.

By the way I think the poor quality of VASSTT footage is due to bad compression our test material was pristine.

Apparently you're not watching it in HD.
This is a problem of Youtube, the HD doesn't readily come up. You have to click for the the HD version.
No...the unit is NOT too heavy for a helmet, as demonstrated in the skydiving footage (apparently you didn't get that far).
Thanks for watching.

Again...even the consumer camera isn't too heavy for helmet cam.
Aerial photography is what we do. We also do chase work with motocross, BMX, endurance horseback. All use standard consumer cameras.
CX100 is the same camera as the HXR-MC1, Saran Wrap works perfectly well in wet environments such as kayaking.
We use EX1, Z7, HC9, CX12, CX7's on camera helmets quite regularly.
We can't comment on windsurfing; we don't do that. The US Ski team uses HD helmet cams; we helped design them.

Looks great. Eager to try it out myself! Thanks for this.

That looks to me to be caused by the wide angle lens they used.

Not impressed. You're better off with a little Sony HDV camera for $900. Put it in some bubblewrap and off you go.
storiestold 2 years ago
Perhaps you don't understand EIS vs OIS, nor resolution, nor bitrate?
You can tell that an HDV cam in bubblewrap would be better by watching YouTube?
Not possible.
We've applied this test, BTW, to several cameras; XDCAM, EX, HDV, AVCHD. We simply chose to post this one on YouTube.
Which HDV camera do you think would beat this cam in this environment?

Spec says its not even splash-proof. No mention of shock/vibration
alexbutler1 3 years ago
It's a solid state media. Shock & vibration wouldn't be an issue.

Exciting possibilities! Very cool.
We can wait for the organ donation though - wear a helmet.
