  • Some of the sounds resemble final fight a little but shoot, that's exactly the kind of stuff gamers like.

  • love the pc engine CD sound.

  • @TheMissingTooth it's okay, believe it or not i got it to work on Magic Engine. You've just gotta select & load the right bios .pce file before you run it. If i remember correctly it was CD-ROM System V2.01 (U).pce or it may have been V2.10. I'm pretty sure it was 2.01 though.

  • I just can not find a working version of this. Tried several versions of it on 2 different PCE emulators. Never had this much trouble with a PCE game, but this one is a real bastard... i wanna play this more than anything else that's on PCE & just my luck it's the one that's giving me the most trouble. Someone PM & help me out please

  • O look its Cody. O wait....

  • gotta love beat em up games.

  • This game looks like a total ripoff of Final Fight, even going so far as to make the main character look exactly like Cody. haha

  • final fight, streets of rage, riot zone. no one saves the girl without blond hair and a white tee.

  • Haha, good point. Don't forget blue jeans.

  • I've expanded the article about this and the game it was recycled from, Riot City.

  • Was anyone able to get this working on Magic Engine v1.13? It just crashed for me.

I had to end up using some other emulator called Ootake, which seems to work just as well. But setting it up for the first time was a bit of a pain in the ass.

  • Do you have Crest of Wolf or the US Riot Zone? I was just wondering cause I have Crest of Wolf and it did crash using the default Magic Card 3.0. I had to use System Card 3.0 which you would need the rom for and subsequently, add the path to that rom in the pce.ini file. Good luck in getting that to work for MagicEngine.

  • Yeah, I just bought this game for 100yen today and tried it in Magic Engine. CRASH! Dammit. I also bought Side Arms Special for the same price and it works fine in Magic Engine.

Unfortunately, my PCE Duo is sitting in storage a few thousand km away so I can't test it on a real system. All I have here is my white PCE with no CD add-on...

  • Music is off the chain!

  • this game was off the shelves,it sucked that much.

  • hahahahaha

  • and LOL at your guys' "airwalk"

  • It was always funny how they odd system left out of the big name game got the second rate ripoff. This is one of the better Final Fight rips though.

  • The police chief looks like Ron Jeremy !

  • LOL! It sounds like Mr. Lee is calling you an A**hole. I love the final boss's music. I used to have this game when it first came out. I regret getting rid of my Duo :(

  • It's nice to find old school games with complete endings.

  • I wish I could see Hawk in MUGEN, because MUGEN needs more Hudson Soft characters.

  • the gameplay is all right (could've used some weapons), but the overall feel of this game is on the borderline of awesome and cheesy,

    Esp. the end scene (42:20-60):

    (babe runs and grabs air)

    Babe: Oh, you saved me!

    Guy: Anything for you, babe.

Bobo: Now I can smile like a moron. *smiles like moron*

Guy: I'm gonna walk towards this door, looking back.

    Paparazzi: *Clickity click*

    All: We won!

    Sorry, Couldn't resist.

  • So beautifully 90's. :')

  • lol at :32, "whear's"

  • I love the good old games

your girl is kidnapped, kick all asses that stand in your way and happy end

simple, but I love it :-)

  • Hey. I just noticed something... this game is a remake of Riot City, an arcade beat-em-up that Sega produced that never got a release outside Japan... I think.

The lifebar and font designs are very similar, and there were a couple stages that looked the same, too.

  • Yes it is the same game only with funnier enemies ;) and kick ass soundtrack.

  • that opening scene hints a gay relationship between those two... "will go down... together"

  • Awesome translation job. "Whear's that warrant you promissed?!"

  • anyone else un-impressed. Didn't this come after Final Fight. It sure might look like Streets of Rage but it looks like it has the feel of Final Fight. Final Fight has not held up well, it was a pretty game that took lots of quarters, a regular Coin-op Whore.

  • Why do beat'um ups main characters have the same generic fashion? They are always wearing those wife beaters shirts, Tight ass jeans, & fingerless gloves.

  • ahh yes the White dude dressing like a greaser look. very fifties. Standard look of tuff. Mohawks and gangstas came way later onto the streets. But who the hell wants to play some Italian greaseball when they can play Blonde Blue eyed and deadly. The Italian or African or female or Dwarf is the second or third choice unless one wants to ignore the gamer majority of tastes.

  • @Maikeru722 The BAD dude fashion circa 1987-1994.

  • Was that a Rising Tackle at 6:16?

  • this ones coming to the Virtual Console on the Wii on monday...

  • The names of the enemies are so damn funny. Lol, pretty boy.

  • The walking animation is awesome too. The whole game looks like a rofflecaust.

  • This game looks pretty good. I don't know why so many people say it sucks.

To me, most beat-'em-ups are about the same gameplay-wise and are more distinguished by aesthetics. This game has some very nice sights and sounds for a Final Fight/SoR-type game in my opinion.

  • Usually the main difference in beat-em-ups is how complex the fighting is. Take the arcade games The Punisher and Alien vs Predator, for instance. Both have pretty interesting and in-depth fighting mechanics, which make them all the better.

Of course, that's not saying arcade games like Turtles in Time or X-Men are bad.

  • Personally I like GBA Guardian Heroes best. That beatem up worked Blocking in and Power ups and Replay value no other beat'em up did(Play as any enemy you fought from the player select screen at the beginning of the adventure). It would be like in TMNT, if after you beat the game, you could choose SHREDDER and a friend could be ROCKSTEADY and fight through the game as them + Power them up!

  • I forgot to mention, this game is basically the Sega arcade game, "Riot City", but everything was changed. Moffstarr has a video of Riot City so search that up.

  • Since Sega published Westone's Wonder Boy and Riot City, they owned the rights to characters and bosses; Westone retained rights to the games themselves. Indeed, Hudson ported the games to other systems under new names...

  • really??? damn how did i miss that!!!

  • It's amazing CD-ROM (now DVD-ROM, HD-DVD-ROM, and BD-ROM) video game technology didn't take off in North America until the release of the original PlayStation. There were some generally good games on the Sega CD and Turbo Duo for what they were worth at the time.

As for this game, Hudson Soft didn't even try to be orignal; it's a direct Final fight ripoff if I ever saw one. Still, I wouldn't mind playing this in the near future via emulator.

  • Turbo what now?

  • I am suprised there are very few brawlers on PC Engine.

  • Hawk is an awful ripoff of Streets pf Rage's Axel and Final Fight's Cody...

  • *of

  • The Genesis owns all when it comes to beat'em ups.

It's got the legendary Streets Of Rage series, the Golden Axe series, and a great port of Final Fight.

I think the TG16 and the SNES are great consoles for platformers like the Castlevania series, but not for beat'em-ups.

  • Correction: the Sega CD had a great port of Final Fight, not Genesis (although Sega CD is a Genesis add-on)...

  • did you play the game with a composite connection? RGB Scart mod is the best for Duo, but not so easy if you live in a country without scart/av TV.

    Props for toneman!

  • the music in this game are good, not all tunes but the level with saxophone is very good.

the game has very bad sprite collision, is possible to hit an enemy standing 1-2cm above... (lol my engrish)

mmm i think is a decent final fight clone, but compared to bare knuckle 2 and others capcom scrolling beat em up is a poor game.

at least is a cheap game, easily find to ebay (10-15$).

  • Man... I need to get a Turbo Duo...
