  • excellent play - very enjoyable game and analysis - well done man...he's a 2000+ and while he made a few mistakes - tough - you capitalised really well

  • so do you recommend the Sicilian for black?

  • @maxsagibgareev - since making this video, I have gone back to the French! But the Sicilian is good - however, like I pointed out, *everyone* knows it. So there is a drawback there - but as with any opening, there are pros and cons. The statistics show that the Sicilian is the best way to meet e4 though. For instance - in the currently ongoing World Championships, every game bar one (which was 1.c4) has been opened with 1.d4, and the reason for this is the Sicilian!

  • Jesus, if you were a teacher, i would've wanted to be your student.

Sometimes I watch your videos and although sometimes I get lost in your translations, i relax extremely well by only listening to you.

God it's such a nice way to spare you i-net time !

Your voice brings pleasure to a great extent.

Needless to say, your chess explanations are beyond well-made and logic is everywhere.

I adore you man, and I adore what you do for beginners like me.

    Greetz from Bulgaria.

  • That's all awesome man - glad you are enjoying the videos; lots more coming soon!

  • dude, just wanted to say that the way in which you present matches, give explainations and compare different pathes/alternatives, has spiked enough interest in me that i've already watched hours of them - eventhough i'm normally not much into chess at all - the last years i mainly played realtime strategy or poker.

Nevertheless, these matches are quite appealing for "the general strategy-gamer", when presented the right way, like you certainly do =)

    thx for the good work!

  • Hi buddy, that's awesome, very happy to hear it! By the way: excellent youtube handle; "wtfBananaDNA" - Lol!

    All the best,

    Sean

  • great game. it must have been a good feeling to beat such a strong player in a tournament setting.

  • Yes man for sure, very satisfying and it also gave me a chance to try and climb up the rankings in the tournament itself! We are resuming in January; hopefully there will be more vids! All the best,

    Sean

  • wow congratulations you beat a gm with black! well played

  • Thanks man! But he wasn't a GM, still strong though!

    Cheers,

    Sean

  • Congratulations for your win against your strongest enemy! So, how long does it take to see you on the world championship?

  • Ha! Next year perhaps? Bet you Magnus is so scared he is unable to go yodelling!! =0)

  • Great game! What is your rating Sean?

  • Thanks. At the moment I don't have one but I should be getting one in January. Hopefully it will be about the same as the guy I played in this vid but I'm not sure it will be cos I had a couple of bad losses. It'll depend how my next dozen or so games go. I play online at chesspark and I usually around 2300 there but the ratings on that site are inflated and I play a fair bit of bullet! All the best,

    Sean

  • Great win man!

  • i like the sac reminds me of some amazing bishop vs rook dragon endings

  • Great achievement to win this one, and very instructive. Even if the exchange sac !? was not objectively the best move, surely it would have unsettled most people. Good comment about B playing e5 in the Sicilian - food for further consideration

  • Exactly, yes, I think it was mostly the psychological effect of the sac that got me an advantage. Once he's ahead in material the onus is on him to prove he can get a better position. Glad you liked the e5 comments - yes, it's very important. Some players, like Bobby Fischer, were fearless and played it almost immediately after Nxd4. But I like to take my time a bit! Thanks again,

    Sean

  • This game illustrates yet again, lower rated players shouldnt be intimidated by their opponents grade, and should play the best move they can see. If your opponent refutes it, you've learnt an important lesson. If he can't refute it, you get a good game. Almost a no lose senario. Kingscrusher just beat a FM simply because he called his pawn sac bluff. Great win Sean, and don't be hard on yourself for the exchange sac, most human players wouldnt have found the correct refutation in a OTB game.

  • Exactly man, I like your thinking and I agree. I watched the KC vs FM game and it was a good one for sure! All the best,

    Sean

  • hey sean why didnt you just move ur black bishop to G5 because you would have won a piece.

  • Hiya - at which move? Thanks!

    Sean

  • oh my bad at 1:19 u could have gotten a fork

  • oh shit never mind the knight lol my bad

  • Sean, great game. Very well played.

I'm glad that you've been posting your games; your personal introspection about the game gives even greater depth to your already insightful analysis.

I'm very impressed by your reflection on the Qe2 move. It shows how much more you value the nuances of the game over simply beating your current opponent.

Keep up the great play; I look forward to watching more of your matches

  • Thanks very much man. Yes you're right there completely; the best games of chess are the ones where you make no mistakes and give your opponent no chances, in my opinion. Hence my desire to refute the Qc7 line! But even if I had found one in later analysis, it wouldn't genuinely count because I didn't find a way over the board. But it was interesting nonetheless, if not flawless! Really glad you are enjoying the vids. More coming soon!

    Sean

  • Nice win Sean, great play.

  • Congrats on this win! Thanks on making such a nice video of it too. I think I'm going to play with the Sicilian now.

  • congrats you bastard :))

  • equal later on

  • Really? Hmmm interesting - do you mind giving the lines Rybka recommends? Are they different to Fritz? Because Fritz couldn't find a certain path to equality after Qc7 and Nd5 from white. Thanks!

  • yep with that bishop b3 move he definitly let you in somewhat and rook sac rybka gives slight edge to white on shalow depth but thinks that you re equal

  • Congratulations!
