I agree 100%. Seles was phenomenal and Graf had met her match. Graf definitely had the talent, but when the Seles stabbing took place. She was on her way to taking over the women's game. Prior to the stabbing she'd won 8 GS. After... only 1.
I wouldn't call Graf overrated but her record would be far different, and infact the shape of the womens game, if Seles had not been stabbed. Graf may have been forced to re-introduce & develop other aspects of her game, like topspin backhand & net play if Seles had remained so dominant and threatening pre-stabbing, as Seles was looking invincible from the baseline.

From 1997 onwards though Graf was almost done with injuries and I dont think Seles on her own would have been able to stop Hingis and Davenport especialy from winning some slams in the late 90s. Seles could have won 8 or more French Opens possibly though. Throughout the whole 90s decade and the 10 French Opens played Graf was her only real threat. Hingis never played her best at the French and Sanchez, Majoli, and Martinez were no threat to Seles.
@grafgirl27 I agree with your analysis. I doubt Monica could have durably won 3 slams per year, but I see no real challenger for her on the French clay even until the late 90s. Sure, Hingis and Davenport would have eventually won their titles on the fast surfaces I guess.
@juju1305 it would have been interesting to see Seles and Hingis play on rebound ace in late 90s as well. That was Seles's best surface and also Hingis's. Though that might not have happened until 1999 anyway as Seles missed 1997 with an "accident" and in 1998 with her father.

Steffi was tough but could never outlast Seles in the 3rd, Monica would have continued to dominate, her skillset was improving and she was confident. Now after, and i love Monica, she was fat and could still stretch Graf to 6-4 in the 3rd meanwhile Graf looked like a racehorse.

Even when Graf was slumping and only #2 in the world she won most of her matches against Seles.
If Graf had played in her 1987-89 form in 1990-92 Seles would have reached #1.
