At the very least he can still be a civil human being to fans. And he openly admits to being wrong. So despite putting out a clunker, he can't be ALL bad.

Worse mistakes have been made. At least he didn't make Atari 2600 E.T. and Pac-Man. Two games so bad they KILLED the entire console industry of the 80s. And FPSs have survived DK just fine.
