Hello, The older horses have their IALHA registration papers because they were micro chipped. The younger horses will have to be DNA tested. We have no photos of the neglect becaust the sheriff would not let the public on the farm. Reports of mares that foaled in the winter months with frozen foals. Only the sheriff and the court really know. The New reporter who is covering this has more info and the web blog that has been set up with all the sale info is there. Hope this helps.....Lisa
Remember horses have been getting hay since the Sheriff dept became involved, so their weight is up in the snow pics. We don't have pics of what they looked like prior (or the dead ones). Reports that fencing down, stallions in with mares. Had both Lusitano and Spanish, may have interbred? along with QH crosses. Farm owner is prohibited from registering horses with the IALHA registry for ?5? years-from 2010 IALHA ruling. I presume due to problem with parentage varification? but don't know.
The pics supposedly from Oct 2010 - after a summer on grass, so horses in obvious good weight at that time. Ones in snow more current? "aledged" not properly fed/watered over this winter. Alegations of owner not providing adequate staff, food, medical care for the horses made by visitors past few years. Older ones had basic handling, used to people (means food) young ones probably have no basic handling skills.
We must remember that there are two sides to every story. I agree that the horses look great in these photos. Since many do not show snow and give credit to another person, I am going to assume they are not current. If it is true that they have 125 horses, I can understand that some will be wild. Wild may not mean afraid of people. It may mean not catchable, handleable or trained in any manner. Some must be trained and enjoy people. Owner should appeal verdict if it is wrong.
Sorry but I don't see one skinny deglected looking horse on the farm or at the auction yard!!! It also says they have not been able to contact Byrdie! Why are they taking the horses?

Plus they don't look "wild" as the photographers are interacting with all of them. Even putting a scarf around one in a picture.
