Best quote in the video....."So what are you?.... Very Hungry" if every one woke up each day with the hunger to succeed, poverty would be eliminated in this world. Btw I'm applying for an internship with IBM any tips? =)
Saw the commercial on "100 yrs of IBM history" on TV just now with this link. If I was a PR guy at a company that sold census machines to Nazi Germany, I think I'd avoid anything related to history, especially somewhere people can comment.
Rich people who start firms pretend to be "wild ducks" but use this to be, in many cases, nothing more than bullies, as was Steve Jobs. The real "wild ducks" are people who speak truth to power within the organization, not rich people and bullies.
BTW Herb Grosch was my friend on Facebook until his death last year.
Within the IBM culture, it was impossible to have a creative idea without the mobilization of envy, hatred and criticism. Weinberg left IBM to form his own structured programming educational firm because of this.
The phrase meant EMPLOYEES who wouldn't conform, not clients. EMPLOYEES like Herb Groschm Fred Haanstra and Bob Bemer who gave you their all and were booted out. Herb Grosch (who died last year) was ejected because he didn't want IBM to support nuclear weapons. Fred Haanstra wanted to evolve the 1401. Bemer was assigned to Algol to sideline him but went on to invent a solution to Y2K which wasn't a problem in part due to his idea.
Now THIS is documenting the current for future generations. And 100 years from now that generation WILL be impressed with how these initiatives helped shape their future. On to the next 100 years, IBM. Go, go go!
Although not the specific intent of this video, but if IBM wants to 'toot it's own horn' for one of it's many impressive success stories, then why not have at least the common decency to acknowledge it? Any negatives that could possibly be inferred have to be from nonsensical jealous individuals, most likely unemployed and almost certainly with an immature, ulterior motive.
Why in the world would someone dislike this video? Wonderful achievements by extraordinary people with the help of a big and successful company. What's wrong in that?
@davefotoHUN Because the actual people involved lived in a micro form of totalitarianism. Prior to Lou Gerstner they received job security and an iron ricebowl for silence and conformity, and after that they received nothing. Their creativity and ideas were taken from them. But at least people like Grosch and Gerald Weinberg had a name: "wild ducks". The video steals their name.
does anyone know names of the people in the video?

They should tell the story of the thousands of US workers they have laid off in the last few years. I would be glad to tell my story!

Another great piece of work from Davis Guggenheim. Would love to see who else worked on this project (credits).

Buen video, hay que mantener el espiritu como un "Wild Ducks". Necesitamos siempre re-inventarnos.
