  • Hey dude, you're boring! I'm an expat of 10 years living in Amsterdam and I can tell you the biggest challenge of all is dealing with the Dutch mentality! something tourists have no idea about. I wouldn't bother praising the place so much if I were you.

  • @sniffypigster The video is for tourists who will spend a weekend or maybe a week in the city. Not for long term ex-pats. I have heard the expression "if you're not Dutch, you don't mean much" said by many non-dutch living or studying in the city. So there is at least that. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • lol, "the drunk, high, prostitutes". haha, thats a funny image but probably pretty common.

  • @calisofresh89 but i dont think anyone thinks of them in a bad way... its like a good "drunk, high, prostitute" you know? :) thanks for watching and commenting and please subscribe!

  • lol-Amsterdam was the only city(till now) i was robbed...

  • Try the STROOPWAFEL its a very nice dutch cookie. Try the FRIKADEL, its not really good but its very nice. Also try dutch PANNENKOEKEN, lookslike pancake but bigger. And dont forget the KROKET, its also meat but better for your health than a frikadel

  • @samajaxamsterdam Sounds like a plan. Thanks for the tips. i really appreciate it and so do the other "viewers" thanks for watching and commenting.

  • @woltersworld

You're welcome, and another hint, be alert of buying drugs on street. The dealers are not really nice. But of course it's a beautiful city, I live in Amsterdam South-East (Zuid-Oost). I think it's really nice for visitors

  • im through with hotels and the hassles of travelling to different cities. it was good the first few times but now i have seen the way forward is staying in ur own local home town area. Everywhere i go just seems the same as any other area of land now and travelling around just creates more hassle with the bother of finding hotels e.t.c. Travelling is actually quite a pain in many ways

  • how do you pay for traveling if your always traveling?

  • @iliveinacubicle Worked in a lot of countries as a professor/lecturer so had a lot of free time. Then would take cheap flights all around. It worked out :)

  • The most worst part of Amsterdam is thieves.Guys BEWARE OF THIEVES in Amsterdam because they are very smart and fast. And don't mess with black guys on the street. Please buy drugs in koffie shop not on streets.Take care of you wallets.

  • Fries in the netherlands aren't French Fries! French Fries are tiny and you can find them at Mac Donalds or Burger king. At the dutch snackbars you can find the good dutch fries! In the southern part of the Netherlands you can also find the Flemish fries!

  • @ReadeRomke awesome :) love it! thanks for the Dutch lesson!

  • Just one more thing about eating in Amsterdam...

If you want to eat in a really good restaurant, you HAVE to get out of the tourist center, just like the video said.

Otherwise find a (Chinese/)Indonesian restaurant. Indonesian food is usually quite good in the Netherlands (it's an ex-colony). Have saté, babi pangang, nasi rames, bami goreng, whatever.

Or else go to an Irish pub for some pub grub. It's not typically Dutch, it's not haute cuisine, but most of the time good and reasonably priced.:)

  • @JaneFokster

glad you are watching the videos. only have seen your first comment so have not seen the others so hopefully you dont hate me by the end :)

Yeah Amsterdam is great fun, and i did feel safe, but i try to find some things for people to note that may make them uncomfortable. and if they know before hand then it wont be a surprise and then they wont be scared so it wont be dangerous... see my train fo thought :) thanks for the great tips on eating in amsterdam too!

  • Hi! I just want to say I'm watching all your love/hate video's right now & I'm really enjoying them. :) The reason I'm posting this comment here is because this one is about de city I was born & raised in.

I guess I agree with you on all points on Amsterdam, except for the "danger' comment. It's true that the drunken/high tourists can be very, very annoying (tnx for pointing out that it's not the Dutch). But dangerous? Everybody I talk to usually feels very safe in Amsterdam, visitors included.

  • mac donalds = eating well

  • @LCChiefer actually i went on a mcdonalds diet only diet for three months and lost 25 kilos. odd but true. thansk for commenting with absolutiely no point and adding absolutely nothing to the common good. but hey, at least you watched the video and commented and for that i say thank you :)

  • @woltersworld Can you tell me why this video? Lot lot lot of the tourists LOVEE THE Red light district and the smell of cannabis in the city, and me either!

  • @LCChiefer because they both make you feel funny inside ;) in a good way... a veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery good way... naughty, but good :)

  • @woltersworld peace men!

  • @woltersworld well mc donalds isn't that bad, but there are no vitamines and stuff like that in the burgers and fries, so thats why i always feel hungry within 1 hour or so from eating at mc donalds. i love my vegipotatomeats, tastes so much better. but sometimes a cheeseburger is soooooo good! so maybe a mcdiet isn't so bad lol..

  • @LCChiefer. Snackbar is better! Try the frikandel, gehaktbal, kroket or the 'dutch' fries. Mac Donalds serve the tiny french fries. They don't taste good and they don't have mayonnaise! The Dutch eat mayonnaise with their fries.

  • @ReadeRomke hell yeah

  • Too bad you don't seem to like food very much, or don't want to take the effort to find a good restaurant. You see, Amsterdam is riddled with great restaurants, but you need to want to find them. Put a little bit more effort in next time!

  • i love Amsterdam and its my next visit ... next week :D

  • @1msammy awesome! have a great trip. enjoy "everything' they have on offer :)

  • I'm starting to like these videos alot.

  • @seppsters I am a bit like mold... i grow on you ;)

    thanks for watching and commenting!

  • The Dutch people are impossible to hate, they are awesome.

  • he hates, the food, cycles, steep steps, women and drunks hurling abuse at him, who would have guessed it.. LOL he likes chips with mayo thou oh and the view :S, LMAO!!

  • I am going to Amsterdam next month and I thought your video was pretty insightful, I'm glad there are people like you on youtube who arn't scared to make these videos

  • @durtyalex Thank you. I am glad it gave you a few ideas. I make these because I know if I would have known some of these things before I traveled I would have been better prepared and thus would have enjoyed my trips more. Yeah, not everyone is happy with the videos :) I got a "you should die" today because some people do not quite agree with some of my ideas :) but i am glad there are people like you out there that are enjoying them. Have a great trip!

  • @woltersworld thanks! you should just forget the 'you should die' comments they're meaningless! i'm from scotland and going back-packing / travelling, first from amsterdam then to prague then through other eastern european countries, i think you're videos are pretty realistic

  • @durtyalex well i have a top ten eastern europe video and five love and hates for eastern europe video too as well as a couple eastern europe city videos. i am glad you like the videos and find them helpful. i have gotten used to the "you should die" comments. My personal favorite was when someone told me i should have the same fate as sadaam hussein. The internet seems to let everyone be there own little nut job. fyi, i freaking LOVE scotland! My family is from Aberdeen (150-200 years ago-ish)

  • lol s t f u

  • @fiazzco glad i can put a smile on your face :)

have a happy new year and always thanks for watching and commenting!

  • 6. Expensive as hell.

If you're interested in cannabis and the RLD you should visit. If not, visit Germany. I know because I live in The Hague myself.
