  • Nice Montage! Where did you put in? Is it only reachable off-road? Would love to try it; been living in Santa Fe since fall. Did you need a permit?

  • Very nice! Awesome trip and great pics and video. I am a kayaker in Texas but have not done the Rio Grande in the Big Bend area. I have backpacked Big Bend several times. Just curious if you had any encounters with Mexican locals or had any problems with camping? Haven't been down there in a few years and wondered if the towns of Boquillas and Santa Elena have fallen to the same troubles as many of the other towns.

  • Hello and thank you! We met with Dessert Sport in Terlingua and arranged for them to shuttle our car, kayaks and us to the put-in at Talley (3hr-bumpy 4X4 drive + free Cactus pin stripes) and pick us up down river in La linda a few 5 days later. We met a few local Mexican fisherman on day 2 and 3 which were friendly. Exchanged a few words and we were on our way.

  • No problem with camp spots and we stayed on the US side each night. We took our time down here and looked for the best spots we could find. Staying in the canyons is a must do. A few horses in the canyons would near the tent at night and run off. Found side hikes at every site we stayed in. There are a couple of natural hot springs along route which are an awesome treat. Bring water and replenish on day 3 at Rio Grande Village. Email me if you have any other questions. -Pete
