Honda or Kawasaki 250? I like the honda for the fact it has a digital speedo which to me makes it look much better looking and not tatty unlike the ninja's speedo. But in ways, the kawasaki is slightly more powerful and slightly more expensive i believe?
Hope Suzuki and Yamaha throw their hat in the 250 ring. Would also LOVE to see modern 400cc bikes by these companies as well in a modern sport bike look or a cruiser.
@EverythingisFire Yamaha has had the wr250x already available in America for years, fuel injected and with usd forks, likely the torquier than all the bikes in the video.
Thanks for the recommendation. Hmm..I meant that I hope Suzuki and Yamaha bring out 250-400cc sport bikes :) I dig that Yamaha but not super into the dirt bike cross over look. Dumb reason, I know haha.
I took my license on 2 bikes. A Hyosung from 2007 (ish), and a Honda from the 80's. The Honda was actually holding up better. Quality of Hyosung motorcycles is utter crap.
I have a Honda CBR 250 and it is great. It's really everything you need to become a good rider. The Ninja is also a great bike too, I just chose Honda because their reliability is off the charts.
Carbs can be adjusted with a screwdriver. If you want to tune a fuel injected engine you'll need to take it to someone who can tune it. Most likely whoever does your tuning is gonna rape your wallet. I'd rather the carb cause I can tune it in a matter of minutes after the engine is warm.
The ninja dominates... these guys have got it wrong "/ im no expert but the ninja is just.. everything plus more... 7 more hp, looks better, feels and sounds better, plus the hondas look exactly the same as the 125 version which is awkward when people will ask you... people will see ninja and wont give a fuck what CC... they will just know it's a monster,, mini or not
I like the looks of the hyosung. I just like the flat front instead of the bird beak. However, I'll stick with honda. They are amazingly made bikes that last forever.
@retromurdok unless you reach 21 then you can do another exam on a bigger bike i THINK its over 500cc? dont quote me :) then you get an unrestricted license, and in 2013 they are raising the age too 23 until you can get a unrestricted.
What about a milder dual-sport for beginners, such as the yam xt250 or honda crf230? However all 250s (except off-road) have short wheelbases. (e.g. 55"). Won't 58" on somewhat larger bikes be better for beginners?
Hyosung? more like "how long"... till you toss it in the dumpster... you get what you pay for, just the the Ninja, youll thank me for years to come. lol
@JesterNM22 kids avoid carbs! Especially on little 250s, whose pilot jets clog, needle valves leak, etc., and that require idle speed adjusts at stops (unless you wait until a full warm-up - hard to do in cold weather).
can't believe he put the Ninja at 2nd place.....lol....everyone could see even he himself couldn't believe he said it..... wonder how much Honda paid him ..:)
@28spuk the only thing the ninja has that's better than the cbr250r is its top speed. If you're buying a 250, top speed is obviously not what you're worried about.

well my friend you know alot about bikes but have you ever tryed working on a fuel injected bike then a carb bike fuel injected more complecated and more money carb cheap and easy
@msjrules03 I don't have any problem on the highway with mine. People seem to think that because the ninja has a faster top speed then it must be faster in every situation. Believe it or not 0-60, the Honda will win every time. It's peak power is in the low and mid ranges.
@microflex22 it has more torque at lower rpm, this is correct, but it will not win a 0-60, if you are talking about miles per hour!
I am riding a Honda myself, and it is great, but as you can see on hundreds of reviews and youtube video comparisions on youtube, the Kawa Ninja takes one second LESS to do the 0-60, only on the first meters, the Honda wins.
What about the Scooter.com 250cc Bikes ? They have 2 sports bikes priced at $1,900 Bucks. Should i get the bike on scooter.com for $1,900 or the Honda CBR250R for $4,500 ?
@BATMAN24KEVIN Ive owned the ninja 250 since the redo in 2009, assuming youre in the states, get either the kawa OR the honda. youll be fine either way. DO NOT get a $1900 sportbike. For me the most dangerous place is the Highway because i travel on it alot, having a bike that takes a while to get upto speed, just means the people behind me are going to be pissed off, which in turn means im going to be put into a dangerous situation
plus the Honda looks ugly, i'd take Hyosung or Kawa anyday of the week
Now who would have thought that, I like the Honda because its single cylinder and better acceleration but want the Kawasaki cause i'm a fanboy .. What can i say :D
Nothin wrong with carbies, if you get on your power nice and early in the corner you wont even know the difference.
Why do people have to be so picky with their first bike, people there days want something thats too good with all the bells and whistles with ABS and other shit.
Ii have a 1991Kawasaki ZR550 zephyr it weight 200kg wet and through the twisties near my place is absolutely awesome and had thought me so much more then a top of the line learner bike could have.
I've got an '09 Ninja 250, and never once had problems starting in the cold, as far down as 35 to 40 degrees during a Texas Winter, never once had to "fumble with the choke lever", just slam it wide open and let it warm up.
So that complaint is BS as usual from jaded motorcycle writers.
lol... don't know how it is in America but for us in Europe:
Ninja 250r : 33Hp (carburetor)
CBR 250r : 26 Hp (fuel injected) exactly twice the CBR 125R in fact
but: CBR is more practical, almost 1.000euros cheaper, comfy on long trips and in Europe the ninja 250r doesn't have a fuel gauge and for me that sucks.
@MrDarkAbsolute Im from Ireland and have a Ninja 250. It has fuel injection. It doesnt have a fuel gauge but it has a light to tell you when you are getting low.
@KwackAttackNinja Thanks for showing me I was wrong, but I still think the CBR is more practical for everyday use and on long trips. It's my opinion, some may consider the ninja because it seems to deliver more fun to the rider. I plan to test the two some day. It will be more objective.
from the sound of it i feel like the cbr is more of what i need but im worried that ill grow out of it im 19 6'3 195lbs and this will b my first street bike. should i go up to the next class of bike or go ahead and get the cbr?
@WILL7292 I'm between 6'1" and 6'2" and 180lbs and I didn't have any trouble with my Honda Rebel 250 so with these slightly more powerful bikes you'd probably be fine. If you're really paranoid about these not being enough you can jump to something like a Suzuki Gladius (you can probably get a used SV650 for pretty cheap) or another bike in that class. I would very strongly advise you to not go straight to a 600cc supersport bike. I think you'd be fine on the CBR250R.
@WILL7292 250 is ALWAYS a fantastic starting bike, but yes, you, and everyone who rides them, will be tired of them soon after. 6 months to a year later, you'll be searching for a bigger bike.
For you, as long as you RESPECT THE BIKE AND IT'S POWER, you can go for a 600. CBR600F4i, CBR600RR, Ninja 650R, Ninja ZX-6R [Not Suggested as it's more of a supersport bike], Suzuki GSX-R600, etc.
500's are a bit outdated but you could look into Suzuki GS500 or Ninja 500R's [horrible looking bike].
No matter how much anyone respects a 600 bike, Most people should NEVER start on one Get a 250 and learn to ride it. It’s better to have a 250 is your first bike, than the 600 as your first and last bike.
@WILL7292 I think the idea depends on your intended use for your motorcycle when your choose to buy one. Ideally, the 250 is a really nice way to start the sport and ease your way into it, but that doesn't mean you can't start on 600's or any other bike out there. IT'S up to the Rider to control the bike....riding attitude is KEY!! "If you upset your motorcycle, your motorcycle is going to get rid of what's upsetting it.....You (the rider)." Reg Pridmore 3 time AMA superbike Champ.
@kawboyCAFE hello idiot...ever wondered why FI is the so widely spread amongst cars and bikes these days ? Its cause your beloved carb is an old faithful dog but it can hunt no more. Jeez
@bollaholla1 I am 6'0 190, the new ninja should treat you well, I have an 07 which has around 12% less hp. I bought the thing new and I have thrown 12200 miles on it. I did use the bike on a non-stop 24 hour trip to Florida and then again coming back at 9k or so. After enough time with the bike you start to get a good look at it's short comings. I bought mine new for 3k so it was definitely worth it, just be sure to shop around.
(continued from last post) cbr. Plus the weight difference is because of the weight listed for the cbr is dry weight and the weight listed for the ninja is curb weight. Also, the cbr has a fuel capacity of 3.4 gallons to where the ninja has a fuel capacity of 4.8 gallons.
I have to disagree with a few statements in this video. The ninja shouldn't be knocked because it has carbs. FI might be better for performance, but carbs are cheaper to work on. Fuel injectors do clog. Also I don't understand how the ninja can be an inconvenience in daily riding to where the cbr isn't. The ninja has a higher compression ratio than the cbr. It's 11.6:1 on the ninja vs 10.7:1, which means the ninja will reach higher speeds faster. The torque difference is only .9 in favor of the
motorcycle, so for a new sport bike motorcycle rider, what do you reccommend if I am not willing to spend the money on the special equipment that is needed for FI motorcycles? I have been burned by motorcycle repair shops in the past, and want to know what is a good motorcycle to start out for a new sport bike rider. I have ridden cruisers up to 650cc's, but I am new to sport bikes, and which out of those 3 bikes would you reccommend for a new sport bike rider?
The point is with FI you never NEED to work on it. no clogged jets from sitting, etc. press the button and it starts cold or hot. I do work on my own bikes and i can work on carbs but. they are a pain in the ass. gotta get the thing off the bike to make changes rejet, resynch them etc.. with FI.. you hook up the power commander press a few buttons and your done. I have never in my life had a failure with a fuel injected car..never. Just my opinion
Those of you who hate FI are fast becoming the minority. You like carbs because you're just used to working on carbs. Working on FI is just as easy, if not more so. That plus the drive-ability, mpg, and low maintenance make FI superior in every way. I mean, come on.
CBR250r ABS ive had it since the 1st release done 2252kms
changing exhaust this month. its an awesome bike!
this clip says better late than never?
l had a CBR250RR 45hp leaves ninjas in the dust so did my suzuki across 250 GSX-F all l can say is CBR250 welcome back bring in a new age ! ABS you cant go wrong
I'm a noob deciding on my first bike. My dad was an avid biker before he passed away. I remember him talking about how solid Hondas are. Of course he rode cruisers, though.
I personally think the Ninja still beats all beginner bikes, but that's only because I ride one myself. But like I said that's only because I own one. The thing that i thought was hilarious was the carburation. They just kept going back to it and this and that. Lol that was hilarious to me.
and here in the uk i have my ninja 250 r with FI but to be fair it still needs to warm up to get the best proformance and lower engin ware so not much diffrence people dont let it put you off the ninja its amazing!!!!
on the ninja 250r, they dont have the bridgestone road winner tires, they are IRC's... IRC road winner tires,,,the ninja 250r,,nonetheless, the standard when it come's to 250's. NINJA rules.... Let the Good Times Roll!!!
i just bought the 250 ninja. its been 5 days and im bored already. i need a bigger bike! i bought it for the looks, but i heard honda has a better low end torque. im happy with the look but not with the low end torque of the ninja.
I am going to university and i am living with my parents while working just to get a ninja 250r hopefully i will have it by march 2012 so i can than move out in September :P
@gaivoron generally it takes about 2mins depending on the temp but I just let it warm up a bit longer to lube all the internal engine parts. Even if the bike had fuel injection I would wait for a few minutes. I think it would be bad to hit 13K rpms with a relatively dry engine. Just me 2 cents.
@jblades93 It requires a lot more throttle control and learning how to properly break. I started on a 07 Ninja 650r. Which is a step up from the 250r on power, but still not as fast as a modern supersport. I rode it for roughly 10 months and put on a little over 9 thousand miles before buying my 010 zx6r special addition. I would recommend starting on the 650R, just be sure to get some gear and take a MSF course.
From where I am the FI version of the ninja is available. How does that compare to the CBR ??

Honda power - 23.7 hp
Kawasaki Power - 26.4 hp
Hyosung Power - 28 hp
Now who would have thought that, I like the Honda because its single cylinder and better acceleration but want the Kawasaki cause i'm a fanboy .. What can i say :D
kingkelv666 6 months ago
Nothin wrong with carbies, if you get on your power nice and early in the corner you wont even know the difference.
Why do people have to be so picky with their first bike, people there days want something thats too good with all the bells and whistles with ABS and other shit.
Ii have a 1991Kawasaki ZR550 zephyr it weight 200kg wet and through the twisties near my place is absolutely awesome and had thought me so much more then a top of the line learner bike could have.
mattpreece5112 6 months ago

Thumbs up for the CBR.
MrDarkAbsolute 7 months ago
@MrDarkAbsolute Im from Ireland and have a Ninja 250. It has fuel injection. It doesnt have a fuel gauge but it has a light to tell you when you are getting low.
KwackAttackNinja 7 months ago
@KwackAttackNinja Thanks for showing me I was wrong, but I still think the CBR is more practical for everyday use and on long trips. It's my opinion, some may consider the ninja because it seems to deliver more fun to the rider. I plan to test the two some day. It will be more objective.

You're saying "Honda CBR is the number 1 in this shootout" but you don't sound reassuring/confident/happy about it :)!
Survi 7 months ago
from the sound of it i feel like the cbr is more of what i need but im worried that ill grow out of it im 19 6'3 195lbs and this will b my first street bike. should i go up to the next class of bike or go ahead and get the cbr?
WILL7292 7 months ago
@WILL7292 I'm between 6'1" and 6'2" and 180lbs and I didn't have any trouble with my Honda Rebel 250 so with these slightly more powerful bikes you'd probably be fine. If you're really paranoid about these not being enough you can jump to something like a Suzuki Gladius (you can probably get a used SV650 for pretty cheap) or another bike in that class. I would very strongly advise you to not go straight to a 600cc supersport bike. I think you'd be fine on the CBR250R.
UCMolosser 7 months ago
IdThat 7 months ago
@IdThat
No matter how much anyone respects a 600 bike, Most people should NEVER start on one Get a 250 and learn to ride it. It’s better to have a 250 is your first bike, than the 600 as your first and last bike.
Silveracity 7 months ago
@WILL7292 I think the idea depends on your intended use for your motorcycle when your choose to buy one. Ideally, the 250 is a really nice way to start the sport and ease your way into it, but that doesn't mean you can't start on 600's or any other bike out there. IT'S up to the Rider to control the bike....riding attitude is KEY!! "If you upset your motorcycle, your motorcycle is going to get rid of what's upsetting it.....You (the rider)." bollaholla1 7 months ago

LifeInDecibel 7 months ago
I have to disagree with a few statements in this video. The ninja shouldn't be knocked because it has carbs. FI might be better for performance, but carbs are cheaper to work on. Fuel injectors do clog. Also I don't understand how the ninja can be an inconvenience in daily riding to where the cbr isn't. The ninja has a higher compression ratio than the cbr. It's 11.6:1 on the ninja vs 10.7:1, which means the ninja will reach higher speeds faster. The torque difference is only .9 in favor of the
LifeInDecibel 7 months ago
motorcycle, so for a new sport bike motorcycle rider, what do you reccommend if I am not willing to spend the money on the special equipment that is needed for FI motorcycles? I have been burned by motorcycle repair shops in the past, and want to know what is a good motorcycle to start out for a new sport bike rider. I have ridden cruisers up to 650cc's, but I am new to sport bikes, and which out of those 3 bikes would you reccommend for a new sport bike rider?
renegadebiker24 8 months ago
@kawboyCAFE
Just my opinion
kens97sto171 8 months ago
I love the drive-by comments like "Honda sucks", "Kawasaki rapes" with no qualifying statements whatsoever.
Mattwood440 8 months ago
@kawboyCAFE
Those of you who hate FI are fast becoming the minority. You like carbs because you're just used to working on carbs. Working on FI is just as easy, if not more so. That plus the drive-ability, mpg, and low maintenance make FI superior in every way. I mean, come on.

You could also use some music for your cuts to the bikes on the road. Hit me up for music!

I personally think the Ninja still beats all beginner bikes, but that's only because I ride one myself. But like I said that's only because I own one. The thing that i thought was hilarious was the carburation. They just kept going back to it and this and that. Lol that was hilarious to me.

@Malfoysucks really? you have to wait 4 min to warm up? or you can harm the engine if you just go
gaivoron 9 months ago
