  • Just started on keyboard for fun, and you're video has captured me.Great teaching.Do i have to get a full size keyboard now or can the smaller version work for now?

  • @burooo Small or large size will not matter for learning. You will be able to play both. Thanks.

  • this tutorial is the best i've seen.

Mr. Tom Willett teaches way better than all my music teachers

    thanxx a lot :)

  • @nobbyuttam Thank you.

  • blue moon, oh donna, all i have to do is dream, earth angle, you mean they used the same chords? I'm not sure, if some of them used the same chord progression is that stealing?

  • @Jacno77 Chords are ingredients in songs. You can use flour and sugar and make a cake or a pie but they are different recipes. Each chef and each singer or musician uses the ingredients for different results. Thanks.

  • @Featureman oh ok thanks, watched 3 of your videos, its easier now that i understand the use of chords when it comes to writing music

  • this opened the piano up more to me now than my lessons did years ago

  • @eslubin Thank you.

  • thank you ! .. but god it is difficult to play piano

  • Thank you for your help,i have been wanting to teach my children piano and found your tutorials really helpfull.X

  • @mygirl34579 Thank you for the nice comment.

  • C a minor f* G :D

  • @MAVROro That is it. Thanks.

  • Thanks... awesome lesson :)

  • that was very useful i can't believe I can do this now :) ... thanks a lot :)

my problem now is that my hands can't work separately , if i want to play a note twice and the chord once , my left hand plays the chord twice also no matter how hard i try to stop it lol ... is there any way to fix this !?

  • @mohammadhassan1990 Your hands will work separately. It just takes time and practice. If you can tie your shoes or shift hears and steer, your hands work separately. It just takes time. Your mind will know what to do then your hands learn later. Thanks.

  • I've just started to learn to play keyboard. You are a GREAT TEACHER!!! I just viewed your first two tutorials. I just need a clarification on which fingers to use for each chord. Is there any standard technique? Thank you very much.!!!

  • @ytuserify Use any fingers you want. I encourage you to concentrate on remembering which keys make up each chord and play them any way you feel works for you. I never play anything the same way twice. Thanks.

  • Very useful tutorials, Thank you!

  • @SuperErin21 You are welcome. Thanks.

  • @yoshisuniverse Thank you so much.

  • I agree. I had a great time listening to the music. Very clear and simple, thanks a lot.

  • @russman113 Thank you.

  • Its haard :( ! haha am I the only one having a hard time learning this ? :O

  • @armyyyg Practice playing a chord and removing your fingers and then again and again for an hour a day. It will gradually become faster and faster. Thanks.

  • thank you so much sir! :) i cannot appreciate enough. i love the way you teach. it is so clear, fun, and enjoyable!!!

  • @smushhh You are very welcome. Thanks.

  • is it a chord if u play one note at a time? like A then C then E?

  • @riosctr96 As long as the tones overlap it is a chord.

  • @Featureman if i wanna kno a couple of notes, so i kinda get the idea oh this sounds good with this, how long should i pratice??? me and my bud wanna make simple music beats if u kno what i mean, like i really dnt need to b pro at this so how long and much should i pratice and what should i pratice

  • @riosctr96 Watch any of the videos and practice some of the chords for an hour. Change from one chord to another. It is changing from one chord to another that takes time. Practice longer than an hour if you are having fun. Thanks. In a month or two you should be able to make a beat.

  • @Featureman alright sweet month or 2 isnt bad at all:D thanks alot:)

  • awesome mate thanks youve been a massive help :)

  • Best tutorial ever, thank you for taking time in making this videos! This will sure help a lot of beginners like me!

  • @fcangco Thank you for the wonderful comment.

  • Is that a full weight key board? if so what brand and model is it :D

  • @BG4123 It is an M-Audio Keystation 88es. It is just a controller. It has no sound of its own. It is not fully weighted. Thanks.

  • What is the least expensive Yamaha you can buy and still get that nice piano sound without super heavy keys? And where is good place to purchase one?

  • @dianne768 Amazon has some Yamaha 61 key keyboards for under $100 and under $200. I would suggest reading the reviews there before buying or if you are near a music store go check out the instrument in person. Some of the keyboards might be on sale if they are discontinued. The cost is much less now than a few years ago. Yamaha is considered to have the best sound. Amazon usually has free shipping on items over $25. Thanks.

  • thanks Tom..iv just been given a yamaha electronic keyboard in part payment for a debt and I dont have a clue how to play it, your lessons are just what I need...all the best Boshy

  • @Boshyworld Thanks, Boshy. Yamaha keyboards have a great piano sound. Enjoy your music as you learn.

  • I wish you could teach how to play"ChariotsOf Fire"

  • @jeniferex Thanks. Someday YouTube and other video sites might allow copyright songs and material but it is illegal for now.

  • Respect for you

  • @WindowsKingza Thanks.

  • @deniz678 Thank you.

  • i think you messed up on the G chord..it was GBD, not GED..

  • i need ur help so much i can play all the cords but i cant seem to get the rythm that u play at the end. i have been trying for 3 days to get the rythm and i just cant get it. its buggin me coz i really wanna learn lol. ur are a great teacher i cud sit and watch ur videos all day and never get board thank you xx

  • @carolineni619 Thanks. Try playing very slowly and then faster and faster. It takes more than three days to get the fingers to do what you want. Also try just the right hand and let it play one chord for awhile and use different rhythms. Just like drumming your fingers on a table but hit the notes in the chord. You will learn.

  • @Featureman thank you so much i finaly got it and im soooo please :) i was so pleased with myself i ran and got my partner just to make sure i had got it right lol.

thank you so much and im really looking forward to learning from all your videos on here

    take care x

  • Would you put some videos on piano chording to fiddle music. (Celtic music)

Thank You, your site is great.

  • @bigfrankmac1 Thanks.

  • WHAT SETTING DO YOU HAVE YOUR KEY BOARD SET ON EXAMPLE

    PIANO OR ORGAN

AND WHAT KIND IARE YOU PLAYING ON

  • @girlmusic100 It is a piano sound from a Yamaha DJX which is controlled by an M-Audio 88 key controller.

  • Hi Tom

Can you post the chords to play "The"Gift" by Jim Brickman? I''ve never played piano

but I'm going to get a keyboard at the end of the week. Thanks for the lessons

    jeannette

  • @jeniferex The only songs I am able to post at YouTube are originals and public domain songs. I cannot post any published songs due to copyright issues. Thanks.

  • you have a great talent! sharing it to the world is so cool! i wish i can contribute something to world like you do. =)

  • @dalk3254 Thank you so much. I am sure you will be a great contributor to the world. You have the desire and that will be the beginning for you as you share your own special talents.

  • i i am playing in the C Chord do i play the whole song in the same Ceg agrocc the board/

  • @girlmusic100 No. Only the parts of the song that have the C chord are played with the C-E-G notes. A song in the key of C might also have an A Minor amd a G and an F chord or any other chord depending on the song. C-E-G is only for the part of the song that has a C chord. Thanks.

  • thank you so much, you're awesome.

  • @yaronimus1 You are welcome. Thanks.

  • Thanks for your sharing. Really learn a lot for you.

  • @jeanho2002 It is my pleasure. Thank you.

  • awesom instructor... i can get it easily even if i dont have piano.... hehehe...

  • @loret350Z Thanks. I used to practice on a sheet of paper on which I had drawn a keyboard before I bought a piano. I would imagine how it sounded.

  • @Featureman hey me too! i am drawing now! and marking down what you said!! :D thanks for teaching!!

  • VERY EASY TO FALLOW ALONG

  • @tz42 Thanks. Have fun with the music.

  • amazing instructor!!!

  • @sohighmusic Thanks

  • @VolvoXC90Rocks Some songs have very complex chord patterns. Others can be as simple as two chords. There are many songs I would not attempt. I always sing what I enjoy which is usually '50s Rock and Roll. The chord patterns for many songs are nearly identical. Thanks. You also will find sites which show chord patterns for different songs.

  • thanks! i know how to play piano but never knew how to improve, you're helping me a lot!

  • @heberorozco Good. Have fun with the music. Thanks.

  • aw...really sir?...i nver thought how many keys would have a piano...lol...anyways,,,thank you for that so much information sir :)

  • uhmm...so are all the keyboards got 88 keys sir?....

  • @RnBbrowngurl No. Some keyboards have 76 keys and some have 49. The C note on all the keyboards is the note just to the left of two black notes. There are also some very unusual old pianos which have more than 88 keys. Some pianos had more than 90 keys. I have seen them in museums. Thanks.

  • Tom you are a legend, and really helping me learn as I've just bought my keyboard. Thank you very much.

  • @pagady69 Thank you so much for the very kind words.

  • You are a great teacher, thank you for the knowledge. its the greatest gift anyone can give. thanks a lot!

  • @FretMaasteR You are very welcome. Thank you.

  • Thank you sir!! Ive always wanted to learn to play the piano, but didnt have the money for lessons. I have a 49 key keyboard and Im using the sounds from the Abbey Road Keyboards Reason refill. Thanks a bunch Featuerman:)

  • @RelicSoul You are very welcome. You can learn how to play on a 49 key keyboard and what you learn will also apply to an 88 or 76 key piano. Thanks.

  • does ur keyboard got 88 keys sir?....

  • @RnBbrowngurl Yes. The keyboard in this video has 88 keys. Thanks.

  • i liked how this guy said:

your mind will know what you are doing long before your hands figure it out. just keep sending the messages down to your fingers and they'll get it. :)) he is funny!

  • thanks alot FeatureMan, your tutorials increased my music making skills.

  • Great. Thanks.

  • Can you slow down but very good! Thank you you start off slow but then you go very fast.

  • i love this tutorial,

so easy to play but it sounds so good^^

    thank you! subscribed

  • Thank you. You will enjoy making music with chords.

  • I have to say that this is an excellent lesson. I am a guitar player and I am in the process of learning piano from these lessons. My advice to everyone is to learn the music math associated with chords(i.e. R - 3rd - 5th for any major chord) and visualize how it maps to the keyboard. Then it will be very easy to create any chord u want. To learn how to solo u will to develop perfect pitch(i.e. hear a note and then name it). Work with a friend on this exercise and it will save u alot of time.

  • Thank you.

  • when do you talk about minor and major please?

    Ur great!

  • Thanks. I mention the minor chords in most lessons and show how to make lots of different chords in many lessons. I do not devote any one video to the subject of major and minor chords, Anytime I mention an A or B or C or any chord it is a Major chord unless I call it by a different name like Minor or Seventh or Sixth, etc. Thanks again.
