  • Yep, the worst remake of "The Magnificent 7", which was the best remake of "The Seven Samurai"...it's all on the wheel baby, it all goes around.

  • HOLY CRAP DID I SEE THE GUY FROM THE A-TEAM!? :D

  • John Boy's ship looks like it has testicles.

  • I forgot how depressing this film was. Except for John Boy almost the entire cast is killed off.

  • Damn this looks so much better than star wars and new sci fi films

  • Ah, that brings me back. I always considered this film as Starwars's poor cousin. It did have similarities to Starwars, but i don't think it was intentional. It was accidently rubbish.

  • trash

  • Good movie, I think it's about due for a grand theatrical remake!

  • Just for the record, this isn't another Star Wars rip-off. The story is actually a twist on the film The Magnificent Seven or Seven Samurai, James Cameron did the special effects, and James Horner did the music; and, for the budget this film was made with, it's a fun movie!

  • @1rammstein21 Yup, those disparaging it have no idea of the kind of movie it is - that trailer in trying to rip Star Wars (like every other sci-fi trailer at the time did) ends up hiding the wonderful grimness of the real film. It was one of my childhood favorites.

  • Great movie, but I always thought John Boy's ship looked like a pair of bollocks.

  • @peloquin1979 ...It's actually supposed to look like the body of a woman. Those aren't "balls" in front.

  • It may not be Star Wars, and the main character's spaceship looks like it has huge testicles, but at least someone had the balls to go out there and try.

  • i dont get it ..

do they have only one song /?

and what is this vevo ?! :/

  • A big boobed spaceship and untalented acting by unknown's and John boy"great"I remember this crap and it wasn't entertaining then and now it's just a comedy or is it?

  • @blitzspeer i seen that ship in some other movie, but with a green alien sporting a purple scarf!

  • Proof that Roger Corman can do space opera if he really wanted too

  • Comment removed

  • i can't wait till this comes out!

  • I love it when a plan comes together.

  • I'm really not comparing this movie to any crap or goodies of today but ...well, with this trailer the movie seems to suck a bit ...too much classics remade by the years that ruined it all maybe. Even though they are possibly original hehehe.

  • I love how these old trailers show major characters getting blown up!

  • BBTS is to be released July 12th on both Blue Ray and DVD. I've always liked this film. I saw it the summer of 1980 at the drive-in along with the special edition of Close Encounters. I'm glad BBTS is now a cult classic. The theme song is a classic as well.

  • @NamathTheLegend The soundtrack was composed by James Horner, who also did a number of Star Trek films. You can hear the similarities between this score and what he composed for Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. Very similar - and excellent - space adventure music!

  • that shit sucks

  • Almost as good as "watching my dog pee in my backyard" .

  • Wow! Looks like a multi-million dollar heap of dog sh*t. How much loot did they blow making this turd? and now it's on blu ray! Can't wait to spend my hard earned money on something else instead...like another toothbrush, or 10 tablets of white paper, or 4 wooden backscratchers, or a toilet seat warmer, or a box of shower caps, or some reading glasses for when I get old, or a bag of marbles, or a coin roller for my dimes.

  • @onlymakebelievemusic idiot cunt face

  • Bad synchronization.

  • Awesome, I just added this to my Blockbuster Online que, I can't wait to watch it.

  • Robert Vaughan AND John Saxon!!!

  • This was okay but it wasn't as good as "Battle of the Network Stars."

  • I thought this was OK when I say it on TV as a kid ! I know can see it was total crap compared to other films and George Lucas should have sued. Total rip off.

  • @PhilJay06 This is not a star wars ripoff. It was actually inspired by "The Magnificent Seven" witch was a ripoff of

     Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai".

  • I thought this was OK when I say it on TV as a kid ! I know can see it was total crap compared to other films and George Lucas should have sued. Total rip off.

  • this movie paid the rent!

  • George Peppard, John Saxon, John Boy, Aliens eating hotdogs...how could this NOT be a major hit????

  • @prospectus91 So funny that everyone who has seen that remember it for exactly those same reasons.

  • 1:43 That "Fuck Yea" face of Robert Vaughn was priceless.

"I was born in space, and I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am." :)

  • Good news for everyone who wants to see this flick again... Shout Factory will be releasing it on DVD and BluRay in July of 2011. Woot!

  • From Walton Mountain to Outer Space, lol, go John Boy, go!!!!!!

  • My sister hates this film. I told her to fuck off :D

  • Way better then Star Wars

  • akria

  • at pause at 2:05 lol i had thoughs 2 little orb things when i was a little kid... wow.... futuristic

  • Can they show that topless spaceship on youtube? That's illegal in 28 states.

    yee-ouch!

  • I actually thought John Boy's ship looked more like a giant scrote

  • @sc813 except scrote don't have nips on 'em.

  • i remember this shit....john boy's spaceship had a wazzo set of 80's banger's on it

  • although this is a rip off of star wars, i think george lucas has seen this.

at 2:19, the ship looks like a clone trooper carrier (or whatever their called). i have a feeling George ripped off some of the ships here for the prequals.

  • The Stellar Converter; I wonder if that's where they got the idea for the Death Star's main weapon?

  • A very entertaining Magnificent Seven rip off.

It even has Robert Vaughn reprising his original role.

  • @duckgeezer Which was a Seventh Samarai rip off.

  • classic fun film. The best of the Star Wars rip offs.

  • You gotta love a spaceship shaped like a woman's body. I think it had a woman's voice and personality too.

  • not seen this since i was at school, 18 years+. that spaceship had a massive pair of jugs on it for some reason.

  • How much like star wars can we make a movie without it actually being called "star wars"? We needs worlds like War and Star? hmm...star battle....no! too close....

  • Loved this movie to death. Corman reused all the space combat scenes in Space Raiders, too..

  • Loved this movie growing up. Thanks

  • Oh my god this movie is awesome!!!

  • Makes AVATAR look like a grade school puppet show

  • Magnificent Seven in space

  • I'm going to go watch this right now.

  • i loved this movie

  • am I right in thinking theres a bit in this were the aliens try to eat a woman?

  • Anyone looking to watch the movie it's on my channel not in parts but complete

  • Dude from the A-Team, Dude from nightmare on elm street, Robert Vaughan, spaceship shaped like the ovaries and vagina..... and James Cameron on special effects................. its gold I tells ya!

  • Is that the "Blockade Runner" bridge at the beginning?

  • @flyingfisbeefilms

    LOL!!!

This was one of the best Star Wars rip-offs.

  • @flyingfisbeefilms And the rear of a Stardestroyer!

  • aora se de donde viene star wars ellos copiaron a estos

  • Anyone remember the two hot blondes? "The Two Bettys", I think they were called. The only reason to watch this movie.

  • Law of One:

23.19 Questioner: This may be a dumb question. There is a movie called “Battle Beyond the Stars.” I don’t know if you are familiar with it or not. I guess you are. It just seemed to have what you are telling us included in the script. Is this correct?

Ra: I am Ra. This particular creation of your entities had some distortions of the Law of One and its scenario upon your physical plane. This is correct.

  • His ship looked like it had breast. LOL When I was a kid I couldn't figure out why they made it like that. Still can't.

  • My Family noticed that as well!! I was a kid and I didn't really understand what the fuss was about! =D I also remember one of the ships had an annoying strobe light in it! Ahhh the 80's!

  • long out of print, I found this for sale on Roger Corman's website. newhorizonspicture (dot) com.

  • @fmunk

    LOL, excellent.

I found a recorded copy in a big metal bin in a 2nd hand shop. It was full of tapes recorded off the TV, I looked through and there it was.

I came home, copied it to DVD, rewound the tape then.......snap.........the tape broke.

Thank god the recording came out fine.

  • did'nt that ship have boobs on the helm

  • only sample they did not rip was the iconic doom 1 whoooosh. Everything else made it in.

  • that looks really shit !!

  • Now playing at a fine drive in near you!

  • Have trouble hearing GOd? Try dialing into CLAUDE.calm.

I think that they are bros not hoes.

  • really stinks that i had to be born in the near middle of that decade, never got to know how awesome the 80's must have been.

  • Sweet! Films were FUN back then, done to ENTERTAIN, not fill some merchandising execs pockets!

    "We call it a Hot-Dog"

*chews* "There's no dog in this..."

    Classic

  • @wasp27 you are very wrong about that. you think maybe nostalgia might be affecting your views on this movie just a bit??

  • @al28283 Maybe, but who cares?

  • @wasp27 actually to some extent studio interference is less nowadays than back in the golden age of hollywood

  • @wasp27 Most films, especially those in the sci-fi and horror genre, had some element of fun to them which made you want to rewatch the films. After the year 2000, when they felt they had CGI perfected (which they TOTALLY don't), suddenly they could put anything they wanted on the screen and they got rid of all the fun. Watch this movie and then watch a turd like 'Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' and tell me which one you're likely to watch over again.

  • @russianimp1 The CGI in Jurassic Park was very well done...however, crap like "Sky Captain..." was just dire. I still wanna see "Rise..." (being a fan of the originals), but too many films are waayy too CG heavy-too much CG, not enough story. Ok films like Transformers NEED to be CG heavy BUT there is a line. I love films that still use minature models, like Starship Troopers 1 and Star Trek, and Ray Harryhausen's stuff will ALWAYS be classic!

  • @wasp27 You think Corman didn't make movies for money ???? Corman ? Really ?

  • @wasp27 somehow I doubt that! The not-filling-pockets-part.

  • God damn that shit looks so cash

  • God I used to watch some shit when I was a kid.

  • does anyone remember a film or tv series that some guys had weapons that looked like umbrellas ?

  • it was ok 1

  • yea, this was a failed remake of the movie "the seven samurai" which was also remade into "the magnificent seven", i can't believe James Cameron apparently directed the special effects in this film...

  • STAR WARS RIP OFF!

  • Whoever posted this.....zero chicks.

  • This movie won "Best Picture" when it came out in 1980.John-Boy is such a stud.

  • oscar anyone?

  • John Boy Walton, Napolean Solo, Hannibal Smith, Roper and Sybil Danning's cleavage in movie about space cowboys.

  • "night John boy"

  • " I love it when a plan comes together. "

They practically showed the ending in the trailer. I dont wanna see who dies in the trailer!! I liked the bright white dudes. I didnt want them to die. And Vaughn's character was cool. The main dude's spaceship was rubbish but I seem to remember that it talked. I wanna see this again now.

  • Just noting that Robert Vaughn was in both "The Magnificent 7" and "Battle Beyond The Stars". He essentially played the same character, whom died in both.

  • Wannabe Star Wars

  • What do you get when you take seven samurai and cross it with star wars? It's not pretty. And yet I do remember it fondly. Although the only thing I remember is the bondage part where the reptile alien has the chick trussed up like a side of beef. Super Cheeze but still I remember it well enough i did a search for it.

  • Nestor! What a bunch of sausage eating bandage heads!

  • star wars rip off....but it's still good..

  • @coolmartcol Actually, it's a rip of "The Magnificent Seven", which is a rip off "The Seven Samurai".

  • anyone know how many times Sadors battleship has made an appearance in various sci/fi B films? ive seen that ship in at least 4 different films!

  • @aspieraver I think it just passed over my house. I tried to hitch a ride but he wasnt interested in my hairy man thighs. Shame.

  • Jon-Boy flies through space in a giant vagina cross-section

  • havent seen this since I was a kid. Some of the models look pretty impressive although I still think john-boys ship has boobs.

George and Robert must have been pretty desperate to do this though.

  • I saw this when I was a kid. It was cheesy, but really fun for a Saturday afternoon.

  • This looks more retarded than Obamacare.

  • @markscudder thats the friggen point, B movie awesomness

  • @Tacom4ster I know it's a B-movie, I was trying to be funny.

  • @markscudder Does everything have to do with Obama? The dude won 2 years ago, get over it.

  • @anditslikethat He and most of his followers still think everything has to do with Bush, so, yeah, it kinda does. Plus it was a joke. Granted, not as good as Margaret Cho's "it would be an insult to Hilter to compare Bush to him" (A-HAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!"), but a joke nonetheless. Move on with your life.

  • George Peppard, Robert Vaugn,John Saxon I heard the most of the buget went to pay these guys.

  • I watched this movie on the sci fi network back in 2000 it came on like 3am it was the worst space film ever. Until i saw wing commander sorry freddie prince jr.

  • rofl

  • John saxon! DAMN!

  • Oh no

  • check those bobbies star ship yum yum wish I was space matter!!!

  • how did the Cylon ship and Rebel blockade runner make it all the way to that galaxy? lol

  • Some of the sound effects were from Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers.

  • Cheesy cocaine-induced Hollywood shit.

Sums up the entire film and production crew.

  • @rockstarrocket Cocaine's a hell of a drug. - Rick James

  • You guys should actually watch this before commenting. The ship designs very very imaginative (compared to the ep1-3 shit we got now). The music was inspiring. And Robert Vaughn showed us the real meaning of anti-hero. Since 90% of sci-movies have 13-year olds (to pull in the "cool" crowd I guess) as protagonists, this movie is ripe for the remake (hey they did it for Clash of the Titans, which was equally, if more, obscure).

  • @GrimReaper1207 Ahahahaahha! Good One!

  • He would be honored, though puzzled as to why there are no katanas in the entire movie.

  • Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiip!

    Offffffffffffffffffff!!!!

    Bad John Boy, bad!

  • Robert Vaughn looks annoyed that he is in this.

  • Check out the italian "Starcrash", it's even better lol !!!

  • I remember this turkey!

  • This is a Star Wars facsimile that I haven't seen yet, and I guess there were a lot of them.

    Will see how it goes.

  • James Cameron did the model work, and then did art direction for the film. Supposedly he funneled his paychecks back into the production to make up for Corman wanting to cut corners at the last minute. The "boobs" ship Nell was Cameron's idea.

  • Would a male homosexual enjoy this film?

  • I love this old film. Roger Corman works wonders on a shoestring budget! thanx for posting.

  • hmm...interesting. is this earlier than star wars?

  • Star Wars was 1977, this is 1980.

This is one of the many movies around this time period that were trying to make money off the obsession for space opera created by Star Wars. Other examples are Black Hole, the Star Trek movies, and Alien.

  • thx for reply

  • @arockstar18

that's a far too simplified way of looking at it.

  • A lil' tweakin' in the FX, some better dialoge, & better actors, & I am sure that this would've been a better movie...I wonder what James Cameron could do with this movie?

  • james cameron did the special effects for the movie amaroq69 read it in wikipedia website!

  • Of course he did...but in todays standards I can't imagine what Cameron could/would do!

  • agreed amaroq69!

  • good trailer!

  • The footage from this movie has been used in about 50 other films, so Corman must have done all right from that!

  • Yes, Betamax was around before VHS... All hail Wikipedia!!! LOL!!!

  • Yep, this is definitely a piece of...... film.

(We had to watch this in grade school... on a BETA!!!)

You kids that don't know what Beta is, look it up.

  • Betamax was around before VHS.

  • Credit where its due, to James Horner. "A" music for a "B-" movie. As good as anything Jerry Goldsmith or John Williams ever did for other space operas of this era. Whatever R Corman paid Horner, he got a bargain. Since the theme music basically sold this (very) little movie.

  • Sorry, have to pick myself off the floor after that heavy dose of nostalgia... WOW. I'd totally forgotten about this movie. Its wonderfully cheesy.

  • Pretty nice cast

  • love Nell..The flying uterus!!!!

  • Space John-boy kicked ass. You couldn't kick more ass if it was the ass-kickingest day of the year and you had an electrified ass-kicking machine ... Actually the chick with the giant boobs really did it for me.

  • i could see stars in all the space shots. were they beyond them? i'm confused.

  • its datas brother

  • I remember seeing this movie at the old Ramova theater in Chicago, IL. I liked the music score, even today I still like it. Thanks for posting it.

  • I remember seeing this at the old Embassy theatre in Zimbabwe Africa many years ago, wasnt quite Star Wars but it was Scifi so I enjoyed it. It just seemed that every Scifi movie after Star Wars tried so hard but couldnt quite keep up or do anything drastically different.

  • The Flash Gordon movie did manage to be a bit diferent from Star Wars,..that movie was'nt a very big hit though,..not theatricaly anyway.

  • Do you mean the one Queen did the music for? Yeah Flash Gordon was a bit different, yeah just different.

  • Thats right, the one that came out in 1980. Well actualy, that movie was more similar to Barbarela than Star Wars I thought.

  • I'm loving that James Horner soundtrack! He hasn't done much since 2003. I miss his style of music regardless of his occasional formulaic scores.

  • courtney this was an excellent film. it had EXCEPTIONAL soundtrack and sound effects, above average(for the time) visual effects, a fair cast and its based loosley on the seve samurai. all in all what more do you want from a sci fi film?

  • If Star Wars had never existed, what would you say about BBTS then?

  • Probably....Ever since Alien there hasn't been a scifi quite like that, kidding mate BBTS was great...but still Star Wars did exist and set the bar.

  • Another film that tried to cash in on star wars.
