Even if 50% of those quotes are fabricated or presented out of context, it still makes the book an inappropriate document on which to base one's life. I would expect that a society that follows those teachings would evolve into a backwards civilization.

A lot of the "verses" posted here aren't actually the texts of the verses, but are "summations" of what someone, in this case I believe it is from SAQ, thinks that the verses are supposed to mean. Notice that sometimes the verses use "quotes", which is to imply that the text comes directly from the Qur'an. That means that the parts that are not in quotes are not actually from the Qur'an. This video is certainly misleading.

Searching for Qur'an in Google will lead to the USC-MSA translations of it which seem fairly credible, if you don't believe the Skeptic's Annotated Bible. I didn't find serious discrepancies between them and Nick's video.

First, I don't even know where to begin in terms of addressing this video. Their is not one consistent reason why the quotes are misleading. Their are many. For example, probably most of the verses mentioned refer to punishment for immorality or disbelief <i>to be administered in the afterlife</i>. In other words, they cannot, for a second, be interpreted as an individual or legal license for Muslims or Islamic governments to punish others.
Second, if you want to attempt a reasonable, logical deconstruction of a religion, one way to start is to be as meticulous and thoroughgoing as possible in your approach. And, yes, that does mean <i>learning the original language of the scripture.</i> If you don't want to do that, than the least you can do is cross-reference the translations, instead of copy-pasting the most mangled, ill-intentioned versions of that text.
What most athiests have gone about doing is adopting whatever Christian fundamentalists have written about Islam (which is itself drawn from angry, self-righteous, and often bizarre Medieval writings). In sum, criticism of Islam hasn't really evolved through the ages. Athiests/Agnostics, for their part, would do well to follow in the tradition of Russell, Popper, and others by accepting certain realities about Islam (its non-aggression, its relatively progressive scripture, etc.).

I don't have a Koran in front of me but I've also read it and it does encourage violence countless times. Most members of any religion are good people who want peace but the Koran 100% encourages violence. I urge everyone to read the Old Testament, New Testament and Koran. Decide yourelf whice encourages violence the most and which the least. Please also historically compare the lives and teachings of Jesus and Mohammed.

There is an explanation but it involves the history of Mohammud. Being raised by his uncle, marrying an older woman for her money until she died and he inherited it.
He traveled up to Midian ( where he learned about the jewish religion) became a prophet then returned BACK to his pagan Kaba and claimed Abraham built it.

A lot of the "verses" posted here aren't actually the texts of the verses, but are "summations" of what someone, in this case I believe it is from SAQ, thinks that the verses are supposed to mean. Notice that sometimes the verses use "quotes", which is to imply that the text comes directly from the Qur'an. That means that the parts that are not in quotes are not actually from the Qur'an. This video is certainly misleading.

Muslim's should translate the Qu'arn for us Christian people, so we are not left to have non-Muslim translations of the text. I'm not saying I don't believe this video, because I have nothing else to go by so I do, but I - beling a Christian - believe God to universal, not just one region or language. The Holy Bible was once read in, I believe Latin, in Catholic mass until about the 1970s.

Its adjective "true" is well defined--sort of, the whole "liar paradox" arises from an attempt to rigorously define the word "true"--in logic (and some philosophies), but the stand-alone noun makes less sense the more you think about it.

Your right our god is not your god. We dont worship human beings. The teachings of Islam existed since the creation of adam. The message that it brings is nothing new, but the same message of all of the prophets - submit to Almighty God and worship Him alone. As such, God's revelation in the Qur'an focuses on teaching human beings the importance of believing in the Unity of God and framing their lives around the guidance which He has sent.

Its merely a warning against the people whom the prophets came to, when they came to preach the word of the God. To warn the people about rejecting truth and a punishment waiting for them for disbelieving. To warn the polytheists, atheists, fire worshippers and many other transgressors and corrupters. If the people were never warned at all, on the day of judgement what are they going to say "Nobody warned us about this punishment".

First, I don't even know where to begin in terms of addressing this video. Their is not one consistent reason why the quotes are misleading. Their are many. For example, probably most of the verses mentioned refer to punishment for immorality or disbelief <i>to be administered in the afterlife</i>. In other words, they cannot, for a second, be interpreted as an individual or legal license for Muslims or Islamic governments to punish others.

Second, if you want to attempt a reasonable, logical deconstruction of a religion, one way to start is to be as meticulous and thoroughgoing as possible in your approach. And, yes, that does mean <i>learning the original language of the scripture.</i> If you don't want to do that, than the least you can do is cross-reference the translations, instead of copy-pasting the most mangled, ill-intentioned versions of that text.

What most athiests have gone about doing is adopting whatever Christian fundamentalists have written about Islam (which is itself drawn from angry, self-righteous, and often bizarre Medieval writings). In sum, criticism of Islam hasn't really evolved through the ages. Athiests/Agnostics, for their part, would do well to follow in the tradition of Russell, Popper, and others by accepting certain realities about Islam (its non-aggression, its relatively progressive scripture, etc.).

Well, if you wish to use logic, then the least you can do is get a PhD in philosophy or mathematics. Don't be an idiot. Learning an entire language is a huge barrier to discussion, and obviously the act of learning the language itself is likely to have be taught it by a believer. Either way, ordinary independent analysis is not available to western speakers.

One can grasp the nature of the text <i>if one has a reasonable translation. One whose translator makes an honest attempt at capturing the essence of the scripture</i> Therein lies the problem. Thier are around half a dozen major English translations.

Nick was not banned because this video contains misquoted verses from the Quran but because of music copyright. He also said that he had prior warnings about other videos not religious in nature but with the same problem.
