1985--roller skate rink: chasing, laughing, falling...bustin my *ss! getting up, dusting myself off, trying to play it off like the whole world didn't see.. chasing after that pretty girl...AGAIN
That's right. This is the original version released by Expose in '85. Alejandra Lorenzo is the lead singer. Jeanette sang the replacement iteration released two years later.
Thanks for responding back with all the information. When you like a band, and a loose thread emerges, you feel that you owe it to the original girls....to know their part of the bands history. Thanks for telling it.
An audience of stars where everyone was a celebrity and the stage took a place behind the more interesting club dance floor and cocktail lounge. The peak of mankind. The time the children of the gods walked this earth and all that remains is for others to imagine or remember.
So what happened to these original girls. I had no idea there was an original line up before Jeanette, Goia....why were they replaced if anyone knows.
@Kaspar447 Don't know but I saw that final line-up at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, I think it was summer of 89? They were touring with the release of the single "tell me why" which I guess was an anti-gang violence theme, and it was a sellout and all the gang bangers showed up cause they loved Expose' and you could cut the testosterone in the air with a knife! Epic show with a tight back up band, surprised to see that Goia did most of the heavy lifting with vocals but all were great!
@Kaspar447 Well, since you asked. I happen to know one of the girls and she keeps in touch with me still. The girl who sang lead on point of no return is supposed to meet for dinner when she is in Los Angeles. Perhaps sing it for me live. Sadly however, the third girl has passed away, God rest her soul. When Laurie broke the news to me I had to cancel the rest of the days meetings, park on the coast and watch the ocean waves till sun down. I thought we were supposed to live forever.
If only I can make a flux capacitor and put it in my car so I can get the hell out of 2011 and go the 1980's. If I had the opportunity, I will in an instant. I can give a rats ass about flat screen tvs, smart phones, and 1000 hd channels. I don't have any of these things anyways. I would rather live in a time where the music was cool, people were more layed back and down to earth, and the ecomony was better where I can easily get a job and a decent appartment. Don't ask for much in this life.
@Mr90sdude if I could give that comment 10 thumbs up I would. In 1986 you had to be stupid to not just fall into a decent paying job, enough to put a roof over your head, food in your stomach and gas in the tank. Here we have the internet but you know it's a good part of why things are so fucked up now. People don't need to stand in line to buy tickets to a concert, don't even need to leave the house. So many opportunities gone forever. Bah! But we lived in the best of times.
@Mr90sdude It makes me feel so low to hear others say they would rather leave this place and go back to that time in the 80's where we owned the world and ruled it with love. With every compromise since then we slip further into darkness, trading what we took for granted by following a cyber fascination that has lead us into a box all alone.
@sunseree" Or the other way around"?!!! Sunseree, these women were singing 26 years ago. They are now in their 40's. What makes you think that they took from an unborn child, not even a twinkling in Gaga's mother's eye? Why do the kids of the 90's keep thinking that Gaga is an oridginal when she herself took from the originators? Grace Jones, TLC, Cher, Madonna, Patti Labelle, Expose' and anyone else from the 80's- 90's period are the originators over Gaga and anyone else today.
@Calvin375 Calm down...why would i say that they took from an unborn child? What kind of sense does that make? All i was saying was that the resembalance was similar. I don't think Lady GaGa is an original, in fact i don't even like her.
This was the year that the club scene EXPLODED, and EVERYONE became self-aware at the same time! This song really started the whole shibang, in my mind! Grunge killed some things off, but the 2000's really killed music, eventually.......now, all we have are islands of quality music. in the 80's, EVERYONE danced, young, old, fat, thin, boy, girl, gay, straight, drugs or NOT.....EVERYONE danced. Life really WAS checked at the door, and now, it's not about fun or love anymore.....
@thegenie1 I agree with you, and this version of the song is the best, but like you said we only have recordings of good music. I appreciate the people playing music now but by far they cant compare to the past.
@thegenie1--You know that's right. In the 90's, all of that died, and we now have to live with the horrible aftermath. That's one reason why I don't bother checking out the new music with a few exceptions here and there. I hope all of that changes now in the 2010's.
@thegenie1 Today It's about getting ahead of everyone else no matter how many bodies you have to crawl over, and then buying that thing that they have brainwashed you into believing you need to make your life worth living. Give me a time machine and I'll set it for June 1 1985 and this sick New World Order world can kiss my @SS!
@thegenie1 This is something I brought up with a friend a few years ago. The 80s was really the turning point when people would act emotionally authentic. Everyone only cares about acting hard or cool now. Anything that is slightly silly is done for the sake of being cool or "ironic".
I appreciate that statement but I was in my 20s and I had some great fun in the club scene in the 70s too. Disco came before that and I was happy to be there for both and remember clearly when New Wave started in 1979.
@LAwoman1956 In my 20s now just went to a club last night all I can say is awful they cant seriously call what they play in clubs now music its pure garbage I wish I could of been in the clubs when you were when real music actually existed!!
There are only a few good songs to dance now but not like before and I'm positive you would have loved being in the clubs back in the day, it was a different time. people didn't act like they do now like they all think they are super stars or something, especially if they relocate to Los Angeles. I'm a native and have never acted like that.
Allright I need some Help, A friend told me if you watch "Your Baby Never Looked Good In Blue" and Paused the video at (0:00-0:01) real quick you'd see an alien. I don't believe in Aliens but I saw some weird shit can anybody looked that shit up and comeback & tell me what do you think that shit is
picture it -- 26 y.o. I listened to this on my personal stereo while crossing the SF Bay on the SF/Sausilito GG Ferry after work with a cocktail in hand. hope there are others who also have sweet memories of those times -- if not remember that NOW is your time. make wise choices b/c your memories are all you will really have. make them special. NO REGRETS!! TO HELL W/ GUILT AND SHAME. xx
i dont understand how freestyle was overlooked by the majority of listeners on contemporary radio in those days, my only guess is that MOST whites and blacks didnt listen(which is fact) to this, just the VERY minority latinos who didnt get recognition in those days(80s) and was eventually forgotten... but that was then, shit, we have a huge presence now we need to bring this back!!! we need an identity again and stop acting like somebody we are not!
Thanks for taking me back to Honduras ,wow everything was so nice back then .

Lol it felt & sounds like the original expose girls made the song but sounded like a demo and was replaced by the other girls.
-The original had the drive but I guess the label didn't feel it's was going any where so they got the boot.
-The new girls re-recorded the song and the label loved it and boom! A hit!
I like both versions!! ;)

Kaspar447 6 months ago
@Kaspar447 Don't know but I saw that final line-up at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, I think it was summer of 89? They were touring with the release of the single "tell me why" which I guess was an anti-gang violence theme, and it was a sellout and all the gang bangers showed up cause they loved Expose' and you could cut the testosterone in the air with a knife! Epic show with a tight back up band, surprised to see that Goia did most of the heavy lifting with vocals but all were great!
batvette 6 months ago

LOVE the 80's with a passion.
EK9adamu 6 months ago

@vasallizinni I didn't get your post, it was either so philosophical that only in your mind did it make sense, or you really were ranting.

Love this song...one of my old time favs. I'm an 80's chick myself :) Hey Alejandra kinda looks like Lady Ga Ga, or the other way around.
sunseree 6 months ago
@sunseree" Or the other way around"?!!! Sunseree, these women were singing 26 years ago. They are now in their 40's. What makes you think that they took from an unborn child, not even a twinkling in Gaga's mother's eye? Why do the kids of the 90's keep thinking that Gaga is an oridginal when she herself took from the originators? Grace Jones, TLC, Cher, Madonna, Patti Labelle, Expose' and anyone else from the 80's- 90's period are the originators over Gaga and anyone else today.
Calvin375 6 months ago
@Calvin375 Calm down...why would i say that they took from an unborn child? What kind of sense does that make? All i was saying was that the resembalance was similar. I don't think Lady GaGa is an original, in fact i don't even like her.
sunseree 6 months ago
@sunseree Well, you were the one who made the statement,"Or the other way around", which implies she came before the others of that time period.

I'm convinced (good) music died in 1997. Thank God for Adele and Beth Ditto!
PalmerWhit 6 months ago
@thegenie1 I agree with you, and this version of the song is the best, but like you said we only have recordings of good music. I appreciate the people playing music now but by far they cant compare to the past.
Drenature 6 months ago
@thegenie1--You know that's right. In the 90's, all of that died, and we now have to live with the horrible aftermath. That's one reason why I don't bother checking out the new music with a few exceptions here and there. I hope all of that changes now in the 2010's.
Interests2010s 6 months ago
@thegenie1 Today It's about getting ahead of everyone else no matter how many bodies you have to crawl over, and then buying that thing that they have brainwashed you into believing you need to make your life worth living. Give me a time machine and I'll set it for June 1 1985 and this sick New World Order world can kiss my @SS!

@thegenie1 This is something I brought up with a friend a few years ago. The 80s was really the turning point when people would act emotionally authentic. Everyone only cares about acting hard or cool now. Anything that is slightly silly is done for the sake of being cool or "ironic".
ilgomar4 4 months ago
@thegenie1
I appreciate that statement but I was in my 20s and I had some great fun in the club scene in the 70s too. Disco came before that and I was happy to be there for both and remember clearly when New Wave started in 1979.
LAwoman1956 4 months ago
@LAwoman1956 In my 20s now just went to a club last night all I can say is awful they cant seriously call what they play in clubs now music its pure garbage I wish I could of been in the clubs when you were when real music actually existed!!
ManningHhh 3 months ago
@ManningHhh
There are only a few good songs to dance now but not like before and I'm positive you would have loved being in the clubs back in the day, it was a different time. people didn't act like they do now like they all think they are super stars or something, especially if they relocate to Los Angeles. I'm a native and have never acted like that.

i dont understand how freestyle was overlooked by the majority of listeners on contemporary radio in those days, my only guess is that MOST whites and blacks didnt listen(which is fact) to this, just the VERY minority latinos who didnt get recognition in those days(80s) and was eventually forgotten... but that was then, shit, we have a huge presence now we need to bring this back!!! we need an identity again and stop acting like somebody we are not!
