hi., never played piano before, and when holding my hand straight up my wrist starts to tire (and hurt after an half hour) and I have a tendency to start laying my hand flat, is this something that my wrist will get used to?
@daemonk9 - well it's not possible for me to actually see how you're holding your hand above the piano keys so just remember that you basically must be comfortable when playing. However if your hand is totally resting on top of the keys, this will reduce your effectiveness in playing.
@getpianolessons I didn't describe the problem well, ok ...your wrists are parallel to the piano, while my wrist wants to be diagonal (so my fingers almost lie on the the other and my pinky touches two keys when I press it down, I have to keep wrist muscles very flexed to go horizontal, will this state improve or is my anatomy different from the norm?
@XxLadyAnjuxX - if you can stretch your ring and thumb fingers at least 7 notes apart (an octave) than you'll be fine. But even if you can't .... there are many small children who play very technical classical pieces on the piano with no problem (just search YouTube). No matter small or large hands... you'll need practice to develop your playing ability just like anyone else.

thanks for this lesson...it's my first time and have zero knowledge about pianos..but this lesson is very easy to understand and not boring to watch...thanks agian...
....they're right..you're such a great teacher... : )
@smokeme442200 - I'm definitely not going to say "always" because I can't comment on all situations. This is just general advice. I'm referring to the passage of notes presented in this video.
Also since I can't see what you're doing (unless you post your own video) I can't see what mistakes you might be making. If you keep having trouble you might want to hire an actual piano teacher to guide you.
my first piano lesson ever...thanx :) i can sing, so really motivated to know how to accompany myself. plus my favorite composer [salim merchant] is a piano ace so even i wanna learn :)
An acoustic piano and a digital piano have the same notes (musical tones)...... the difference between the two is in the construction of the keyboard mechanism itself.
Hey I'm 21, and my mom is 46, we are both learning piano for the first tme in our life cuz we always said we wanted to, thanks for your lessons, I love that you took the time to do that props greatest lessons I found so far

Amazing stuff..... its a blessing to have your lessons here on the web.... its amazingly helpful and easy to grasp.... thanks A LOOOOTTTTT for these lessons and for sharing your knowledge..... God bless you
Ur methods are very effective.. I'm a beginner and I just thought I'd make a suggestion with the hand exercises by doubling they key strikes when mixing in staccato and legato exercises.. trust me it adds a wrinkle in the brain.. especially good for beginners like me who have weak 4 and 5 fingers : )
wao, this exactly the way i wanted to learn. knowing how the hand should be plased, and details such as the wrist positions. Im mainly a guitarist and i hapend to know basic music theory, and have some hand agility from the guitar, but i was having a really hard time trying to learn to play the keyboard, but i belive that now whit your videos im in the right direction, thanks a lot.
Yeah, I hear you there. As a piano/keyboard instructor and a guitarist, I agree that a visual approach in learning/teaching the keyboard works far better than merely reading notes. (Sightreading is useful, too.) And yes, music theory is YOUR BEST FRIEND, believe it or not! Use it for better visualization of fingerings (on keys or guitar or whatnot). And it's very useful in improv/composition and learning existing pieces and songs. Music theory helps you see common patterns/structures in music.
Do you think staccato exercises have as much merit when playing with lighter keys like on a keyboard? I still do them but sometimes it seems that speed and stretching exercises strengthen my fingers a little more
I always think its better to use weighted keys instead of non-weigthed. You need the extra pressures against your fingers as your playing staccato piano exercises. Otherwise your fingers may get used to the "flimsy keys" and get fatigued when you play an actual piano.
Ok question...Now i can do this, but, my pinky is weak, and it dosnt response like my other fingers do, should this make my pinky stronger? (and from part 2)
Absolutely! Its just like working your biceps or any part of your body. The more you practice the better you will get. Do it until your little finger is fatigued and then rest for a day. Come back the following day... and youll notice the difference in how much easier it will become. Just be patient.
hay you should consider getting a pod cast for those of us who dont have are keyboard on by the computer that way we cantake you to the keyboard/ piano.
nice video i would call myself and advance learner because i grasp this so quickly. also thanks for the proper posture and for teaching the numbers and staccato thnks again

Thank you so much. I think what you're doing is great. I had a few lessons when I was little, but I haven't played for a long time. We just got a keyboard for Christmas, so I'm so glad there's a place like this.
It's spelled "with out"... and the basic idea of this exercise is to help beginners develop their fingering ability by controlling the actions of each individual finger. Sorry if you didn't understand.
Thanks a lot for the lessons...they are very well explained...I am trying to practice more and more..Thanks again.
