i do trampoline and tumbling and it is not at all like this. you dont ( or i dont ) get yelled at by my coach for being scared. we do some scary stuff and its impossible not to be scared at one point. i love my coach and my team.
i hate how almost all gymnastics movie show gymnasts negatively. i've been doing gymnastics and honestly its not like this at all. Yes you start to worry about your weight more. Yes sometimes its really hard in the gym. Ive been exercising more and eating right because of gymnastics. no eating disorders involved. infact, it has made me healthier. When it gets hard in the gym, you move forward. If you have your focus, you can achieve great things. You know your body & have to know when to stop.
I understand the dad's reaction... but the fact of the matter is that if you want to be a professional athlete, you have to push yourself, and you will get injured in the process. That said, the coach is horrible (he needs to push the girls yes, but he has to know when to stop too), and the way these girls are pushing themselves is not an ideal way at all...
This is a good example of how you ALWAYS need to listen to your body. Your body is your temple and if you don't take care of it properly, things like this can happen.
Ok the thing that irks me is, if every gymnast gave up because they saw someone get hurt, then no one would be a gymnast. It's sad that people get hurt, but its going to happen. Life isn't fair.
if i'll have a daugther i wouldnt want her doing any profesional gymnastics or ballet all that professional stuff i mean i understand its all beautiful but i wouldnt want my daugther (if ill have one) to become a slave to to such sport or ballet and suffer like that. maybe its wrong what im thinking, but id want her to have friends live a life and not worry about diets
It's good that the father isn't there every day, because that's why he still is able to see the reality of what's in front of him. The mother has gotten slowly sucked into the little world of the gymnastics club, accepting one more bad thing every day, until she no longer has any perspective. She and the daughter have both kind of been brainwashed.
"It is your responsibility to stay out of the way. You don't get it mom... you are not in-charge anymore". Really? And who pays for the freak*** gymnastics, to start with? Little piece of sh**. She needs a wake up call... like NOW.
It really annoys me that you can't watch part 7 in the UK (it's not authorised by the WMG or something). How does Dana injure her neck? and what happens at the meet? Can anyone fill me in?? :)
If I were Dana's mother, I'd be more concerned about her having a cracked neck vertebrae than her gymnastics career ending. I would rather have my child happy and healthy than a child who is a star but is permanently crippled.
the father is the only person in this scene with any intelligence. i know gymnastics star parents. there all the same. its really sad. these kids are given no chance after they become great athletes.
Wasn't the father the one that initiated her into persuing her dream. If I recall, he was the one that pressed on making them go away with the coach. Now he wants her to quit. I think the mother was not too thrilled in the beginning, but gave in because the dad insisted.
The little girl, is way out of line, by telling her mom that she is not in charge anymore!! Well, in my opinion, both parents should of thought of this before!!!!
what a duche bag he should support his daughter in whatever she wants to do and if she gets hurt well at lest she learned something i mean its her life and her body
Ohhhhh man, if I told my mother at that age (or any age, come to think of it) that her job was to stay out of the way, and she wasn't in charge anymore, she would have KILLED me! And pulled my butt out of whatever it was she supposedly wasn't in charge of!
2 things: #1, the tall beety-eyed girl needs a kick in the face for smiling when other ppl are being fussed at, and
#2 Dana needs to be kicked in the butt and back into reality. There is no way that I would put my marriage into serious jeopardy and pay out the wazoo for training just so my daughter could talk to me like she has lost her mind.
He hasn't been there, even though it was his idea and now he doesn't even wanna listen to them...to what his daughter wants???? After everthing he wanted to begin with he should have been more supportive...
I'm suprised Katies mom didn't pop her when she talked back to her. If I ever told my mom " you're not in charge anymore" she would spank me bear bottom style or slap me
This storyline is about pushing your body to the limit for gymnastics and gymnastics is the focus......Perfect Body is about Eating Disorders with a gymnastic backround where the ED is the focus.
i totaly agree with that, i just meant that they have a talented girl having fun with gymnastics in the beginning, then a great coach comes, says he wants to take her, she goes with him, mothers moves with daughter while the dad stays back, then everything is too much (whether trough ed or pushing too much in general) and then its over and family comes back together again in the old enviroment
Dana's mom is crying about all her sacrifices as if she did all that training herself while her daughter lies in bed with a neck brace on, injured and disappointed... wow!
okay i really dont think the coach would make her throw something she had never done without a spot! how did she know what to do? no wonder she didnt throw the full.
so what?? now you can officially sit in the front now??!!
what in the world.. how does she become the one who is oblivious to the whole gymnastics thing and the father is the one who thinks that the gymnastics thing is going too far.
In the hospital I'm expecting Allison Jesse Raphael to whip out a microphone and say, "Mrs. Parker, tell us about the first time you saw your daughter compete. Was she pregnant then or did that happen when she began hanging around unsavory characters?"
God, I hate the mom. She only wanted this for herself. But now she can't ride her daughter's coattails anymore. What a tragedy *dramatic roll of the eyes*
...Is it just me or are all gymnasts in movies like these single children? Strange thing is, my friend (who's a gymnast) is the only single child I know...
I think a reason for that may be because gymnastics is so expensive that a lot of parents who have multiple children can't afford it. That's just in SOME cases of course.
Katie's mom isn't even that bad compared to a lot of the gymnasts moms i've seen...from what i see she didn't force her into doing anything and always asked her if she wanted to do it or not.
but yeah i've seen the mother of an 8 year old girl force her child to compete on a fractured foot. straight up child abuse
Dana's mother was simply hiding under a shell, all the Bitch Queen image was to protect her, she had nothing anymore, only her daughter's dream, and now, it's the end of it...
omg i cant believe DANA had to apologize to her mom and comfort her when shes the one who had to give up her dream and stop doing something she loved.
If you go to a gym where they don't let the parents watch I wouldn't take my daughter there. I've been coaching for 10 years and coaches should never say anything in front of the gymnast that they wouldn't want the parent to see.
I think gymnastics can be fun and I love watching the girls at the olympics...but does this look fun to anyone?? It's so dangerous and there is so much pressure. I'd rather do another sport like soccer or whatever. This is too crazy.
ha i wish i said that 2 my mom cuz she pulled me out bcause my coach yelled at me a lot and i was working out 6 hours a day wen i was only 11 years old..... wats weird is now all i want to do is go back i really miss gymnastics but my mom said she is doing wats best 4 me
Yeah that fall would have taken the wind out of her and maybe, MAYBE sprained her neck if she had a bit of "whiplash" but that is rare, and that fall was actually a good fall.
that poor girl's mother is the kind of mother that couldn't care less about her child. she's trying to fulfill her own dreams through her kid - i feel sorry for real gymnasts who have to deal with that.
I once read a (fiction) book about gymnasts, and they never used chalk on the vault because it made it too slippery. (I just assumed it was correct, but maybe not!)
I think everyone is different. I never ever chalked my hands for vault and I've never been in a gym where the higher level kids did, either. I DID like to chalk up my feet, though.
1. Aren't you not supposed to chalk your hands for vault? 2. Why are the coaches in this movie constantly saying, "C'mon, c'mon, let's go, hurry up!" ?
