  • If you have not seen the interview with Charlotte Iserbytt on the education system you'll never understand what is truly going on in schools.

  • It's SO simple it's not even funny...give people choice, you will solve ALL our problems.

  • The young man who's Mother was upset that he couldn't read should have taken matters into her own hand years ago. It shows a huge lack or ownership of her child. YOU are who knows whats best for your child and if they cant' read the reading lessons should have been provided by you.

  • They don't know what the Bill of Rights is? I swear, my school isn't that great, but I know a lot more than them, I swear people just don't retain information. I guess I'm pretty self taught, I don't know, lol.

  • I wonder what the teacher was supposed to do to control the 19 yr olds who had their feet up or wandering. Detention? Call home? Let the administration know? I'm sure the principal would come right down and set them straight. Is anything ever the student's responsibility??

  • the nutty professor @02:38

  • My college class sent me here to do an essay on this, this is actually very intresting.

  • No Child Left Behind has become, No Child Shall Excel. The real problem in education is the governing bodies that pass law after law and heap new requirements on the schools, and they have no concept of how to truly educate students.

  • The portion about boy who improved two grade levels in "Just 72 hours" missed a few key points. That 72 hours of private instruction is equivalent to eight (8) YEARS of classroom instruction in a small reading class. So he improved two years with eight years worth of instruction!

  • I thought it was only "inner city thugs" who behaved poorly in class and "ghetto trash schools" that under performed? Time to get a reality check. We need that before we can fix schools.

  • Nothing to do with money it's the parents n the system I move to america from Haiti (the poorest country in the carribean) when I was in the six grade n things I use to do in third grade they were just learning n six that was pretty sad to see

  • Part of the problem is the parents don't read and teach outside of the class. My mother made sure I knew how to read before kindergarten. Did it make a difference? Me and my brother both graduated from college. My brother is a doctor, while I am an "underachiever" with only my Masters.

It's not just the parents. It's also protecting terrible teachers, overpaid administrators and celeb obsessed culture.

  • Our schools are failing us but our parents are failing us as well. I feel parent involvement is key to turning this around. If we, as parents, demand and participate in a better school system, I think we'd see a huge difference.

  • I don't think we're stuper...stupider?

  • where i live we have 2 major high schools. 1 in the suburbs and 1 in the "hood"/urban area. Border being 1 block. Both schools are bad, just that the school in suburbs with the more money can cover up their action. After school students(80%) from both schools attend a local community college. The GED rate in the suburb school is even higher!

  • @MADMILLION2 I wouldn't be surprised if more suburban schools were bad but are hiding it for demographic reasons.

  • 50% of new teachers quit within 5 years! That is half!

Schools are a reflection of their communities!

God bless the inner-city teachers who risk their lives daily teaching the children of drug addicts, gang-bangers, prostitutes, homeless, illegal aliens, & poverty-ridden people! Many times going far and beyond the call of duty!

Thank you for all the hard work you do!

  • @MsJanetWood Don't mention that game. :D

  • My schools in Washington State I went to between 1992 and 2004 weren't as bad as the ones in this 20/20 John Stossel special.

  • 0:33 "If you can't prove it, don't try it"

Now, there's a good approach to testing hypotheses.

  • There are a lot of secrets involved. Poor schools turn out the occasional contributor, and a big deal is made out of it. Upscale schools(contrary to media reports--or the absence thereof)have it made clear to them by the upscale PARENTS that excellence and results are expected from their tax money. They're portrayed as being "bitchy" and "uptight" by the liberal t.v. and movie producers.

  • They are better off just giving the $10,000 per year as a reward for the smartest kid, after an essay is writen on what they will do with the money. EX: open a business and submit a business plan with essay.

The money would do more good rather than spend on the idiot children who worship Lady gaga and try to be popular.

  • The student has to put in the work, but I am tired of the older generation complaining of the younger generation when they are the ones that have screwed up the country. The economy, war, etc. are not the younger generations fault. Something needs to change, but the "adult" generation needs to take some responsibility and buckle down and fix it. It burns me that other countries think of Americans this way.

  • @KevinZ18355 don't be fooled, we know not all americans are stupid, i've met at least one, and talked

to a few over the net, ans they sounded quite smart.

  • This video is extremely relevant to contemporary American students, and it has 929 views. The latest Lil wayne, Lada Gaga or whatever song (If you want to call it that) - has absolutely no contribution to their future... over 10 million views... Indeed, the answer is schools offering even more expensive toys.

  • @KX5Kat Yes that is exactly a sign of a degenerate society. Look on the video where CNN is asking potential presidential candidates who they like more Conan or Leno....Blackberry or Iphone....Thin crust or thick crust pizza (no joke)

Our society has been dwindled down into a cesspool of attention whores and lazy piles of fat shit that have the attention span of a rock and the intelligence of one also.

  • @agenthelios1 A lot of this has to do with dumb Americans being celebrity obsessed and are always trying to act cute and get attention.

No wonder all other countries hate our dumb asses.

  • All i can say is wow... 18 and cant read? I was taught to read at age 4 lololol

  • i don't think we are stupider than them. lol . yup.

  • The school districts won't let news crews in? It's public property! They should be 100% open, otherwise they should not get a dime of tax money.

  • @YesWeCantaloupe in this day and age. all you have to do is say its to protect children and thats all they have to do. Try to go against it, youll get all those stupid bleeding heart moms.
