Yes actually I launched in about a 2mph tail. It was about 3:30 and getting late and prior to the launch the valley was in a shadow. As soon as the sun hit the landing field I launched. The launch faces NW and the drift was also to the NW. Inever got a chance to try your head support. i sold my harness after getting the cleat installed. Waiting on the new Covert.
Nicely done Miller! I went back and forth through your footage to figure out where everything was. Looks like that thermal was drifting AWAY from launch further out into the valley, is that right?
Perhaps that high ground in the middle of the valley was drawing the air towards it from all sides, setting up some slight convergence in the middle of the valley?
Great documentation of a low save. I'm sure it looks way higher in the video than it actually was!
I really thought hard about making that first turn. Being so low I didn't want to be spit out the side or the back of that thermal with no place to go. That thermal was really just forming and was constantly changing. If you go back you can hear the vertical air of the thermal. My strategy was to fly faster in order to maintain position and control. I couldn't afford to lose my placement in the thermal. It worked!
And what a low save !!! Good work ! Made it several times at 400 - 500 ' but never as low as yours... ouahhh ! I like your vid. Remember me an early 90's flying trip at Henson's Gap... very nice place to fly. Thanks for sharing. Happy 2011 flying :o)

Miller:
Great low save and thermal up and how high did you get above the launch? Looks like 500 ft. or more.
I think it would be fun to speed up the video so it plays in two or three minutes and then we could see you going up even faster.

I got rid of that harness. I never could get head down in it. I now have a Covert.

Every once in a while I think I have this game figured out, and then I see something like this. Nothing short of incredible. Wow.

My lowest save, so far, over a built-up area was 100' above the top of a building back up to 3000'.
