I don't care how old and cheesy this song may sound to our new generation but i just ADORE THIS SONG TO PIECES!!!!! it always puts me in the greatest mood ever...well, besides my baby Liam.. U NO I LOVE YOU, DON'T YOU? ;) <3
I wonder if there will be remasters of One to One and Cross that Line like there is with Human's Lib, Dream into Action, 12" Album, and Action Replay.
If so I wonder what stuff he will put on the bonus disc.
I recently heard this song on Sirius XM's 80's channel. It was the first time I heard it in over 20 years. I like Howard Jones' songs, but I find this one to be his best. Listening to it numerous times as a teenager in the 80's put me in a happy mood as I was dealing with the struggles of high school. Too bad great music like this isn't made nowadays. I remember seeing this video on NBC's Friday Night Videos. It's one of the more innovative music videos.
Second song from his set Oct. 16 5:15 EPCOT which was unfortunately delayed by a technical problem. A 9v battery dying in a foot pedal for his keyboard. He was embarrassed, but, as a classic English gentleman, he kept his dignity and stiff chin.
It's all in your personal opinion. You could simply say "I dislike the 80s" or something along those lines. Some people DO like the 80s(me included). But I realize some don't , and that is their opinion, and I have mine. Also, what is REAL music, is all in ones view.
When rock first started, classical people said "This isn't real music" when pop came out rock fans said "this isn't REAL music". To each his own.
@DaveWollenberg It got as high as 43 in the UK charts in '86 - first of HoJo's singles not to reach the top 40 (he hasn't been in it since) - Great song though !!
@mikmax66 Yet this song did better in the US - reaching #17 there, if I am not mistaken. Howard Jones would have one or two more hits in the US top 40 after this one - with 1989's #12 hit Everlasting Love (the video with the mummies) and maybe one last hit in 1992. Man, how I miss the 1980s so much, but the hits of the 21st century are probably the next best thing, IMO.
One To One was severely underrated. It was a brilliant return to form for HoJo after his second album which I can't even remember the name of, which was lacking in synths, and that had lyrics about the horrors of abbatoirs and other idealogical stuff.
Great Post. I remember seeing this video only once on Night Flight in '86. I went out the next day and bought the 45 single. I was surprised Jones came out with such a rocker!!!!
This song is the best I ever heard - EVER!!! Together with the video it's just unbelievable! HOWARD JONES IS SIMPLY THE BEST!!! Nothing left to say... I LOVE HIS MUSIC!!!!!
"You got the socket, I got the plug" haha....need I say more? HJ was one of the best of one of the best music eras and this is one of his best songs imho.
@simplyeighties Which industry ignores 95% of its customers by not providing any product of interest, quality or value? Answer: The MUSIC INDUSTRY. The music they do sell is aimed at a very small proportion of the population - and they happen to be the proportion with the least money to spend on music - teenage girls. WHY are the not selling music to us? Firstly, we have lots of money cos we work all day, and secondly we were brought up PAYING MONEY for music, not stealing it off the internet.
This is unlike the songs of today. Most of the music today is devoid of dynamics, intensity, or feeling. This song starts out with a pounding beat and ends with a pounding beat.
Thank God I grew up in the 80's, when MTV actually played... music videos! (Imagine that!) Thanks for posting - awesome video Howard - sounds as good today as it did back then.
right? wow, we were so fortunate to have experienced the 80s. everything is sucky by comparison: i don't like too much of the new music, and what i do like is from the 90s.
(with the exception a sylvian: his well just NEVER seems to run dry.)

@tunstead88 There's a hint of Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" thrown in as well, with the stop-motion animation.
