  • Spontanius generation only happens ones? so that is a theory you never cant prove than, So you must have more believe than randall. But ofcourse i understand how atheists think. Because we are here it must have happend.(Punctuated Equilibrium)

  • Hi five for RNAse away.

  • I still remember when it hit me how simple the process behind abiogenesis needed to be to work. I was sitting in my introductory biology class, my second or third semester in college. I'd heard about abiogenesis, but it was still beyond me, because I'd never been shown just how simple the 'first' 'cell' would have been. The professor was talking about phospholipids, and how they will form spontaneously into these vesicles under the right conditions, but that they are still permeable.

  • @Cyrathil I'm sure my understanding of it is horribly flawed, I'm an engineering student, but that was also just an introductory class. The actual mechanics of it at the graduate/research level are probably well beyond my chemistry/biology, but an introductory class seems enough information to make it viable, without getting into the deep mechanics.

  • I have that biology textbook :)

  • It's so annoying! Do they forget that they believe everything was spoken into existence OUT OF NOTHING!? Clicking, clapping, wand waving or saying abracadabra if you prefer.

  • i could keep up with you cos im doing biology at uni but i feel much of what you said might have gone above many viewers...but i loved it..thanks.

  • love your channel... but one thing has been bothering me... aren't you blinded by the green light projections on your wall?

  • Blah video like this.. you can barely hear you over the silly music. If you truly understand something then you will be able to explain it in simple terms. Videos like this where people just use the scientific jargon.. well it's not very convincing.

  • You are genuinely my favourite 'tuber at the moment. Don't do what my previous faves have done and leave! PWETTY PWEASE.

  • husky ftw xD Thanks for this explanation!

  • That music... is that from Sonic the hedgehog?

  • @nyarlotep OMG that's what I said, lololol XD I think it's Sky Hill zone or something from Sonic 2?

  • I have just watched a few of your videos. I have to say great channel, subbed!

But I have a stupid question: Being a biologist, how much does it piss you off watching this whole debate in america between creationism and science. AS IF there is a place in science for creationism! Look up 'atheist's worst nightmare banana' that should be a chuckle!

  • @CircusOfBedlam To be honest I just don't get it. The first time I have ever heard of one was on youtube because as you know we don't really have creationists in the UK. I know recently a creationists museum has opened "DAR SARTH" but every one who goes is doing it for the lolz. I have seen the banana man/crocoduck guy before and it did not make me angry. It just makes me confused that someone who clearly knows nothing about the subject would want to embarrass themselves to the world like that.

  • @CircusOfBedlam

"AS IF there is a place in science for creationism"

You make it sound asif the idea of other life creating us is so impossible. The option of ID should always be considered a possibility by any honest scientist.

  • @TheColaGoodfellow why should it? if the evidence points towards it maybe (but it doesnt) but even if life on earth was created by other life elsewhere, we still havnt answered the question as to how life arose, your just pushing the statement back a step

  • I wanna beat down that faggot fucking creationist, what an ugly whiny little bitch.

  • @kyebean Actually, Creationists have the right idea buddy...Cept that guy wasn't really doing a very good job explaining hi end, lol

  • @SylphViper what "right idea" is that?

  • @kyebean The idea that God is the creator of the universe and all it's complexity in its entirety. What else?

  • @SylphViper @SylphViper That's actually one of the dumbest ideas in the history of humanity, but before I explain all that to you, why don't you tell me what you mean by "God"?

  • @kyebean Of course, you would consider it dumb, because you're brainwashed, but that's not my problem. As for God, I mean an omnipotent, omnipresent, all knowing, all powerful God. Holy, untainted, eternal.

  • @SylphViper How am I brainwashed? How do you know that "God" even exists let alone know anything about it?

  • @kyebean You are brainwashed/naive/or ignorant because you believe in a religion that teaches that design comes from non-intelligence, intelligence comes from non-intelligence, and that the laws of physics and the universe don't actually apply to evolution.| How can God NOT exist? To suggest that the world with all its diversity, complexity, and DESIGN came from NOTHING is plainly idiotic...There's no other way to put it. Design requires a designer.

  • @SylphViper I'm an atheist so I'm not part of any religion, but I'd be interested to hear how you claim to know my beliefs and how they fit the definition of religion. How are you defining "design"? For instance, do you think snowflakes are designed? Because they are clearly formed by natural processes. Why can't intelligence come from non intelligence? Blue comes from non-blue, rocks come from non-rocks, I could go on. Of course natural laws apply to evolution.

  • @kyebean Do snowflakes breathe? No. Can snowflakes think? No. Do they show any complexity other than their inherent symmetry? No.So why assume that they are designed? Please tell me. Now, as for DNA, it contains over 2 Gigabytes of raw data alone, creating structures that not even the world's leading supercomputers can compare to. So we should assume it was a MISTAKE? An ACCIDENT? Oh, sure! Yeah, okay. That's science.

    NOT!

Evolution is bullcrap, not science. It's a religion, not mathematics.

  • @SylphViper Does a circle drawn in the sand breathe? does it think? is it complex? of course not, that's not an argument against it being designed. Again your straw men are not impressive to me, No intelligent person is suggesting that evolution is a mistake an accident or anything to do with mathematics. That just reveals extreme dishonesty or ignorance on your part. Define religion and justify how evolution fits it.

  • @SylphViper "How can God not exist?" the same way Bob the celestial gorilla can not exist, I just made it up. No one, including me is suggesting that anything "came from nothing" that is the most pathetic cliche straw man bullshit out there, please just stop it. Cosmology, Physics, Biology, Astronomy, Geology, etc. offer fantastically detailed and accurate explanations for the history of "the world". Is there any evidence that nature is designed other than that it looks that way to you?

  • @kyebean I don't believe in a celestial gorrilla for the same reasons that you don't believe that Bill Gates employs random number generators to create his software.

  • @SylphViper What are those reasons? and are they also the reasons you do not believe in unicorns? (I hope)

  • @kyebean No DUH you made up the celestial gorilla. That was my whole point. Obviously, you're not paying very much attention. If you actually studied mathematics, you would understand that the probability of generating the entire DNA code strand in one shot is astronomical. That means, in plain English, IMPOSSIBLE. The THEORIES you believe to be facts are nothing but bs science. If you can't see the impossibilities and flaws in those theories, you're clearly brainwashed.

  • @SylphViper DUH some 3,000 year old hermits made up "God" after eating a funny cactus. Who said "the DNA code was generated in one shot"? Some farmers called, they want their straw men back. A scientific theory is a collective explanation of facts, it doesn't make sense to compare the two. Even if I was the one in this conversation talking complete bullshit and making no sense, that wouldn't mean I was brainwashed, just as you may not be brainwashed. It's quite possible you're just very stupid.

  • @kyebean Either you're a complete idiot, or you're brainwashed. Data and design does not arise from NON-intelligence, PERIOD. This is FACT. Evolution is neither observable nor testable within the laboratory environment, which automatically makes it a RELIGION, not SCIENCE. This is fact. If you can't see that, I pity you, because you're missin' out man.

  • @SylphViper I assume you would consider some rocks arranged on the ground in letters to be "data and design", but the rocks themselves are not data or design, to an animal they are just rocks. Data and design are abstract concepts of our invention, they are not part of the physical world. We can use the analogy of design and a designer when referring to natural selection, however it is nothing but analogy and illusion, it's simply chemistry conforming to it's environment.

  • @kyebean And books write themselves. And the Apple I-pad just magically sprouted into existence without a designer. Of course. Look, if you can't see the DESIGN and FUNCTION present in DNA and the entire human body(let alone the entire universe) you're a fool. Literally. Or else, your letting someone else feed you nonsense, and you buy it like a little sheeple who doesn't know better. Study up on real science, then try putting the puzzle pieces together.

  • @SylphViper your books and ipad statements are just more pathetic straw men, you really know how to pack those into a comment. Number 1 creationist argument: "if you don't see things the way I do, you're a fool" wow, how scientific of you. I can obviously see function in life and you could say that natural selection "designs" life, it's not very accurate, but it's ok as an analogy. However, if you try to use that as evidence for a deity, it's nothing but an argument from ignorance.

  • @kyebean Again, this isn't a matter of assumptions. This is a matter of having actual scientific proof, and using the scientific method. If you aren't willing to use those on the THEORY of evolution, then you clearly aren't into science or truth. Again, study up on REAL science, child.

  • @SylphViper You do know that scientific definition of the word "theory" is different from the colloquial sense of the word? from that I can tell you clearly aren't into science or truth :P

  • @powerm1985 I don't need a scientist to tell me what a theory is. And I'm not interested in wordplay either. Theory is not fact, period. I rest my case.

  • @SylphViper Modern evolutionary synthesis is one of the greatest examples of scientific proof and the success of the scientific method, of course those tools are applied to it. No one is claiming that theory is fact, I just stated the opposite. You've got to be running out of straw by now. Rather than resting your non-existent case, I suggest you rest your brain, it seems to be overheating.

  • @kyebean Actually, yes, people are claiming that theory is fact. One theory in particular. And it's being taught in schools as FACT. So please, wake up. As for the evolutionary theory, yes, it's complete bull-crap that has yet to pass the scientific method. So if you'll excuse me, I have some actual science to study up on. Please, wake up. For real.

  • @SylphViper The change in allele frequency over time is a fact. Specification is a fact. There are many other evolutionary facts that are best explained by the modern theory of evolution with common descent. That is what is being taught in schools. If you understand the evidence that is put forth for evolution and the scientific method, than saying it hasn't passed is a statement of extreme dishonesty or stupidity. I'm guessing that your objection is not based on science but rather religion.

  • @kyebean And I'm assuming that you're obsessed with the religion known as Evolution and have yet to actually study true science. I could go on and on about how the evolutionary theory is flawed, show you a multitude of evidence proving that the complexity and design in the universe is present because of GOD, but you STILL wouldn't listen, because you already believe in your heart that evolution is FACT, yet don't study real science. Until you study REAL science, you'll be stuck in your religion.

  • @SylphViper I've already asked you twice to justify your claim by defining "religion" and explaining how evolution fits it and you've ignored the question both times. I guarantee I am more knowledgeable in science than you. Please DO go on and show me your evidence because that's what I actually care about, not your parades of straw men and psychological projection. I don't believe anything in my heart, it's busy pumping blood.

  • @kyebean If you were actually concerned with evidence and actual facts, you wouldn't have even bothered to reply. Again, all I have to say to you is to study up on real science. I don't have time for this.

  • @SylphViper haha congrats on the lamest retreat from a discussion I've heard in a long time.

  • @kyebean Haha, I don't really care if you call it a retreat. There's no point in arguing with someone who's clearly brainwashed and doesn't even understand the fundamentals of his own beliefs, nor comes the those conclusions based on logical deduction and scientific facts. I really don't have time to deal with you. Again, study up on real science, instead of listening to a bunch of wack-jobs who can't even tell the difference between micro and macro evolution off the top of their heads.

  • @SylphViper of course all the claims you're making about me, I and most people (including the entire scientific community, BTW) would say apply much more to you. And from that perspective I can tell you that I argue with people like that, because they need to be challenged and just maybe they or somebody else might learn something from it. The creationist concept of micro/macro evolution is usually based on the "idea" of kinds, if you're going to talk about it, you need to define "kinds".

  • @kyebean Cool story bro.

  • @SylphViper I'm not your bro. Don't start things you can't finish.

  • I only just discovered your channel. Awesome stuff! Also you're just the type of person I need to talk to about some questions I have about DNA/RNA and stuff xD

  • Hey Myles, every time I heard that guy speak all I was hearing was: HERRRP- DERP-DERP-DERP-DERP-DERP-DERP-DERP-DERP-DERP!

  • We have hardened our hearts to religion, Randall Niles has hardened his heart to logic and science.

  • Another person pointed your way from C0nc0rdance.

I suck at chemistry, but follow the gist of your videos (I think). It is always useful to have this sort of material on here for those of us trying to keep the religious fundamentalist types in check.

The background music is OK, I think, but possibly try some videos without it. It makes the video more lively, of course, but is that going to help with your intended "demographic"?

  • your videos kick ass

  • thumbs up for sonic the hedgehog music

  • *shudder* RNase. A guy I used to work with would go through a box and a half of glovesand would refuse to talk whenever he was doing an RNA extraction. It makes you so paranoid, in your hair, on your skin, breathing it all over your experiment, what if the person next to you at the bench doesn't clean up properly? *shudder*

  • Please remove that noise in the background, it's distracting.

  • holy shit sonic 2 music!!! :DDD

  • That electronic music in the background is rather annoying to me, also distracts from your voice.

  • Everyone should check out The Teaching Company's DVD course "Origins of Life" at teach12. com. It shows how hard the problem is and how much amazing work has been done to figure it out. They just ignore the magic hypothesis and keep looking for a natural cause.

  • Good stuff.

  • Just learning about transcription and translation in Biology A2. I must say you do make a dry topic (as it's taught in class) more interesting. I like how i'm understanding most of your videos now.

We also had a debate about homeopathy and your video gave me a lot of good arguments for it. Keep up the good work! :D

  • Very nice vid.

    C0nc0rdance sent me.

    Keep up the great work.

  • Excellent work, really. I'm currently studying Physics at University myself, but I've always had a passion for Biology & Chemistry, too. I really enjoy your work, I've seen a few of your videos so far. Really, well done. Subscribed.

  • I was taught that Organic compounds are one's that contain C-H bonds, not just Carbon.

  • It blows my freaking mind that this guy can say, seemingly seriously, that you should take something as authority just because "some scientists on youtube said it". In what insane world does youtube have a damn thing to do with the way academic research (other than, say, research into youtube and other similar social phenomena) is done?

  • rock

  • Haha so basically at 8:58 that Niles fuck made a chicken and egg error?

  • Hill top zone's music will be following me all day now, and great vid. C0nc0rdance sent me, subbed :)

  • lulz sonic 2 music in the background.. Hill top zone i belive.. Anyways love the style you approche the subjects on and the graphical visual make it a joy to watch.

  • Ahaha. I watch Husky too. He was the first video-game related commentator I liked and from him I've gone to Day9, TotalBiscuit, and the Yogscast :P

  • Can I hear Sonic the Hedgehog?

I think he got his chicken and egg quote from a Watchtower magazine. One can only hope Randalls audience will research Abiogenesis.

  • Awesome video. You've got yourself another subscriber :P

P.s. Keep the cheesy music in!

  • Oh and his "chicken and the egg" thing is such utter bullshit! We've seen proteins form independent from RNA. We've even found amino acids in space!

  • I like your general style and you obviously have a lot of knowledge in biochemistry. However the audio needs to be cleaned up. It's pretty distracting.

  • @JRChadwick WOW!!!!! I cant believe that you took the time to watch rate and comment on my vid. You have made my day sir. Thanx for the feed back ill try and get rid of the humming and make the background music less anoying. My next vid is on the Miller–Urey experiment and I am actualy going to talk about organic compounds in space.

    All the best

    Myles :)

  • @JRChadwick I agree.

  • Great video dude. Do you know anything about clay theory? (check "originoflife" "dot" "net") It's my favorite take on abiogenesis. (I do mean favorite simply because I like it) But unfortunately I know bugger all about chemisty, chose physics instead ... ):

    Keep up the good work.

  • @Danmill23 hey, thanx for the kind words I have heard of clay thepry before but not really looked into it. Im kinda booked up for the next 2 vids Im going to make but maby the one after I could take a gander. thanx again Myles :)
