If you looked closely to both the costumes you mentioned the female monk and mistress of pain are WAY closer to the REAL video game characters. Their attention to detail won that contest for them. Sure Illidan's wings opened and closed and Kelthuzad was nice (but very cartoony) but the judge were for what looked the OVER ALL costume and the DETAILS involved.
