It's all true. Stayed in Villefranche-sur-mer for a week. It's not expensive. $850 rnd trip flight from USA, into Nice. $100 a night for a hotel room. Food as expensive as you choose. Transportation is cheap to Provence or Monte Carlo or into Italy. Just do it, you will love it. Holiday apartments are also available for 2 or more.
The other nice thing about Villefranche is that the bay is big enough to keep its waters milder than anywhere else on the coast so it's a good spot to go swimming even in the winter (quite a bit warmer than in Nice for instance!)
I love Villefranche, and even though those Rothchild gardens look great to me, the best part of the village, other than the Mediterranean itself and the lovely port, in my opinion was the Chapelle Saint-Pierre, redecorated by Jean Cocteau for his friends, the local fishermen. I also love the Rue Obscure and wandering through the narrow streets. My French cousin took me to dinner once at one of the charming port restaurants to celebrate 40 years ago.
home ! i m living in a busy north east american city right now ... but i m excited to go back home for summer.

Nice. Gave me the feel of what it would be like. I dream of going one day to the French Riviera!

Fascinating history. Beautiful video. I've read about the 'Rothschild' name. What a mansion! Thanks for this beautiful video.
