WOW. Someone in my jr. high school said the same thing to me. once i came back from my suspension (LOL) I had to have a talk with him. I just don't understand why some people don't GET Black History Month. BET is irrelevant and I dont watch it either, but as far as BHM, people like that will never understand why until they are in our shoes. It's ridiculous that it's like that, but it is. She needs to realize that one month out of the year is nothing compared to 11 months that we r ignored

My personal belief is that no one month should be set aside for one particular race. ALL History should be tought in school, but as you said, black history wouldn't be unless it was forced and thats a shame. I would just like to give you kudos for representing AA women in a classy manner. I do have to defend BET though. You can tell that you do not watch BET and your lack of knowledge is evident with how you speak upon it. BET just recently debut an annual show called BET HONORS which recognizes the accomplishments of distinguished AA. In that sense, BET is not just a station which glorifies AA stereotypes, but indeed is trying to make a mark for AAs in general and encourage AAs in a positive sense.

Do some research into the history of Italians in 20th century america, we weren't welcome here, in fact some of the immigration laws were specifically written to restrict immigration from Italy. Current pop culture is still rife with italian-american stereotypes that would cause protests and boycotts if they were done with any other minority group. American history in high school including blacks was slavery reduced to two paragraphs during the building of our nation and the African American experience being one chapter shoved towards the back of the textbook.
