@justaman6972 What keeps you free isn't your gun, it is the mutual recognition of each others liberty and rights throughout the government and military. The bravery of unarmed citizens standing up to their government is far greater than any armed person doing the same. Either armed or unarmed- the will to refuse to do something at the price of death is courage at it's peak. THAT is worth more than any amendment to a piece of paper.

Nazi camps, Soviet gulags, Killing fields of Cambodia, Syrian protestors, Tienamen square student uprising, all examples of the countless tyranny and treachery foisted upon a defenseless populace. We have the 1st amendment to issue our demands and should diplomacy be ignored we have the 2nd amendment being armed to enforce our demands. Pax aut bellum

Like to see your rifle stand up to an apache helicopter if it was hovering above your neighbourhood, or an armoured vehicle if it rolled down your street. Or that nuclear weapon if your city got too rebellious. The British are free, and we aren't armed. I would know I was one and a former Deputy Sheriff. Brits free? 1 cctv cam for every 14 slaves. @justaman6972 Your constitution is just a piece of paper. Your constitution could say everybody had to eat eggs for breakfast, would that be followed?- no. Or if it did happen, who would enforce it? That's right- the state. The same state that you just claimed couldn't force you to do anything because you are 'armed'. Your constitution has been changed, and can be changed. Hence why it is essentially meaningless. It is the ideal that keeps you free. You just proved my point.
