  • I am weird. I like this.

  • Excellent talk though friend

  • "Hebrew, Russian, whatever Tibetans speak...prolly Tibetan"

I almost choked on my water you dick =D

  • ...welcome back to History Channel's special on Chinese Philosophy: All my pixles

  • No offence Joe, but you don't do this well..though it does work to get me to sleep. Stick to Minecraft...pleeeeease

  • I want to see more daoist philosophy in a hostile series.

  • I really like this :D

  • Dude, this theory stuff is awesome.

  • @TheBallTongue Glad you're enjoying it!

  • I have a copy of the tao te ching in my room, and there are two great books about taoism called the tao of pooh and the te of piglet.

  • I can't wait to see the rest! Brilliant combination.

  • I love the way you say Dao. "Dayoou"

  • I appreciate your willingness to share the eternal name and the indescribable entity that we perceive as JoeHillsTSD.

  • Basically, there is a direct relationship between knowledge and the knowledge of un-knowledge. Thus, you grab a being with infinite knowledge and ask them what they know; they reply, "I know nothing." (And now I've written that word so many times it looks like I misspelled it.)

...Then my dad told me to get used to it, because I'm only going to learn more about how much I don't know from here on out! *shakes fist*

  • @0hushpiper0 Or you can look at it as learning more about what you thought you previously knew :) Even if it's a full 180, it's still learning as long as you continue to explore it.

  • At one point over the holidays, I was ranting to my dad about how much information there is out there that I don't know, and will never have time to learn. (Yes, I'm a geek, shush.) He replied that this is a good sign, since he'd observed that the more knowledge one acquires, the more one is confronted with the limits of one's knowledge; certainly fools believe that they know everything there is to know. My awareness of my utter idiocy shows that I actually have a high level of understanding. ;)

  • I thought it was spelled Tao (pronounced dao)

  • Fascinating. I haven't heard of the "Dao de Jing" before, although I did pick up a copy of the Bhagavad Gita from a travelling monk in the summer.

  • I like your videos but this was rather boring, not something most people are going to continue to watch

  • Hi Joe, as much as I love your videos, I did find this rather boring. There are some out there that enjoy this, but it's not my cup of shredded seagull. That's just my two cents.

  • i will only watch this in the morning

  • Go to school and become a person

  • ok joe i have seen evryone of your movies from the start of legendary and i found that it was a fun experience. but this....... i did not enjoy this there is perople out there that may have enjoyed this but i did not you wanted my opinion go back to doing adventure maps there is a good one that.....is not made by vechs.

  • You should be a philosophy teacher!

  • Very good job Joe I've been asking for days where your videos were and i am now very pleased to have more Joe.

    Your Buddy

    sRx_ELiTe

  • FINISH IT! (Sorry obsessed with china and japan have a thing for them I. LOVE. THEM. WITH. A. PASSION.)

  • I have to say, closing my eyes and listening to this was a great experience. I hope you do more like this.

    Boom, subbed

    Boom, liked

  • I think it's rather interesting; and pretty original. Keep it up, Joe.

  • Wow. What a thought provoking new series. I love it! I can't wait for more! Keep it up Joe!

  • Hey Joe, I just realized at the end of the video that the reason you wanted us to ponder while looking upon that precariously placed home was that you wanted us to think about the Dao. For instance, can that house be completely described? No, it is impossible to fully understand the house due to our limitation of knowledge. That's what it was, wasn't it?? :D

  • You never cease to surprise me, Joe. Well done.

  • Not my cup of tea, but if you like it and it makes you happy... go for it. There will certainly be viewers out there for this sort of thing.

  • of course made by veches

  • @suemeejim715 lol it is actually spelled Vechz but I don't blame you for Veches (Whic he hates being called)

  • no more adventure :(

  • @Aynosuke More adventures when another Super Hostile Map comes out.

  • @JoeHillsTSD Why limit yourself to SH maps! You're most entertaining when being challenged =)

  • @JoeHillsTSD Maybe try a CTM map by another map-maker?

  • Interesting idea. I have to say, if it's just philosophy, I would probably stop watching fairly soon, but that's just me. I still love your commentation and wit despite the topic.

  • Sorry Joe, I Kant keep up with this. Could you do chapter review sort of thing at the end of each chapter?

  • I need a dictionary every forty seconds when I watch your videos

  • so vechs made this map? because i have a world with a ridiculously large ocean on it... while watching youtube videos i sailed about 30,000 blocks (it took about a week)

  • @Havoc2357 If I remember correctly, I believe he is doing this on Sunburn Islands.

  • @summit076 It's a custom map Vechs made just for this series so I can sail for a long time.

  • Dao De Jing 101 with Joe Hills :D

  • Sweet, I love philosophy.. thanks Joe.

  • Jesus Joe, that´s deep!

You´re good at this stuff, just as MrColtux is good at mathmetics! =D

  • Dont know if you read all comments but I was wondering if theres anyway I can contact vex. Please me know. Thanks

  • ehh, reminded me too much of school

  • Throughout your videos, you've always show yourself to be more intelligent than your goofy demeanor might suggest. I'll definitely be tuning in next week to listen to your musings on philosophy.

  • Joe, you are truly a gentleman and a scholar. Please continue this series.

  • This new series of yours is breath of fresh air in Minecraft videos. The whole reason I have kept watching you is due to the fact that you always have something interesting to remark on (even if your talking distracts you from your gameplay and vice versa, which makes this even better because you don't have to worry about combat)

P.S. I would love to hear your thoughts on John Stuart Mill; I think that his writings have great insight into our own culture and how we should act as individuals.

  • Joe, this is quite good. I find it a good companion to your CTM campaigns, something to buffer you against the horror of a Vechz map.

  • I do philosophy at university, so i now have a legit reason to watch you.

  • A suggestion: The MAtmos mod might well complement this nicely with some ambient sounds. Especially during the 'meditation' session, which I found to be a little offputtingly silent.

  • Looking forward to the continuation of this series, as I will most definitely be watching it.

  • Nice, Joe! You may want to explain what the Tao is, for your viewers that may not know. Looking forward to more of these. :)

  • Id also like to hear your thoughts on plato and his concept of the forms...

  • YOu need to do more of these...

  • I like how you ended your speech with "darkness," and you were in murky swamp water. Anyways, thanks for uploading this. This is going to be a really interesting series, and I'm interested to see how this will go.

  • Comment removed

  • quoting oprah "THIS... IS...HUGE!"

  • This is really cool! Some of your insights are kind of hard to understand but interesting nevertheless. I liked your horizon metaphor because it kept me from getting lost in the analysis (which gets a little esoteric).

  • I can kind of get it. here's a saying (i don't know who wrote it) Everyone has two names. One to be called by and the other name is the spirital bondage of nature which describes who the person/s is and their character.

  • I like this.

  • What is the main idea of the Dao de Jing?

  • Are you gonna explore some of the islands? The last one seems like a perfect place to ascend a spiraling staircase and end up in a fancy, plateau top home where you would don a red, fuzzy bathrobe and start puffing on a pipe that only lets out bubbles instead of containing any kind of tobacco.

  • Hebrew <3 love you Joe

    from Israel

  • I can imagine watching this while stoned would be one hell of a ride.

  • Minecraft + Philosophy + Joe Hills = :D

  • @MrColtux Joe Hills = Minecraft. Nuff said.

  • Yay, no more waiting in anticipation for knowing the next map

  • I just had my dose of culture, thanks ^_^

  • Also, the last part of the first Chapter concerns the duality and non-duality of Tao. It's the whole "all things are one, yet many" idea. The Many (the named) and the One (the Unnamed) can be switched between like "forest and the trees", or one of those optical illusions that flips back and forth.

  • Love the Tao Te Ching, and you chose a good translation. My personal favorite is the one by Lin Yu-Tang, but it's such an old one that I doubt you can find it online. It was my starting point when I reached out beyond the religious traditions I was brought up in.

  • exactly how big is that ocean? 0.0

this is interesting...but made my head hurt D:

i hope vechs decided to place a flying piggy somewhere in the map.....

  • Joe,

Impressive. This is a highly original idea, and I love it. Can't wait to see future episodes!

    -Michael

  • ha, a peaceful video after all those adventures. Or is it ....

  • such a badass <:

  • Would be cool if he got mo' creatures on this series. dolphiiinnnnnnzzzzzz :D

  • I'm confused...

  • I can't truthfully say I knew what you were talking about, but I'm definitely going to look up this Dao De Jing thing after writing this. I may have more to say next time though.

  • i tried to watch this but then i felt like i was gonna learn something so i stopped :p

  • @totalfanboy88 He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that.

    ~John Stuart Mill

  • Joe, in every video i wonder were your recording it. and at the start of the video i always get my answer.

  • Joe Hills is incredibly boss.

  • Auto Like Cause I know this is going to be good! XD

  • This is going to make me so happy, I love your videos.

  • yay

  • First! :D
