  • Someone needs to actually take this song and mix it with Hello Dolly by Louis Armstrong.

  • This creeped me out.

  • Klasyka awangardy :)

  • MOIRA SCAR!

  • I MUST KNOW WHAT SKINNY SAW.

  • Hello, Dali

  • I randomly decided to thumb through my parents records which mostly consists of Shostakovich, Herb Alpert, and Elvis Costello. To my suprise I found Hello Dolly by Louis Armstrong. Are any of you truck drivers?

  • An ex girlfriend of mine used to listen to this years ago when depressed. She would sit in her dark, damp, spidery bedroom with this playing or "Lizard Lady" whilst trying to grow hair out of her nostrils.

  • Helloooooooooo Dolly.

  • It's so surreal and scary David Lynch could have made it!

  • c'mon Edwina

  • classic!

  • The Residents have been haunting my dreams ever since I heard them on the radio, I looked them up and I always see a figure with an eyeball mask in my dreams. Their music isn't just records, it's the freaking feeling you get from thinking about them. Very cool, not my kind of music, but way too damn cool. (applauds)

  • this is not just "music", there are sensations, a spirit, feelings just the residents can raise inside here

  • you think these guys hung out with david lynch?

  • the residents reminds me of a david lynch film: -you don't know whats really actually happening but you know it's happening. -well since I put it that way they both remind me of an LSD trip.

  • always liked the primus, heard of residents, that was a new experience, very weird, not in a bad way, time will tell whether i'll like this band.... currently undetermined...

  • is.. the end about the gift of being real?

  • Comment removed

  • @MorbidBliss22 loser = weed

  • @MrMeddled

You are fucking delusional. "Creativity?" They just rehash old RnB tunes, da fuck are you talking about?

"soundtrack?" Yea, soundtrack on how to be complete failures hiding under eyeballs.

Some one teach these cretins how to play instuments...please?

  • @7Beyonder I've seen your channel and you listen to the most bad taste music ever. Your opinion is like a fart into a church.

  • so the skinny guy is a member of the Residents?

No wonder they hide their faces...sheesh.

    Just crap.

  • @7Beyonder The main fact here being that no one, and I mean no one cares about what idiotic people like you think. Just face it, an impressive amount of famous musicians sing the praises of the residents, while you, my dear, are nothing but a judgemental ignorant. Slay what you can't understand is a common motto for your kind.

  • @taniaowatatsumi

LOL..no one cares, but you took the time to respond....whatta doofus. .Maybe the others are smarter than you. They didnt respond....

  • i'm desesperately searching for the icky flix dvd download, anyone has a link? i can't buy it from amazon since they won't ship it to where i live.

  • Compare with "Neptune" from Holst.

  • The Residents are America's Shadow to the Grateful Dead.

  • That's not as simple as a perfect song and video: that's scary...

  • weird. I love the primus cover of this song though.

  • I'm waiting for the day when I go to a pub, and it's just me and an odd skinny man on the other side of the room. Eventually I'll notice the way he's made constant eye contact with me since I entered. Eventually it'll be all too much and I'll have to down my pint of Tim Taylor's and ask him what his purpose is. Upon which he'll reply 'I am Skinny of Residents fame.' Before disappearing mysteriously into the November fog to this music.

    Some day, it will happen.

  • @OliTheShayman that's not how it's going tto happen.. first skinny wil bum a cigarette and if you give him one he'll ask for another before the first is even lit.. then he'll try to bum a beer and some more smokes, maybe even some change, after wich he disappears into the night leaving behind nothing but a bit of lost smoke..

  • It seems odd to me that the first time I got high was also the first time I heard The Residents. That was 1979. Does that seem odd to anyone else?

  • @electricfoot The Jungians would call that synchronicity- meaningful coincidence.

  • I've seen The Residents twice now in the past couple of years or so. I can't believe I get to see them open for Primus on 12/30. Primus got me into The Residents, but both of them on the same night is going to be so insane.

  • this makes me uncomfortable which is how I know it's good art. respect!

  • David Lynch + The Residents give people nightmares :(

  • Wonderfull!!! Long life to the masters... long life to the N. Senada´s childrens!!!

  • haha same as me. i also started with dug stab. really addictive music. already three days in their ban

  • when it starts singin "Hello Dolly" i... get scared speechless o.o

  • Primus made it better :0

  • hello skinny, this is really baffling, the only no-way in the fall

  • I love primus and how they introduce their fans to other great and weird artists.

  • I love Primus, and I can tell that Les Claypool was a huge fan of this band. This band is one of my favorites now.

  • @LoSeRrOcKiNoN You know these guys are anynymous, no one knows who they are. . . maybe Les Claypool is in this band!!! Probably not, but one can only dream.

  • @skinnydoggyz That. Would. RULE.

  • @skinnydoggyz Considering that The Residents formed in 1969 and Les Claypool was born in 1963, probably not. But that would be really cool. :D

  • @skinnydoggyz Well the singer is called Homer Flynn and the keyboardguy is Hardy Fox, the rest are sessionmusicians;) No mistery at all (at least not for the last 25 years)

  • sounds like Primus

  • LukeKellylives opinion is void because he loves Sublime.

  • This song is obviously about methamphetamine... Born in a bathtub? Eye dropper? Selling something every single night? Not to mention all of the orange tipped hypodeemic nerdles at the end scattered about the bathtub. I have seen that crap destroy a lot of talented people in my town. Prison, death or festering skin lesions anyone? Song came out in '78. Maybe they saw something nobody else did way back?

  • @oinkst Yea...sorta like Resident fans....

  • @7Beyonder

Funny you should mention that. Woe to the children of these generations.

  • This put me in an awkward mood.

  • kinda creepy ?

  • i found the song..its called mark of the male..really awsome

  • im lookin for a song by the residents and cant seem to find it..is about shooting a gun again and again and again..lyrics somethin like that..can anyone help me out

  • @therevengeftw

You've probably found the song by now, but I believe you are talking about "Mark of the Male" off the album "Tweedles"

  • I've enjoyed the Residents since I was a little girl watching their VHS tapes with my father. Even now, we still own the VHS and have most of their CDs. I don't listen to it constantly, but I love their style and will always hold a special place in my heart for the weird little fuckers. Their songs and their mini-movie videos will always be in my collection.

  • awesomenessity

  • Skinny is a figment of what I could imagine one of my darkest nightmares could be

  • Freaky, scary and a so so so disturbing video and song! I love it :D

  • I want this song inside me

  • @D4MVP I want to have Skinny as my pet :D

  • The first video on the related list is "Overcome Anxiety & Fear". That HAS to be planned.

  • Pointless lyrics but a lot of fun.

  • that skinny dude gives me the creeps!!!

  • @MissTuffett

    Who is he?

  • Nicademus666 - you are right .

"music video " was a brand new idea back in the late 70's/early 80's.

Even some of the silliest and most banal seemed really crucial

and they were really . Video was a new technology ,new art medium . Even MYV was "interesting " at the time. The Residents were crusaders in art ,music and film .They are still at the top of the heap in my humble opinion.

  • uh, dathoit, this is from the mid/late-seventies... the Residents had only just produced the 3rd Reich-n-Roll before, which was the first "music video"...

  • There's always such debate about what's art and what isn't

It seems to me, some things are art, and some things try very hard to be art.

I s'pose sometimes art is something that you can take meaning away from yourself rather than be told "oh the little red bits mean this"

I usually don't have a very hard time telling those apart... for me the only difficulties are with art I don't particularly like and art that's a knockoff, can never tell for sure about those

In dunno, I'm not very eloquent...

  • I like this song. It's scary.

  • There are codes in allart .We can make meaning from agreed upon symbols and codes and structures.Teh great thing about contemporary art since wwIi is their are so many artists with their own systems and heirarchies art is now free from codified interpretation.form still rules basically but content s now free often to be categorized freely.Hollywood still uses the ols symbols.DaviD Lynch ,cronenberg,VonTrieretc have their own

  • hay nato, good call on this one!

I'd like to remind everyone that this is from the early 70's. its post dada, but if it was total crap we wouldn't be talking about it 40 years later.

    also to:

    peknoman

art only matters what it means to the VIEWER. if the artist could call the shots, I could jack off onto a chain saw and say it represented my hate of our national trade deficit. your work must evoke some (hopefully positive) reaction from the viewer.

  • lol at the 'i dont get this kinda art' comments. There's nowt to get man, the code's are subjective and can mean whatever you want it to mean, this is why when artists are like 'this song means..' I'm like bullshit! it means nowt before its placed in its social context haha

Its not that absurd. THe voice is annoying, maybe cause i've heard it being emulated by annoying buskers in my town?

  • artist are the only one to know the real meaning of their art. they decided each word, each sound, everything and each piece was put in direct rder to follow the idea of the artist. if you decide to give it another meaning it is free to you, but the only tue meaning of art is in the hand of its creator.

  • wow! what a load of bollocks, can you not see all the massive red flags in your wording? 'true' 'real' 'meaning' 'idea' 'art' 'decided' what do each of these mean? why do you assign so much importance to this cultural hierarchy? Fuck what the artist 'meant' its specific to each person and cant be anything else. Fuck i hate pretentious art.

  • for some art is a hard work that deserve respect, for other it is a stupid game.

  • But your reasons for valueing it as such seem completley arbitrary, 'stupid games' are worth just as much as 'hard work' in the sense of 'what you get out of it' saying one has value over the other is art elitism. Everything has its place, and pretentious art is at the bottom of my aesthetics pile haha, but thats only my opinion, i got no 'right' to tell you whats what.

  • This isn't pretentious art, they're not saying what they make is whatever whatever whatever. Other people are saying that on youtube. They just produced it, and hey it's somewhat out of the norm but it IS still art. I mean, I really enjoy it and I just discovered it a few days ago without any use of hard drugs.

  • Well why arent the band commenting on these videos? why dont they wanna share what they feel? its not really that wierd or 'out of the norm'

  • borders beyond the absurd... almost gets too precious halfway thru, but fixes the glitches by the end....Don't understand it but it's some sort of art

  • <3 it!

  • This song and video is what made me realize just how amazing the residents are GENIOUS!!!

  • this is sooo fu**ing creepe.. i'm scared O.o'

  • he looks like pee-wee herman

  • Res rock......my mind....

  • Great post! I still have the vinyl of

    The Commercial Album

  • KEEP MUSIC EVIL !

  • I confused

  • So, I listened to a couple of these songs, and this band isn't for me. Respect to what they do. I think they're talented. I just don't like this music.

  • fair enough.

it is clever but its weird.

    i like it though.

been around over 40 years now i think.

  • @LukeKellylives You are cool and you are not a dick, I hate those arrogant assholes who bash the music because they dont like it and mock the people who listen to it. Cheers to you my friend!!

  • @LukeKellylives well put, unique music takes many listenings to understand the best, if it doesn't appeal then don't waste your time.

  • @LukeKellylives Thanks for being 'spectful. The Residents are an earful and no mistake. I love them for their ferocity...then again I am a huge fan of Ives and Shostakovich. I'll save the easy listening for my sister.

  • @LukeKellylives I know that this is an old comment. But props for saying what so many can't. Just cause someone doesn't like something, doesn't make it bad or invalid. A lot of residents stuff is an act of experimentation and often it is less about being easy to listen to, and more about pushing boundries and new ideas (which isn't always GOOD, the atom bomb was a new idea too at one point ;P)

  • @LukeKellylives perfect analogy for the spinach cheese rolls my mother maid tonight, and like the residents my dog will appreciate the fueling satisfaction despite the unfavorable discomforting choice of ingredients.

  • Fantastic!

  • Awesome! Haven't seen this vid in over 10 yrs. Thanks for posting.

  • this song is about being on really powerful drugs. skinny lives in a bath tub. after you take barabituates you see skinny

  • hes the devil

  • I have a friend we call 'Skinny' it's funny because some of this song resembles him. :)

  • Comment removed

  • They are amazing. I saw them on halloween in SF in the early 90s and it was by far one of the trippiest concerts I have ever been to. Performance art at its finest.

  • Such a cool song/video.

  • My god these videos are so addicting

  • so you feel the same thing .....thnx really ....TABOULINOU

  • I was like 13 when I volunteered to work for KQED (PBS) in San Francisco off of Harrison. This was 1979 and it was several years before MTV came out. It was a time of very creative film making. The Residents had did a video with PBS (Or PBS Used their music). I painted some backdrops for the video which I believe was this song. I remember parking a police car in the south of market when I didnt even have a license (Which I thought was very cool) anyways I miss making videos at PBS.

  • i'm 22. how am i only realizing how amazing this band is now?

  • I´m 13. I realized it the first time I listen to them: When I was 12

  • AWESOME!

  • Thanks.

Do you know, why they gave me -2 thumbs for my commentar?

    Did I do anything wrong?

  • Listen don't even bother yourself with why some assholes gave you a - 2 (i gave ya +1) they probably can't grasp the residents ...and even more the fact that a joung guy actually enjoys listening and viewing their work ....in a nutshell = ya didn't do anything wrong , they suck ppl of course not the residents ....greets to you all RESIDENTS addicted so am I !!!! ....Taboulinou (Europe)

  • excellent! that's what i'm talking about,

it's like a parody to Armstrong's Hello Dolly, freaking f**king out!

  • That guy's my neighbor. He has 27 cats that live in an '83 Cutlass and needs to mow his lawn.

  • fucking faved

    5/5

  • Possibly the most creative American pop? band of all time, certainly the most unusual. I remember and seeing this video at the old 9:30 club in washington DC and being completely freaked out. Love these guys.

  • Sinister (exaggerators) !!

  • que mamadas????? the residents es una de las agrupaciones musical y visualmente de las mejores,,,desde 1968 llevan trabajando y cadavez son mejores los discos,,,,chequen el disco eskimo del 79 y el ultimo bunny boy

  • Now these guys are hands-down the weirdest band on the face of the Earth. So weird in fact, that they were impossible for me to ignore. After years of sitting on the fence over The Residents, I finally immersed myself in their music over the last couple of days, starting with "Duck Stab" and "Buster & Glen". Combined, those albums are about 30 minutes long, but I find myself playing it over and over again. I'm totally hooked on these guys, whoever they are! :D

  • I concur, indeed.

  • My favourite residents song is the cover they do of

    Hank Williams - Ramblin' Man

not sure it is on here tho :(

  • @Akira625 Ya. . . Beefheart is similar in that way.

  • Do yourself a favor and get Eskimo. Probably one of the weirdest and most brilliant albums they ever put out.

  • @jontadeu i can second that. just got "eskimo" last week and my brain is still dealing with it.

  • @steinber word, if you haven't already checked them out, some of my favorites are fingerprince vileness and commercial

  • @Akira625 you should really check into TuxedoMoon as well. Half Mute and Scream With A View are awesome

  • @Akira625 I agree that this band is grate, but it is not at all the weirdest bandon the face of the earth, I would even say that the resident are part of the main stream of expérimental music

  • @hammerhackers there is no mainstream experimental

  • @skinnydoggyz well yes, but that's not what I said, I said that they were part of the main stream OF experimental music (and not of music in general).

  • I remeber seeing this when it came out. It scared teh shot out of me. So far that reason i love it.

  • sure it is hipster stuff.not that im saying its bad at all.. its just that.. the residents are indeed part of the great underground music of the world... a big big part and inspiration for other bands

  • bowiefan is so.. damn...well words cant describe my anger.. what an ignorant.. mr bungle.. talk about hipster stuff hahaha

  • I don't think Mr. Bungle is anywhere near "hipster", and I'm in awe that someone who enjoys Mr. Bungle could find this boring.

  • Que mamadas son estas...

  • После просмотра клипа жить хочется!

  • WOW!

  • man.

    that was terrifying...

  • I made the terrible mistake of trying to watch this while mid psychedelic trip... absolutely terrifying.

  • Wow! I must try that one day!

  • Early Boredoms has a lot in common with Residents. All fantastic music.

  • CONTINUED....

Skinny sold a soldier to me

    Skinny sold a wife

    Skinny sold a suction cup

    And a knife

    Skinny found a Hello Dolly

    record in the hall

He sold it to a truck driver

    in the fall

    THANX FOR THE VIDEO...

  • Skinny was born in a bathtub

    And he grew so incredibly

Even the end of an eyedropper

    sucked him in

    Skinny never knew any questiong

Skinny never looked at the lights

    But Skinny sold something

    every single night

  • wow, claypool pulls off this singer's voice really well. I'm liking it :D

  • IS THIS FOR REAL?

  • yes hedcase, more real than you or EYE... the true Res fans will get the joke.

  • Okay. This is officially the scariest music video ever.

I love The Residents. So so much!

  • caroliner

  • The first twenty seconds are the best part, in my opinion

  • This is creepier than the Primus cover!

  • I call it "Schaurig Schön" (eerily beautiful..)

  • Oh Skinny, whatever will you sell next?

  • creepy..

  • WTF . i´ve been searching for music like this Band.

I allready have A band named Coil (Awesome too).

Can someone recommend me bands like this?

    Greetings . Thanks .

  • If your into odd music, a band you might like is Mr. Bungle, Mike Patton (Faith No More) is the lead singer, weird but good band!

  • Tuxedomoon are somewhat similar, try some of their earlier stuff

  • Goon Moon.

  • You might also wanna try Captain Beefheart. try his album "Trout Mask Replica", it's awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • any thing that has to do with les claypool or any bands he has to do with

  • umm primus is a weird band

    pink floyd is pretty weird

    buket head

  • they re killers,i saw them on 2008 tour..residents immortals

  • i want to see this guys live =/

  • The lyrics make the video... Love Duck Stab and saw the Residents several times. First time was their 13th Anniversary Tour. I was forever changed. I see them whenever I can.

  • I used to play Residents music on my Public Radio program... and I would grin and giggle like a naughty school boy when someone told me to "turn that shit off!"

    All kneel before the Residents....

  • Awesome... Anything between the Residents and GG Allin - I'll listen to it or die trying...

  • most likely not sadly hahahahahaha

  • I'm a big fan of both bands too. GG is the world's greatest shock rocker/performance artist in terms of sheer barbarism. But the Residents may be one of the most unusual bands in the world, even stranger than Zappa, Zorn or Beefheart.

  • zappa & beefheart are awesome

    but who is zorn?

  • John Zorn is a brilliant avant-garde jazz musician, check out his band Naked City.

  • Take the Jazz away. that music is nothing like Jazz.

  • oh ok thanks man

  • i've noticed that a lot of.. lets say strange folk such as us (i'm assuming) like the same artists. I'm also a fan of the three you listed. Are you a buckethead fan?

  • Buckethead is one of those bands I've heard mentioned numerous times, but have had very little exposure to. I have a feeling they'd be up my alley though.

  • Buckethead isn't a band, but it's just one dude.
