  • Who ever sells competition benches should also sell safety racks. The price is somewhere around $300 I suppose. If that's too pricey you can ask someone to weld them for you.

  • speed work is not 12 reps, 12 reps develop slow twitch fibres. Speed/power work is actually3-6 reps at submaximal weight in which the load is shifted ballistically

    this is anything but a speed bench. To be a speed bench the load needs to be moved explosively.

    This is not fast therefore is not recruiting fast twitch fibres which account for Speed!

  • I totally agree with megso3. Speed work should be around 50% of max. You can not have any lag in bar speed. I have seen 1000 lbs bench do it with less weight. Try it with less weight and see your result go up.

  • That is quite an empressive bench. You are strong no doubt. That isn't speed benching though. The bar isn't moving fastest enough to be speed work.

  • My thoughts exactly. When I do a speed work out I like to hit all three in maybe 5 seconds for a set of twelve. I wont say this isnt impressive either...but it's not speedy

  • a lot of the europeans are doing their speed work in full gear these days. Your right, its not the oldschool WSB speed work but according to a lot of strong mofos who have altered the speed work day, all that matters is that the bar travels faster than ME movements. Youll see a lot of the world champs doing this.

  • The plates at our gym are mostly rubber ones. The blue ones are 20 kilos / 44 lbs each and the red ones are 25 kilos / 55 lbs each. There are no 45 lbs plates in Finland since we have metric system. And yes, you are indeed supposed to lower the bar down fast when speed benching. In this particular video I'm in fact too slow, so this is kind of semi speed benching.

  • Its called a pause snap a technique I learned when when I competed in powerlifting to get a more explosive bench press. I lower the weight slow and try to make the plates jump as I press up fast. Its hard to get a good snap with that kind of weight though. To get a good snap with that, would take a bench strength of over 650 lbs.
