I have Kung Fu Panda 2 stuck in my iMac. Very shocked to watch this and realise that Macs hate this film. Sadly this method hasn't worked- yet. Drive keeps trying to eject every two minutes, and at least it gives up once this jam the door trick is done, then needs drutil to start it trying again.
BEFORE YOU TRY THIS, i had the exact same problem this guy had with the disc getting jammed in there. Go to terminal and type, 'drutil eject'. i did this and it realy shoved that stubborn little disc out of there
hey can you help me pls my itune it is malfunctioning and realize when i play vid from the internet it open by itself and starts to play all crazy and it very disturbing and annoying can u pls help me or wat you think i should do?
after trying everything else, this worked. I used a plastic fob that goes on a keychain, one of those doohickies stores give you so you don't have to use a credit card sized id. I think the secret is placing it in the right place, which this video shows quite well. It worked the first time. Thanks for posting this video!
I had this very same problem in my iMac, but I used another cd than any tool.
When trying to eject first time (and the cd inside won't come out) I just inserted another cd to block those "jaws" which prevents putting another disc inside.
Once the second cd was blocking those jaws getting closed, I just ejected the cd inside.
I think this way may be little bit "safer" or "simpler", no need to tear apart my mac :)
I haven't had the courage to insert a disc a full 100%, since it does not "slide in" when its like, half way through - like I expect it to. I have to push it all the way, is it meant to be like that? I just got me an iMac, you see, and I don't fully understand how this disc drive would work. If it's not meant to be done like that, I'll send it back to be repaired or something.
THANK you! My computer continued to read the DVD that was stuck in there, and everything else from surfing to iTunes was fine... but when you know there's a problem, you just can't relax until it is solved. How would I know why this or any other disc doesn't eject before putting it in?
I have a Dell Studio 17 (obviously not a Mac), however it has a slot loading drive similar to most Macs. After a couple of weeks of looking around I figured I'd try this, and it worked perfectly. Just wanted to note that this trick probably works with all slot-loading drives, not just Macs. Thanks for the help.
I've been trying to get this disc out for TWO DAYS, reading mac forums, scouring the internet, tape, turning my iMAC upside down, etc - I watch this video and two seconds later I've got my disc out. Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you! Thank you! THis did the trick after days of struggling with a stuck dvd
I didn't take the cover off. But found that spot you show in this video by feeling around with a dull knife towards the top inside of the drive. It kind of sticks out and you hit it just after you push the eject button.
Great idea. Gee wish i'd tried the obvious solution and not ripped my machine apart. Sadly in the real world that did not work hence this workaround. I did try but sadly if there is a mechanical fault a software (keypress) is not really going to cut it!
Thanks !!!! I had tired N ways to eject the DVD. And your work around worked on my imac. Apple support told me, they charge me for 200 USD (20000 Yen) for just taking the DVD out. Thanks again, great help
Man, you saved my evening, not sure why the dvd got stuck into it, it was one really important backup thing, I was able to remove it without harming anything and I was not electrocuted while doing it. I appreciate your helpful tip. You deserve nothing but good vibes on your life :)
This is standard 3rd party drive, at most this will deliver a 12 volt supply to the drive and very minimal risk of this being exposed on the casing of the drive. I agree that a plastic utensil would be a good idea, as I have comment on, a credit card does the same thing. But I don't think anyone should fear electric shock.
you're right let me rephrase it, if theres nothing else that works (for me restarting the computer and while its powering up click and hold down right mouse button until the disk ejects worked), and u have to resort to physically having to remove the disk, then this is a good video to use
Cheers for getting back. Yes I agree there are other options available, this was produced after all the Normal procedures failed and I had determined a physical intervention was required. Cheers
Since making this video I have found that using a smooth credit card works just as well and is less likely to scratch the surface of your disc. Good luck to everyone with fixing this problem.
If this is the first video that you looked up, STOP... dont try this yet, there is many other videos on you tube that show easier ways to get the cd out... try them firsts.
If there is a better video then at least share this with everyone, just making a blanket statement that there are better solutions helps no-one. I created this video because I could find nothing out there specific, so for me there was nothing I could find. If there is a better reference then for god sake give a link, then everyone can share in your insight!
Thank you, that solved my problem, it did take me 2 minutes before the dvd pop off, but my Imac just wont eject any DVDs, its pretty much broken i guess.
Thank you very much for this video, now i understand how the optical drive works when ejecting. One question i have, The only discs that get stuck in my imac are the ones that are getting burned. whenever i put in a regular cd or dvd it autmatically tries to eject it. Any reasons why? any solutions? Thanks
I would say its the disc normally as I have discs that work every time and some that don't. I think its down to the hole size but not something you want to mess about with!!!! Glad it helped.
I removed the CD from Intel Imac drive with credit card when turned power on. Just put credit card in the drive and carefully bend disc + turn power on. CD might come out but be aware that you might damage your drive! There are no quarantees :-/.
Wow. Great help. I am still having trouble though. It is not pushing the disc out after I hold down the plate. Do I have to lay the computer down like you did? Do I have to do this on the startup screen like you did? Thanks
Holy $hi! this totally worked! THANK YOU!!!

Works even on an iMac with no OS installed.
Use a plastic credit card to avoid electric shock though....

Thanks a lot.
I used an old credit card, followed your instructions and now the disc is out.
Six months ago I took my machine to Apple and they pulled another disc for me. Walgreen's picture disc's do not eject at all.
It think the printed surface of the disc surface is too smooth.
None of my heaver printed disc's have this problem.
I learned something actually useful today.
Thanks again.

I used to work for Apple IT Help - this mortified me when someone first told me the disk had stuck.
Only thing I'd say about your great work around is to use a plastic utensil, in case of electric shock.
I don't work at Apple any more so no one ask for IT Help!
(unlike some people I WAS actually some help when I did work there!! hehe but I can't remember anything now)
