FUNNY! Joe Claussell one of the legendary soulful house DJs but sometimes he drives me nuts playing with the EQ, but that's his signature. JOE IS THE SHOW when he plays. He reminds me of an old skool hip hop DJ from NYC-- anybody remember DJ Hollywood? Well Hollywood and Claussell are cut from the same cloth but in different genres of music. Joe is entertaining but for me sometimes the music should be the show ala Larry Levan or Timmy Regisford. No knock on Joe he's 1 of the best.
I used the mid filter with one hand and bass with the other, on a djm400 Pioneer mixer. Pioneer's current line eq is quite effective and will filter the whole band - if you turn down all the 3 eq pots, you only hear silence, and the fx sound decently similar to a real filter.
Sometimes I also use a customized 92 filter on Traktor, assigned to a rotary pot or Stanton touch surface. But I prefer the old analog feel of a Dope real or similar hardware filter, it acts much faster...
