From 1979 - 1985 Larry Bird was the greatest all - around player that ever lived. During these years Larry won 3 MVPs and the Celtics won 3 NBA titles. During these years Larry was healthy and there was no question who was the greatest player in the game. After this period Larry began suffering from chronic injuries, mainly back and achilles/foot problems. He was still a great player and an all-star but never quite the same again.

I am 40 and a girl but I loved the Celtics and Larry Bird. There will never be an all around team player like him. He shot his baskets, but he also could pass without looking and his teammates learned quick to be on the outlook for anything with that. He rebounded, he recovered loose balls, he blocked shots. He had many triple double games. I even would stay up to 3am watching the games on the westcoast on satellite.
