I was glued to the tv during these games...and I remember this one in particular, as I was horrified (as a Laker fan) to see Bird's shot at the buzzer--I was sure it would swish the net. Those years it seemed to me the NBA was perfect--Magic and Bird, with Chick (and a worthy sidekick) calling it. As the years have gone by, any real Laker fan can't help appreciate how good these freaking Celtics were too--and honestly, I always hoped they would break a leg; Glad my wishes never came true.

7 of the 10 Players in the Baby Skyhook play are Hall of Famers with the other 3 future HOF. Boston : Byrd, Parrish, Mchale and most recent Dennis Johnson. (Danny Ainge will eventually be a HOF) Lakers : Kareem, Magic, Worthy. (Cooper and Byron Scott will eventually be HOF) These two Teams were Amazing. I miss the 80s teams.

Magic took a semi difficult shot with Parrish Mchale and Bird converging on him. He very easily could have passed it to Kareem who had a clear path to the basket for a slam dunk. Magic took the shot to solidify that this was his team and that he was going to take the final shot win or lose. Kareem had his chance on the previous possession when he took that crappy awkward hook and was bailed out on a foul call. In any case, this game erased Magics choke in the 84 finals and cemented his legacy.

God bless you for posting this. I have the best memories as a kid growing up in LA listening to Chick Hearn. We would turn the sound down on the TV and put on the radio just to hear Chickie baby call the game. RIP Chick!

I'm glad people get to recognize how great Worthy was w/ this video. Worthy was my favorite player growing up and I patterned my game after his. He could play w/ his back to the basket or facing and go right or left w/ that explosive first step. He also had an array of spin moves and he could knock down the 20 foot jumper too!

Chick Hearn may have been a part of the Lakers, but he was one of the few to call the game as it actually happened, even if it wasn't going well. He gave praise where it was due regardless of the team and without being too zealous.

i dont know why, but by watching this and seeing how the lakers had to overcome a big double digit lead and the second half, and then win by a game winning shot from magic....it mustve felt like game 2 of the 2008 finals, except in this game here they got the win....but i feel the same intensity in this game. rivalry has always been the same
