Having lived in both the USA and Spain, I must admit that she is quite right. A lot of people in Spain wish they could live like Americans, but they can't because their jobs won't allow them. That said, I ate healthier in NYC than I do in Spain. Maybe because in NY a lot of people have perfect bodies, as opposed to Spain. So people are more encouraged to eat healthier, though in NY is more expensive than in Spain.
I trust that's what you saw, but statistics (statistics from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene) say otherwise. Like in many other big cities (including spanish cities) obesity is a concern in NYc too. Also you have to realise that upper classes are less obese than lower classes so depending in what kind of neighbourhood you lived in your perception of how many fat people there are will change.
Anyway this shouldn't be some kind of contest. The United States might be the country with higher obeisty rates but that doesn't mean Spain's obesity rates are not alarming too.
Obesity is an important health concern and we should all fight it and help educate about obesity and overweight.

Given that United States is the only country to have put a man on the moon (for example), it seems plausible to me that the United States is richer than Spain, and that is the reason food is so much more affordable in the United States than it is in Spain. Of course there is almost no obese people in Ethiopia, but in developped countries obesity rates are much higher amongst poor people. (I mean the low-income working class, not hobos, of course).
Also Mexico's obesity rates (much higher than richer countries') while Norway's or Switzerland's (two very rich countries) are low.

Thanks for a fun video:) I am familiar with Orange County, California and other parts of the US and I'd go as far as say that you guys (Californians) would probably be the more healthy eaters out of the rest of the US. Also, California would be a bit closer to Spain in food/culture due to having been part of Spain in the past, the similar climate and all, and with a large Mexican population. Your video leaves out a little about Spanish diet tho.
@zeragito your visit to a 'Spanish supermarket" looked more like a convenience store and does not carry typical spanish produce. This is why it is more expensive and people carried out small bags. In Spain, people buy a lot more fresh produce. Then they cook it. Spaniards eat more home-cooked food made from scratch than Americans I'd say and when Spanish people do eat out, they go for tapas (really small portions of locally cooked fresh food with a glass or two (not jug) of beer or wine.

Having lived in both the USA and Spain, I must admit that she is quite right. A lot of people in Spain wish they could live like Americans, but they can't because their jobs won't allow them. That said, I ate healthier in NYC than I do in Spain. Maybe because in NY a lot of people have perfect bodies, as opposed to Spain. So people are more encouraged to eat healthier, though in NY is more expensive than in Spain.

I trust that's what you saw, but statistics (statistics from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene) say otherwise. Like in many other big cities (including spanish cities) obesity is a concern in NYc too. Also you have to realise that upper classes are less obese than lower classes so depending in what kind of neighbourhood you lived in your perception of how many fat people there are will change.

I wonder if Spain is across the board poorer than the United States. Given that United States is the only country to have put a man on the moon (for example), it seems plausible to me that the United States is richer than Spain, and that is the reason food is so much more affordable in the United States than it is in Spain. The rates of obesity in the United States therefore are a sad product of it's own success! Very sad, because who doesn't want to be rich!

Hi from Spain. I think the United States is, indeed, in general terms a richer country than Spain. However obesity rates are not related to wellfare. Of course there is almost no obese people in Ethiopia, but in developped countries obesity rates are much higher amongst poor people. (I mean the low-income working class, not hobos, of course).
Also Mexico's obesity rates (much higher than richer countries') while Norway's or Switzerland's (two very rich countries) are low.

The two big difference between Spain and Usa are: In spain there are more culture and tradition in quality and fresh food but on the other hand, USA is more open for foreign food. Thanks for a fun video:) I am familiar with Orange County, California and other parts of the US and I'd go as far as say that you guys (Californians) would probably be the more healthy eaters out of the rest of the US. Also, California would be a bit closer to Spain in food/culture due to having been part of Spain in the past, the similar climate and all, and with a large Mexican population. @zeragito your visit to a 'Spanish supermarket" looked more like a convenience store and does not carry typical spanish produce. This is why it is more expensive and people carried out small bags. In Spain, people buy a lot more fresh produce. Then they cook it. Spaniards eat more home-cooked food made from scratch than Americans I'd say and when Spanish people do eat out, they go for tapas (really small portions of locally cooked fresh food with a glass or two (not jug) of beer or wine.

I think If you are talking about healthy, you can't end up making a comparison between different prices in a Mcdonald's. Another wrong statement, In Spain they eat more varied and healthier than in America; better recipes, a far long curinary tradition and last they have really cheap food and even cheaper than in US with an easy access

My sister went to Alicante Spain and she lost 10 lbs in 3 months by just being there and eating their food
2 kg of tomatoes 2 euro or something , healthy food very cheap.
