I've tried a few record cleaning solutions and I find the best method is to use PVA woodglue (IT WORKS). Theres a few youtube videos on how to do this and I would only do it as a last resort! Using de-click / de-crackle programs tends to strip the track of its audio detail.
what if u have an mp3 of an old song and it just starts and theres no intro to remove that static but there is a significant amount of static throughout the song and u want it to sound clear???
Noise removal works far better in the Audacity 1.3 Beta. On the old version, after getting the profile I moved the filter level down to less before removing, this retained some noise but it keeps the music from getting too much flange. The new version allows frequency smoothing which I think is to reduce flange, but also you can set the decibel level more easily. But other than that Jeff is right, for the cleanest sound it's better to own records in great condition and keep them clean.
I use Audacity for all my vinyl recording, and for my YouTube videos, but I haven't had much luck using the noise removal tool without losing some of the sound. Thanks for the tips, I'll try them out, but I actually prefer to leave the noise in. I think it just sounds more natural. The best way to have a clean recording is to have a clean record in excellent condition. I use a record cleaning machine for my records.
Under $30 buy a behringer UCA202 soundcard. works wonders with asio drivers installed from their site. Also, use a solution of alcohol and water (half and half) and spray the record and clean off with a clean cloth. let it dry. audacity does a great job of removing clicks. don't forget to go to preferences in audacity and change the quality of the mp3
HI Ive been a audacity user ever since "cool-edit" came out. I find this noice profiling subtracting doesnt work that great with this program or any other software for that matter. Trial and error/tweaking some variables might improve but you it will leave a low audible high-pitched noise due to rendering.
The key in recording vinyl is
a. use good soundcard, pci or usb doesnt matter 80$ and up are pretty ok. anything lower will be heartache.
b. clean vinyl records and have 2 spins before you
record, this is to remove static caused by wiping the record and static in the reocrd player itself.
c (+a) whcich is the important part. use disco elements as needles. expensive hifi beedles wil pick up the tiniest dust and isnt worth it. removing with software will not produce good results. try rendering unwanted noise during play (record 2 needle), disco needles are great. buy some stanton 860 which gives 30-19KHz output and
will enhance output volume for dusty old 50's 60's records while you're playing and recording!
it is way better than removing unwanted ticks and noise, or adding bass at the end to give your recording more volume!
tip d. record with input level reaching about about -2dB max.. After you denoise the less noisy tracks due to my tips a-c, tracks will sound cleaner and suffer less unwanted digital artfiacts!
After demoising lower the volume of the whole track down by 1 dB. this
sorry i didn't take the time tow rite this down. i wont be offended when these scribbles get tossed away by the author if this video.
Just remember, it is way better to render out any unwanted noise/scratches/ticks while you play the record and recording at once, than to remove any scratches or noise, or even eq-ing the track for volume through software!
Sincere appologies go to the author of this channel!
