  • i would kill for your kick sound

  • You are NOT a lousy drummer. I think it takes musical wisdom to keep it simple.

  • Sounds good! Deeeep toms. Nice.

  • do you recomend the pdp kit, is it good for recording?

  • Where can u buy this? its sooo nice

  • this is tiring.

  • Your playing is actually quite good. You have a natural touch. CHEERS!!!

  • everything sounds great

  • like the placement of the ribbon mics and the drum set is good enough. do something for your room man!

  • Paiste rude cymbals, made for punk, metal and rock, and here he is playing a slow light hitting solo with feel xD

  • I have that same set. Verryyy good sound, my dad got the last one sold at Memphis Drum Shop.

  • ride tama :O?

  • I love relying on the over heads. I have a VERY simple setup with my drummer. As a matter of fact, I just use two over heads, and a mic for the Kick. Three mics! Proccess it, add a little verb to blow it up, add some sick EQ, and you're good to go! This recording sounds awesome!

  • Might be extremely simple, but you appreciate drums more than anyone here i bet. Sometimes, it's awesome to just play as simple as you possibly can, and relaxed. And i'm a punk drummer lol. <--- Looks like a dude drowning and i don't think he's laughing out loud...

  • this method is even called recorderman for the position of the overheads i'm going to used it for my next album ;) it sounds really vintage and big

  • @andreacassetta redocrder man is slightly different

the recorder man has a mic over the shoulder of the drummer and a a over head in the slightly left of the of the centre on the kit

  • This makes me fucking tired.

  • Can someone explain step by step , on what you need to buy ? cuz what I have now is a Drum kit , a Yamaha mixer , Garageband . PLEASE HELP THANK YOUUU !! :D

  • Its a lot harder to play in time slow... Kudos

  • Better than ALOT of these other dweebs vids I`ve seen on here.

  • love the sanre ,sound like some vintage snare

  • I don't know why you several times say you are a lousy drummer. Have a little more self esteem, please. Regards.

  • Man Less is more... detail is everything... Kudos.... D

  • HES SLEEP DRUMMING (gasp) AMAZING!

  • lol wow Im actually really surprised of all the positive feedback on this video and no arguments. Not that bad sounding for 4 mics but then again you have a smaller kit than I do and im actually trying to record it with 4 mics. I have audio technica mics which arent bad but kind of sounds overloaded. i have it hooked up to an 8 track mixer. Any other suggestions?

  • lol wow Im actually really surprised of all the positive feedback on this video and no arguments. Not that bad sounding for 4 mics but then again you have a smaller kit than I do and im actually trying to record it with 4 mics

  • you're not lousy, you're awesome...you're just slow ,so you need to speed up.

  • snare is a liiiiiiittle bit to low for my personal taste :)

  • pretty good meter dude,Ive been playing bass for 25 years and its amazing how many drummers out there forget the single most important element keeping good time.nice groove too.

  • Is this a PDP Platinum kit?

  • @Paitsch It was a PDP CX Maple kit. Sold it about a year ago when I was moving. BIG MISTAKE! If you see one grab it - great kit.

  • You're actually a better drummer than most people who claim to be 'drummers' on here! I like the sound to, thumbs up :

  • Sounds good!

  • Hi.

One question.. If you didn't have overhead microphones , then how did you record the sound of the cymbals?

Sorry! I don't know anything about recording!

  • Haha your drumming is above average! Very nice feel, doesn't matter how much fancy shit you can do if you dont got da feel! And you do! Drums sound pretty decent for youtube too!

  • Paiste Rude Ride?

  • @Dmitri8ydna YES! Love that cymbal - had it for over 20 years now.

  • Is this a Glynn Johns mic setup? Seem to work pretty well.

  • @I12BPhil Yes, this is like the Glynn Johns technique I just added the SM57 on the snare.

  • Sounds good, but there's a lot of ambience

  • @BrinkOfInsanityMusic Thanks! The overhead microphones are ribbons which have a "figure of 8" pickup pattern - meaning they're equally sensitive to sounds coming from both sides. So if you're aiming for a ambient sound you can get it without having to set up room microphones - saving you some channels & tracks.

That being said - having dedicated overheads and separate room mics gives you more choices when you mix as you can blend sound from both!

  • I had a Remo Powerstroke 3 on my bass head and when I moved to my double bass kit I bought Two Evans EMAD 2s they are great, If you have the money and you aren't planning on spending it on anything else I suggest you get the EMAD 2... just my opinion.

  • dude dont ever worry about not having "mad skills". A good drummer doesn't always have to be Neal Pert.

  • i like your drumming, fancy and has some groove to it.

  • I agree with some of the people here, tighten that snare. It's kind of sad right now, you can hear it wanting to get more of a slap sound to it, it's crying for it.

Like your kit, very nice sounding and also pretty.

  • keep ur toms like that

but thigthen your snare to the max

sounds really awesome, but not for your genre i think :D

  • Toms sound really good!! (: But I'd suggest cranking up your snare dude..

  • You could a jazz drummer!

  • @gandrurass have you ever heard real jazz? it is one of the hardest drum styles to learn.

  • @bigD2387 I don't think you know what I'm saying. I said EACH INDIVIDUAL DRUM is pre tuned by him, and when he plays, whether he's bad or good, stays relatively close, if not the same as the pitch he changed it to. Don't get angry over what you didn't understand sir.

  • I dont no if youre just starting out but you have rythm just keep working listen to some records you will be amazed how fast you pick up some beats.

  • wow... i just fell asleep

  • your EMAD bass drum sounds really good, how is it tuned? What do you do the batter head and reso head after you finger tighten the lugs?

  • @metalliclark it says really low in description "drums tuned pretty low"

  • Reminds me of some Elliott Smith or Beatles drumming. Good chill grooves.

  • I thought you did pretty good on the sound with the equipment you have I think the drums sound good even bettter if they were in a mix like a song of some sort

  • your kit will sound better if u insulate the room or get drum shield, and ur not tht lousy jus stay on time cause really thats all a drummer does is hold the tempo

  • kit sounds great and playin is great. but it sounds like either the bottom head of the snare is too loose and the snares are too tight or vice versa..

  • your either very tasteful or on a big hangover

  • @TheSkyLineBand1 HA! Just lazy - That's why I've had the same 4 cymbals forever.

  • ......

  • The beginning reminds me of The Warming Sun by Grandaddy

  • i have the same kit! :D

i didnt know those drums were capable of that deep sound X:

  • Tighten up the top head and loosen the bottom a spec. Perhaps a 2ply on batter to fatten up the sound if the current is worn out. As is it sounds like a worn out head with uneven tuning. You have a wood snare, it should sound like one. Just sayin

  • i agree with drummer4life54 good sound but i dont like the snare sound!

  • im a total noob when it comes to recording.

what do the mics plug in to? and what does that plug in to? and what does that plug in to? and so on and so on..

help would be very appreciated x

  • @yugface A microphone plugins into a mixer or pre amplifier via an XLR lead, it then goes to a analog to digital interface which transfers the signal onto your computer. Thats pretty much the most basic set up you will find unless outboard compressors and equalisers etc are included.

  • you look tired, or baked.

  • Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.. haha nice drumming dude =) really jazzy xD

  • cool sound on that snare, reminds me of steve jordan, who rapes by the way!

  • Love the laid back feel. Keep rockin'

  • How do you like the audiofire 12? I'm using a Firestudio Project now, and as my external preamp collection is growing I've been looking into getting some good standalone converters. I'm just not sure if the audiofire series is a dramatic enough step up from the the Firestudio Project to justify spending. What are your thoughts on them?

  • Are PDP kits any good? Cuz I know they are made by DW but cuz its not actually a DW I thought maybe they're not that great quality? just wonderin is it worth while gettin a PDP drumset...

  • its all fun and thats what counts, keep drumming

  • This sleepy beat is making me yaaaaaawn :) In a good way, I really like it.

  • Nice job....great sounding kit...been looking at vids of kick mics...yours sounds fat!

  • lift your head up and add a little style and you could be a better drummer

  • @stagecustomfan

The lack of "style" could be seen as tasteful and minimalist. It's totally subjective. Adding "style", which is a really vague term anyway, won't necessarily make him a "better" drummer. Lack of fanciness is a very good trait in my opinion.

  • your bass drum sounds beast!

  • pretty hilarious video.

    and very nice kit.

I understand it's just to show the drums, but couldn't you have but at least a tiinny bit for effort in heh?

  • nice!!

  • nICE KIT man love it

  • ur a good drummer but u look like ur STONED lol

  • Kinda Glyn Johns style. Sounds cool

  • I love your tone. Especially your floor tom...Kaboom!

  • every bodys got there own drum sound i like the snare but its what he lieks its his drum set

  • Clean and natural sound. FINALLY, someone that understood that good ambient miking is better than creppy cheapo close-miking... and great drumming, as clean as the sound. Want to see more =).

  • Hi there, it's nice to hear some mellow drumming. Mate, you maybe aren't the most technical drummer I have ever heard but I am really enjoying this video coz you play with a nice laid back feel that is really difficult to find a drummer with. You should work a little on your drum rolls and you will be an ace blues drummer!

    This mic setup sounds killer!!!

    Thanks for posting

  • dude what are does mics?....ur using?

  • The sad thing is you play better than any drummers I've been in bands with. :)

  • groovy!

  • think you got a bonzo feel goin

    im likin it, nice shit

  • Good Job Your Life Isn't Miserable Or Anything.. Hahaa - Jokes =P

  • no offense but ithink ur snare sounds a lil weird but the rest sounds good tighten up ur snare

  • phase-problems..

  • Super GROVE and sound!!!

Can you play something for my track?

  • very nice sound man! i'm beginning to really love this mic set up.

  • Anyone have any experience with this kit? is it worth $400?

  • bought it 3 years ago and love it, have 3 other sets and this on is 2nd (roland TD-8's are first any day) only drum kit you will get to sound this good for $400, they sound better in real life too.

  • Thanks man! I have only heard good things about this set so far. I am going to purchase it this weekend at guitar center as long as its bearing edges are fine and it is still in stock. You will probably see a vid up soon!

  • @enjoime17

Wait this kit is only $400?!?! Wow sounds really good for a kit that cheap

  • what type of mic do you have over the low tom? Also what mic on the bass drum?

  • perfect sound for grunge and punk.

honestly, this kit sounds fuckin amaZing

  • sounds pretty decent! keep drumming!

  • you sound like alice in chains drummer

  • ur snare has kind of a buzz u should tune it tighter. good jam tho

  • raw sound, but for me, its cool...

  • you actually aren't all that bad at drumming. you dont do nothin fancy, but you've got rythm and you stay in tune. and thats good.

  • and i just realized you uploaded this video the same day as my birthday! lol.

  • Happy Birthday haha

  • lol. thanks.

  • @bigD2387 in tune!?! wtf are you talking about? In time???

  • @runninfortheboder "tune" has two meanings. one meaning sounding good, like a drum being tuned, and the other meaning staying on track, on time. etc. i was using it in the term meaning time.......... -.-

  • @bigD2387 I have never EVER heard it used in that way. quit trying to sound like you know more than you actually do

  • @runninfortheboder i dont give a fuck what you've heard it or how you heard it. so just shut the fuck up.

  • @bigD2387 Stay in tune, LOLZ

  • @bigD2387 How do you not stay in tune with drums that are each all tuned to one pitch?

  • @OwMyQuach how do you not shut the fuck up about it? and drums tuned to one pitch? XD you go tune a drum set to make all the drums sound the same pitch and we'll see how it sounds. lol

  • @bigD2387

    stay in tune..

not hard when you play the drums..theres no tune to stay in hahha

  • sounds pretty cool! the two toms sounds too similar, but that might be only my taste. keep it up!

  • What Mic setup are you using? :)

  • your not really lousy man your good just you have more a laid back grove style.

  • the name pdp sounds budget but i know they are good kits and i want one how much was this also how much were your mics ,thanks

  • your not a lousy drummer youve accually got a nice feel.

  • that was cool...short and sweet....your drumming seems fine to me and the sound is really good....nice depth especially on that floor tom

  • no sound issues noted

  • fuck that rack to use thatmic for the snare put it between the 2

  • it sounds good but im not a big fan of the sound of your snare

  • @drummer4life54 It sounds like its more for acoustic rock or indie music--warm, low tuned, not a lot of 'crack' to it. It does make me wanna sleep..which is why I dont like Indie rock haha.

  • Yeah, this is good sounding when you play softly.... what about wailing on those drums??

  • Nice floor tom sound, I have a similar kit and have always liked that drum.

  • very sweet clean sound ~ are all 4 mics condensor mics? this is phenomenal sound for 4 mics, great work

  • sm57's are dynamic mics

  • thanks, yes i've concluded your sound is so great because your on pdp's. i listened on video to many pearls, tama, ludwig, etc. & nothing has the quality sound as pdp ~ that's not bias because i don't own a kit yet, that's just my conclusion from my research so far. so mic's are important, but the kit is even more important ~ great pdp kit.

    thanks again, james

  • @caesarjamesaugustus I like it too. It´s the Glyn Johns technique. Very sweet

  • You said 10 12 and 14 toms, but I only see two...and what's supporting the one on the left in this video? It looks almost like it's floating...haha

  • hey, just a question... how did you get the toms tuned that low and sound so clean? if i try to tune my toms that low, the heads will make kind of a rattling or crinkling sound when hit. Reso's do it more than the batter heads. i use all Evans heads BTW. cheers. Zac

  • dude ive listened to drummers play with 8 to 10 mics that havent sounded this good. VERY nice quality sound for 4 mics. Question though...we all know that the size/shape of a room is critical to the sound of recording drums...whats the general dimmesions of your studio room?

  • you have the same kit as me and did the same thing narrowed it down to a four piece thats really ironic hahah cool

  • don't understand why people comment without reading the description or the purpose of this video... Anyway...

You got a great sound with 4 mic's, pretty awesome... I always believed u needed 8 or 10 mic's to capture the sounds of it but I wasn't sure if we could pull it off with 4...

  • ok, just let me get something straight. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BETTER DRUM KIT. IT IS WHAT THE PLAYER WANTS TO HEAR.

  • oh man and zbt's dont suck theyre really good just so you know i love um and yea thats it i use that and i actually have a paiste rude 17 inch ride now so yea

  • kinda gay

  • dude, you have mad skills.... no way... although your kit sounds kinda rough, try putting some mics, sounds better

  • Haahaha he is. He's actually using 4 mics.

  • i know man, lol, read the description.... :)

  • sounds like "the band" totally dig that sound

  • man you sound to me like a great ! and I mean great studio drummer, and not to mention just a great drummer all in all!

  • sounding awesome

  • Nice :)

  • wow pretty boring

  • It's only boring if you're not using your ears.

  • your not lousy at all!!!

  • Бля, это чё за инвалид?!

  • You've got a nice, laid back feel. I like it.

  • Sounds like some good ol' Ringo drumming. Great sounds!

  • great body moving - cheers !!!!

  • nice for Billy Joel beats... the ones in the 80s

  • The only problem I have with this video is the way your snare is tuned, but that's a preference thing.

    Nice beat going on.

  • Fatheads sound amazing. I can't wait to get them in the mail.

  • That's funny you say you're lousy...I've heard plenty of people who consider themselves pretty good drummers that are a LOT worse than you. You got the groove man, what else is there?? Great sound by the way!

  • Yeah those people often title video "name + greatest drummer ever "

  • aghh paiste as far as ride id go with teh zijdian zbt ride

  • zbt........ lol

  • zbt's suck.

they're like the worst series of Zildjian

Best ride would be a 21" Zildjian A Custom Projection Ride

  • Actually I have a ZBT ride hat I buried for 3 months, yes in the ground, and it sounds really good for jazz. I use my A Custom for rock and funk gigs and my ZBT for jazz.

  • wait why would you bury them in the ground?

  • To age it. You can read all about it on the internet.

  • Paiste Rude ride? niiiiice :D

  • same kit as myne pdp cx =)

  • Clean and natural sound, liked that!

  • u sound like buddy rich

    jk

  • dude eq tht shit.

  • why? it's a nice natural drum sound. maybe the toms are a little bass-heavey, but everything for the most part sounds pretty nice.

  • ya i guess ur right now that i go back and watch. its a nice sound. maybe some room acoustics would help though.

  • nice

  • id kill for a kit sounding that good

  • how'd you tune your floor tom? it all sounds so awesome! :D
