I love relying on the over heads. I have a VERY simple setup with my drummer. As a matter of fact, I just use two over heads, and a mic for the Kick. Three mics! Proccess it, add a little verb to blow it up, add some sick EQ, and you're good to go! This recording sounds awesome!
Might be extremely simple, but you appreciate drums more than anyone here i bet. Sometimes, it's awesome to just play as simple as you possibly can, and relaxed. And i'm a punk drummer lol. <--- Looks like a dude drowning and i don't think he's laughing out loud...
Can someone explain step by step , on what you need to buy ? cuz what I have now is a Drum kit , a Yamaha mixer , Garageband . PLEASE HELP THANK YOUUU !! :D
lol wow Im actually really surprised of all the positive feedback on this video and no arguments. Not that bad sounding for 4 mics but then again you have a smaller kit than I do and im actually trying to record it with 4 mics. I have audio technica mics which arent bad but kind of sounds overloaded. i have it hooked up to an 8 track mixer. Any other suggestions?
lol wow Im actually really surprised of all the positive feedback on this video and no arguments. Not that bad sounding for 4 mics but then again you have a smaller kit than I do and im actually trying to record it with 4 mics
pretty good meter dude,Ive been playing bass for 25 years and its amazing how many drummers out there forget the single most important element keeping good time.nice groove too.
Haha your drumming is above average! Very nice feel, doesn't matter how much fancy shit you can do if you dont got da feel! And you do! Drums sound pretty decent for youtube too!
@BrinkOfInsanityMusic Thanks! The overhead microphones are ribbons which have a "figure of 8" pickup pattern - meaning they're equally sensitive to sounds coming from both sides. So if you're aiming for a ambient sound you can get it without having to set up room microphones - saving you some channels & tracks.
That being said - having dedicated overheads and separate room mics gives you more choices when you mix as you can blend sound from both!
I had a Remo Powerstroke 3 on my bass head and when I moved to my double bass kit I bought Two Evans EMAD 2s they are great, If you have the money and you aren't planning on spending it on anything else I suggest you get the EMAD 2... just my opinion.
I agree with some of the people here, tighten that snare. It's kind of sad right now, you can hear it wanting to get more of a slap sound to it, it's crying for it.
Like your kit, very nice sounding and also pretty.
@bigD2387 I don't think you know what I'm saying. I said EACH INDIVIDUAL DRUM is pre tuned by him, and when he plays, whether he's bad or good, stays relatively close, if not the same as the pitch he changed it to. Don't get angry over what you didn't understand sir.
I thought you did pretty good on the sound with the equipment you have I think the drums sound good even bettter if they were in a mix like a song of some sort
your kit will sound better if u insulate the room or get drum shield, and ur not tht lousy jus stay on time cause really thats all a drummer does is hold the tempo
kit sounds great and playin is great. but it sounds like either the bottom head of the snare is too loose and the snares are too tight or vice versa..
Tighten up the top head and loosen the bottom a spec. Perhaps a 2ply on batter to fatten up the sound if the current is worn out. As is it sounds like a worn out head with uneven tuning. You have a wood snare, it should sound like one. Just sayin
@yugface A microphone plugins into a mixer or pre amplifier via an XLR lead, it then goes to a analog to digital interface which transfers the signal onto your computer. Thats pretty much the most basic set up you will find unless outboard compressors and equalisers etc are included.
How do you like the audiofire 12? I'm using a Firestudio Project now, and as my external preamp collection is growing I've been looking into getting some good standalone converters. I'm just not sure if the audiofire series is a dramatic enough step up from the the Firestudio Project to justify spending. What are your thoughts on them?
Are PDP kits any good? Cuz I know they are made by DW but cuz its not actually a DW I thought maybe they're not that great quality? just wonderin is it worth while gettin a PDP drumset...
The lack of "style" could be seen as tasteful and minimalist. It's totally subjective. Adding "style", which is a really vague term anyway, won't necessarily make him a "better" drummer. Lack of fanciness is a very good trait in my opinion.
Clean and natural sound. FINALLY, someone that understood that good ambient miking is better than creppy cheapo close-miking... and great drumming, as clean as the sound. Want to see more =).
Hi there, it's nice to hear some mellow drumming. Mate, you maybe aren't the most technical drummer I have ever heard but I am really enjoying this video coz you play with a nice laid back feel that is really difficult to find a drummer with. You should work a little on your drum rolls and you will be an ace blues drummer!

@runninfortheboder "tune" has two meanings. one meaning sounding good, like a drum being tuned, and the other meaning staying on track, on time. etc. i was using it in the term meaning time.......... -.-
@OwMyQuach how do you not shut the fuck up about it? and drums tuned to one pitch? XD you go tune a drum set to make all the drums sound the same pitch and we'll see how it sounds. lol
@drummer4life54 It sounds like its more for acoustic rock or indie music--warm, low tuned, not a lot of 'crack' to it. It does make me wanna sleep..which is why I dont like Indie rock haha.

zbt's suck.
they're like the worst series of Zildjian
Best ride would be a 21" Zildjian A Custom Projection Ride

Actually I have a ZBT ride hat I buried for 3 months, yes in the ground, and it sounds really good for jazz. I use my A Custom for rock and funk gigs and my ZBT for jazz.

why? it's a nice natural drum sound. maybe the toms are a little bass-heavey, but everything for the most part sounds pretty nice.
