I just won VIP tickets to see this group live. Too bad I'm only 18 and don't really know any of their material. And too bad I'll be living in another state. Weak.
I love this song....back in 1987 my mom and I went to see the Oak Ridge Boys just after Steve Sanders joined the group as a front singer....that was my first concert and I was glad that I got to share it with my mom cause 5 years later she past away.....its sad that Steve Sanders passed away also, he was great
I sing this song to my wife and mother all the time, and I'm a Teacher For The Deaf, and I've have taught my class this song as well....And, I requested it to be played at my funeral. It is one of the 3 most important songs to my heart and soul forever. Thank you Oak Ridge Boys....
I have to admit I do find referring to your mother as 'baby' somewhat disturbing, but it's otherwise an ode to your better half if you hear it on the radio or on CD.
I haven't heard this in 2o years,at least. It's funny how I never caught on that the song was about mothers the first few times I heard it.In fact, even after seeing the video the first few times too.
Very touching to see this video with all the guys, but especially with Joe and his mother, Lilly. If you haven't read Joe's book "G I Joe & Lilly", or even heard the song Joe wrote with the same title, do yourself a favor and get a copy of his book. Both are a wonderful tribute to Joe's mom and dad, and it really brings more meaning to this song for me. The video to the song is on YT and I won't spoil it for you... but I'll say this, go ahead and get your hanky ready for this one.
@DaveWollenberg Probably cause he was having marital problems, and with Willie rejoining the band in 1996, that probably didn't help his self esteem any as well.
@HEBisreal Actually it's more about being kept in touch with the real world and the common person regardless of how famous they get. For fame can change the way a person percieves the world around them.
lame load speed set aside.....my mom is still alive and well but given my job i never know what each day is gonna bring so even being 25 y/o i'm alway's sure to tell my mom i love her cause well i never take life for granted
@forthmancrew Is it weird that i am almost 38 and sometimes call my mother mommy? Some people say it is, while others say i can call her what i want because she gave birth to me
I love this song, a heart felt tribute to to their mothers; I would be lost without my mommy;I can say that with no shame,my mother made me,and I am eternally grateful! Class tune, great group.
i remember this video thats my uncle walking into our family store in philly. Joe's Parents lived behind it. This video was the first time anyone in the neighborhood seen mrs. bonsil in anything but her babydolls. bless them.
i love these guys it says it all here about our moms and grandmothers where all babys at one time and i love my mom and am glad to have her shes been there for me ill never forget remember moms are the bomb
Back in 1988 to 1990, I was a country music DJ at a small AM radio station. I used to play this song all the time. I don't guess I'd ever heard it in stereo until today!!! Excellent sound quality on the HQ mode. Thank you for taking the time to post!!!
This is a great video to watch on this special Mother's day. I have three great sons who always spend Mother's day with me. Michael34 Ronnie 31 and Shane 28
He indeed is awesome!!! His name is Richard Sterban and he also was with JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet. JD and his group having a long association with Elvis during his touring years of 1970-77. Sterban sang on many of Elvis' later Gospel songs.
richard sterban the guy in red, hes great, ifyou havent, and you like low voice, look up the song elvira, and working on a building by the oak ridge boys
bcatwell... you are being purposely difficult. It's a song, and yes, while the lyrics might not have been written from the writer to his mother they are using it to pay homage to their mothers in this video.
