hey nice job! quick question is that the vintage white color? Because im planning on getting one of these in white but im not sure if vintage white looks good i dont really like the yelowish color of it it but it doesnt look bad on yours. Please help me out. Thanks
@fefsfdssdv - Yes, that's the color Fender Japan calls vintage white, it is quite "creamy". You can see it better now that I've replaced the pickguard by a white one :
The fingerboard is rosewood, the video is a bit dark. Well they're not _that_ neglected; Fender has recently created a "Classic Player" Jazzmaster series made in Mexico. Slightly different specs from a standard Jazzmaster, but great instruments nonetheless. :)
i have a question, what do all of those switches do, this may seem like a stupid quesion, but i play a strat and the only switch it has is a pickup selector.... and jazzmasters seem to have like, 5 switches.
- tone and volume can be set with the upper black wheels (these are pots, not switches).
When upper switch is down:
- the active pickup(s) can be selected with the lower 3-way selector, like on a Tele;
- tone and volume can be set with the lower white pots.
The point of this setup was to have two different settings with their own tone and volume, so you could use the upper switch during a song to change from rhythm to solo and back.
well, the stock pickups are really bright. since the jazzmaster is already a bright guitar.... it kinda kills my ears. but..... some amps it works out great. but, most amps it has too much Ice-pick treble. OUCH!
i was thinking about the lollars or the curtis novaks.
Oh yes the JM is very bright, but that's not the pickups, that's the 1M-ohm pots. I usually play with the tone pot halfway (on 5). I doubt swapping pickups will change this.
hmmmm.... does your tone pot have a rather steep taper? example..... 10 is really super bright ......turn down to eight and a little bit warmer..... turn down to seven and all of a sudden the treble is all filtered out?
anyways, i just got this guitar... so im still learning. I should probably open her up and take a look sometime.
Oh no, I find the tone pot is rather progressive. Maybe replacing your tone pot with a 500K linear would help your brightness problem ? I didn't play with the pickups height, defaut was fine to me.
The guitar is plugged into a Vox Tonelab LE preamp in Tweed 4x10 mode (a Fender Bassman emulation), I recorded on my PC from the optical output of the Vox.
I love this guitar. what amp are you using? those bass notes are really warm. I have a custom epiphione black beauty two les paul, its got damazios on and i got it second hand for £445, how much would a good jazzmaster set me back do you think? reply please :]
Well a Japanese JM is around 800€, and a U.S. one around ... 2000€. The price difference is not worth it though, the japanese woodwork/hardware is good, the weak point is the pickups (they're good, but not very faithful to the vintage Jazzmaster sound), that's why I replaced them with Lollar pickups. As for the sound, the guitar is plugged into a Vox Tonelab LE preamp, I recorded on my PC from the optical output of the Vox.
yeah but it was released on THE BEATLES white album. it's not like a paul solo song. just because John Lennon wrote all you need is love doesn't mean it's just a Lennon song. it's Beatles.
il y a deux circuits distincts sur la jazzmaster, un circuit en potentiomètres 1Meg, un circuit avec un potentiomètre de 50k en tone, d'où un son plus velouté.
hey...great sound...I've a question...I'm about to buy a Fender Jaguar (the one with Humbuckers)...I'm into White Stripes Guitar sound...that FAT Vintage SOund...What do you think?...I'm looking just for an opinion
i've gotten white stripes kinda sound with a les paul studio and the presence cranked downon my amp, i think that sound is more bassed on amp settings than equipment, tube amp might be necessary though.
Plugged the guitar into a Vox Tonelab LE, which has a optical-out -> straight into my Terratec soundcard. Did it as a demo of the Lollar pickups for a friend, so i kept the sound as clean as possible, only a bit of reverb.
Yup you're right, the original is way slower. Should have checked it for reference before doing the clip (recording stress probably raised the speed too), sorry about that.
WAAAAAAAAAAY too fast!

Great playing! I really dig the jangly blue-grassy vibe of the tempo.
Those Lollars sure do sound great

This is a beatiful guitar, well thought of in terms of design, personally i think this is better than a telecaster, btw is the fingerboard ebony?
coz it looks dark from my computer screen.
Its a shame Fender neglected this series coz its versatile, comfortable and sounds good.

Just a bit fast but hell if you don't have to sing I say go for it.
