@ mjt11860 Pros, it feels slightly my mores comfortable and is makes you have a little more control. the cons, you don't have as much maneuverability with you other fingers to do standard licks, and scales like you would if its on your pinky, but its mostly just preference :)
If I am in open E and i play all the strings its and E but what about how your just picking strings -- if I pick the 5th string and resolve to the 12th am Inot playing an A which I might not want to resolve a solo to becasue its in E?

To some extent, I agree, you need to go slower, do it many times over, describe it different ways, get close up angles, ect., to get a really really good lesson.
i have a seagull folk acoustic and i've tried open e a few times and the strings just snapped soon after. i usually use regular light strings; what are better strings to use?
I use GHS .011-.050 Boomers. It's good just to raise the action fairly high in the beginning. It will make learning so much easier, and you'll want to stick with it.
I will soon. I'll be gone for a week, then I'll put some more up after the holidays. I'm currently developing a slide guitar instructional DVD. Thanks.

Were you using nails or fingertips on your right hand?
jman890202 3 years ago
fingertips. Sometimes you can use a fingertip to get a more bright attack.

Good solid slide tone. It is always good to hear someone who has the vibrato, tone, pitch etc together!

Thanks for the great comments.
johntuggle 3 years ago
No insensitive remarks here.
Your technique is outstanding, your rhythm is precise and and you've got a very tasteful and melodic library of ideas.
Dude, cheers for taking the time to pass it on with such a well explained and comprehensive lesson - every one.
You fuckin' rip; enjoy your talent, I do.
insensitiveremarks 3 years ago
I don't know why, but I just don't seem to be gettn the right sound. I think my frets are just too dug out...
BrianDEvans 3 years ago
Brian, no frets needed - just use the frets as a guide -- keep the slide directly over the fret-wire - that's where the center of your pitch is.....
snogglemonkey 3 years ago
Good advice here. Remember to always use your ears!

how do you EQ your amp? whats a good setting for slide guitar
anaturaladdiction 3 years ago
My amp has no EQ, only volume and tone. Put the volume on 12 and the tone on 7. I'm not kidding either. Fender Pro JR with a few mods.
johntuggle 3 years ago
great vid....what gauge of strings do you reccommend for SG for slide? How high is the action? thx.

I use GHS .011-.050 Boomers. It's good just to raise the action fairly high in the beginning. It will make learning so much easier, and you'll want to stick with it.
