  • @ mjt11860 Pros, it feels slightly my mores comfortable and is makes you have a little more control. the cons, you don't have as much maneuverability with you other fingers to do standard licks, and scales like you would if its on your pinky, but its mostly just preference :)

  • what r the pros & cons to putting the slide on the ring as opposed to the pinky?

  • If I am in open E and i play all the strings its and E but what about how your just picking strings -- if I pick the 5th string and resolve to the 12th am Inot playing an A which I might not want to resolve a solo to becasue its in E?

  • Dude is your last name Trucks??? Dont Lie!! Ha ha ha... Sweet

  • @sngncwby I wish! Thanks.

  • old plastic pill bottle and a paper towel did rthe trick. If only i could type w/ this damn thing on hahaha/ great lesson

  • What kind of slide is that? Did you mae it by yourself? Great guitar!!! how old is she?

  • It's glass, and you can buy it.

  • very heplful thanks! Awsome lesson!

  • Open E tuning? How's that?

    E, B, E G# B E?

  • You got it!

  • why is there so much hum. you need to reground something.

  • not to sound poor or whatever, but i bet you didn't know that a spoon would work almost as good.

  • Doesn't matter if I learned anything at all! That was fantastic picking. Lesson... I'm too busy listening!

  • sounds like them ol ghost in the delta is gettin up and walkin around again......

  • good job mate

  • this is probly the best lesson ever.. A+ And God Bless

  • this is great and keepin it simple..dan

  • I think its a good lesson

  • sick lesson. you have THE best tone ive heard in a LONG time. What kind of amp do you use? Any effect?

  • Fender Pro Jr. on 12!

    Thanks!

  • i love the sound of slide guitar

  • sounds like hes jumping on the rev limiter at 3:50 haha.

  • great playing and all, but these doesn't teach shit

  • whatever

  • To some extent, I agree, you need to go slower, do it many times over, describe it different ways, get close up angles, ect., to get a really really good lesson.

  • this nice..i love this style

  • thankyou sir...

  • what key did robert johnson play in?

  • Is Derek Trucks?

  • hey man this is a great vid, but when you rake, how do you get the string to not make a noise?

  • He's muting with the first 2 fingers of his left hand

  • i have a seagull folk acoustic and i've tried open e a few times and the strings just snapped soon after. i usually use regular light strings; what are better strings to use?

  • yeah man that was sweet. i play alot in open E and i can pull it off im just glad i saw this for some more direction. thank you much

  • I have a bottle neck slide that i purchased. Is it worth it? Should i get a nice slide instead to have clearer notes and vibratos?

  • Excellent lesson, thanks

  • Were you using nails or fingertips on your right hand?

  • fingertips. Sometimes you can use a fingertip to get a more bright attack.

  • nice guitar

  • yeah, great lesson, dude! Great guitar sound and way of playing slide!

  • This screams Derek Trucks...lol

    Nice lesson

  • Good solid slide tone. It is always good to hear someone who has the vibrato, tone, pitch etc together!

  • Thanks for the great comments.

  • No insensitive remarks here.

Your technique is outstanding, your rhythm is precise and and you've got a very tasteful and melodic library of ideas.

Dude, cheers for taking the time to pass it on with such a well explained and comprehensive lesson - every one.

You fuckin' rip; enjoy your talent, I do.

  • I don't know why, but I just don't seem to be gettn the right sound. I think my frets are just too dug out...

  • Brian, no frets needed - just use the frets as a guide -- keep the slide directly over the fret-wire - that's where the center of your pitch is.....

  • Good advice here. Remember to always use your ears!

  • You got it John. I bought the DVD, wish me luck!

  • Thanks so much and Good Luck!

  • Man, you're great! Do you have any suggestions for finger plucking exercises? I'm new at this.

  • great vid! thought i was listening to derek trucks himself.

  • i dont understand

  • how do you EQ your amp? whats a good setting for slide guitar

  • My amp has no EQ, only volume and tone. Put the volume on 12 and the tone on 7. I'm not kidding either. Fender Pro JR with a few mods.

  • great vid....what gauge of strings do you reccommend for SG for slide? How high is the action? thx.

  • I use GHS .011-.050 Boomers. It's good just to raise the action fairly high in the beginning. It will make learning so much easier, and you'll want to stick with it.

  • sounds beautiful

  • omg u own dude

  • Great video...

What's it called when you slide the pick across the strings to make a fading sound?

  • possibly a 'pick scrape'

if thats what u mean they do sound cool.

  • Great series man! Thanks.

  • I will soon. I'll be gone for a week, then I'll put some more up after the holidays. I'm currently developing a slide guitar instructional DVD. Thanks.

  • put some more vids up now!!!!
