@crazylegspete surely would be better for the engine to elevate the revs to a sensible point and just keep them there - like you would when you would after an engine rebuild of a conventional car- i.e raise to 2000rpm and hold for 15 mins after startup? (Before someone says it I know these things rev like crazy so would more than likey be about 4000 - 5000 rpms)
