  • Put your seatbelts on

  • I almost forgot, dumb fucks like us helped people that day. Dumb fucks like us where there all night helping the town. Dumb fucks like us were the first responders. Why don't you first grow up and stop threatening people. If your going to call someone dumb, I would suggest first learning how to spell. And your not wreckless wanting to punch random people for reporting severe weather cause there close to a tornado and say fuck. Grow up

  • yes we get it! its a tornado... but seriously RAW FOOTAGE isnt always the best to be posted...this is why our government thinks we are ALL wreckless because of dumb fucks like u!

  • how close do u need to be for good footage? how about getting a better camera or maybe a better angle? the last thing us first responders need is a body count of dumbasses that thought it was a good idea to get as close as possible. i understand the adrinaline rush but seriously if i would have u seen u 2 out that day i would have punched u in the face and how "professional" r u? how many times r u ganna say fuck?

  • I want to say thank you to you guys who helped everyone out of there homes. I live in Mapleton, and was at the high school play that night. The roof was ripped off and part of it collapsed. Only minor injures, & no one died. I loved seeing our whole town pull together and really come together as a town & help everyone get there lives back to 'normal'.In school we have always practiced tornado drills, but never in our lives did we think we would actually encounter a tornado.

  • Well on the brightside im in 7th grade and i want to be a Meteorologist NOT A stormChaser (:

and tornadoes are my biggest fear...But if it wernt for tornadoes i wouldnt have usch interest in Meteorology.

    I <3 Mother Nature (:

  • CREEPY - and one of the most interesting tornadoes videos I've ever seen. :O

  • Land of the free (kinda). If you want to drive into a tornado...more power to ya. Cool vid. Would be even cooler if you did get sucked up and thrown 1000 yards. Either way...I appreciate it.

  • When it's pitch dark on the open road I guess the only way one can see a tornado is predominatly if there is lightning??

  • omggg im scared watching this! u must of craped ur self

  • Just UTTER, UTTER luck you lot didn't got sucked up into the damn thing.

  • i think this is the best video i seen of mapleton,ia tornado that hit 4/9/11,simply because you were in the tornado and reminds me of that night alerting the apt complex i live in sioux city,ia,and im from salix,we had are fair share near the mid-american power plants along missouri river over the decades, keep fiming.great job

  • Seriously, there is no way that you can argue that "you're a professional and you knew what you were doing". No amount of experience or equipment or "hunch" can justify approaching that close to a tornado of that strength at night. None. If anything, it speaks to a serious lack of sense or an extreme overabundance of confidence in your abilities (or luck). You were extremely fortunate not to be hurt.

  • @PootStip the tornado happened during daylight. It was after 6 o'clock. We had 2 hrs of daylight to help rescue people. It just looks so dark cause we were so close. The tornado was moving north of us, so we were safe.

  • im on my daughters name, but im 45. im terrified of storms to the point that i cant breathe during a severe thunderstorm, tornado watch. could doing something like this possibly cure this. ive always thought it might. lol people at work will actually baby me when a storm rolls in. live in indiana.

  • By far the most amazing tornado footage I have ever seen... Props to you - simply amazing.

  • wow i bet that was an adrenaline rush times 10!!

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO.

  • Great footage guys. Made my list.

    mytop10youtube / mapleton-iowa-wedge-tornado-4911/

  • I would like to just say I love everything about storm chasing never been but watch all you videos. They are the best i would love to ride along with you one day in my life but I live in Colorado and I always hope for a store like this but you guys are so kool to do things like that and I have lots of respect for you all out there and hope and pray for you to all be safe.

  • mother of god! that sucker's like light to the flies

  • Amazing! If you compare the tornado from the beginning of the clip, to the end, just amazing how fast it became a black monster wedge. Great video shooting guys!

  • aghinem said - "Did anyone even consider the possibility of satellite tornadoes forming within that parent circulation?"

I have seen large tornadoes spawn satellite tornadoes often enough to know that getting that close to them is extremely risky.

  • You guys are driving a ford focus right? The cd player screen and the 'fasten seatlbelt' audible warning remind me of my focus too. Great car selection!

  • fasten your seatbelt!

  • I would be crapping my pants!

  • the tornado was like "sup? i am going to stay right here so you guys can record my good side" LOL

  • Now I know what a large tornado will sound like when it is about to hit my house.

  • Nice footage guys!

  • I have studied tornadoes for 20 years and have never seen documented footage this dangerously close. I appreciate any chaser or scientist that puts their lives at risk for field study, but this video is beyond any comprehensible level of extreme. Whether you are an experienced chaser or not, this video represented 50% experience and 50% luck. Did anyone even consider the possibility of satellite tornadoes forming within that parent circulation?

  • @aghinem I thought the very same thing. And right before the tornado grew large, if you watch on the left side of the screen you see a huge inflow jet roaring very close to the driver's side. It almost appeared to me that the tornado was being drawn into the jet flow and could have easily drifted close enough to suck in their vehicle. That was very close. I can't imagine the thrill.

  • Insane!! But so cool! Wished I'd been right there!

  • Way to go guys!! Awesome video!! You should have gotten out of the car for some nice pics.

  • Way to go guys!! Awesome video!!

  • MAN THE LAST TIME I WAS THAT CLOSE WAS AURORA NEBRASKA. THAT IS PURE AWSOME.!!! AND I WASNT THERE.... DAMN.!!!!!! --- I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THAT ROAD DAMNNEAR DRIVING IN IT. CRAZI STUFF.

  • Great imagery. Meanwhile you guys define the word idiot. REally what was the reward other than pretty video? You all coulda been killed for nothing

  • Next time, drive into it sissypants.

It's great to hear people yelling and cheering while a town and the people in it are getting thrashed. Stay classy all ya'll!

  • Exciting. thanks.

  • Wow that tornado was all like, "Hey guys, I'm a tornado, I'm just gonna sit here and then go blow that town up." xP I live not far from where it was.

  • Hey Jordan, we were actually in the Explorer that passed you at the end - sorry for getting in your video ;). The mesonet got a pressure drop to 988mb and possibly up to 80mph winds.

It was a calculated risk but fairly safe where we were if you know tornadoes very well. Up a 1/4 mile, Reed had to drive into a ditch and Andy G lost his back window - so the line was being toed.

P.S. 'Every year' will be the year a chaser dies. Nothing in this video was stupid if you're an experienced chaser.

  • Great video by the way! Very lucky that no one was seriously injured in Mapleton.

  • @rhurkes no worrries at all. We were actually with Dick and Andy at the beginning of the day.It was funny to meet up with them at almost the same time.We were all there to help out people immediatley after it hit. Debris was still flying around. Our vehicle never moved or really shook. There were no powerlines too. If it wasn't so dark out you would be seeing trees getting ripped apart a lil ahead and to the left.

  • at least you were listening to kggo 94.6 @7.05pm

  • i give you props man...i am working on compiling footage from early iowa where from what im told an ef-3 tornado ripped most of that town apart...will post more later

  • Folks. In case you are wondering, that periodic ringing you hear in the background is the "Stupid Alarm". That was waaaay too risky folks, and demonstrates the increasing competitive & double-dare mentality of the new breed of storm chaser. I have been following tornado science for 40years, and I predict that within the next 2 years, a carload of chasers will get killed or seriously injured by a tornado. Sadly, it is bound to happen sooner or later.

  • Crazy! I don't know how they want to get THAT close to a Tornado. But I loved the video. Thanks for the upload.

  • I love potato chips but wouldn't stick my face in a bag if they might instantly kill me. I say potato you say tornado; your passion for this is very admirable.

  • well at least you assisted and got out of the vehicle, that's what counts pull people from the houses with-out basements, unlike other storm chaser shoot video and leave town without bothering #mapletonia

  • well at least you assited and got out of the vehicle, thats what counts pull people from the houses with basements, unlike other storm chaser shoot video and leave town without bothering

  • WHOOSHA WOW WOW WOW ain't no way man awesome coverage though YA NUTS without people like you being NUTS enuf to get that close we sane people( LOL) wouldn't be able to see this cuz we'd be in a safe place so THANKS for the AWESOME video and if you do this professionally ya crazy nuts STAY SAFE AND THANK YOU

  • I love chasing storms and all, but why do you insist on getting into the edge of the circulation when it is that dark??

  • trust me, we knew we were pretty lucky to be alive. I never at one point felt unsafe though. i probabably wont ever get that close to a wedge again.

  • We were like deer looking into the headlights. In case you couldn't tell were professionals and know what were doing. Most people would have sharted there pants looking into that.Being that close is what I live for everyday. I'm thankful no one died in the town of Mapleton. We pulled people out of houses. It was incredible because most of the houses didn't have basements. There's some amazing people in that town

  • @jordanwrecke amazing photage but a bit reckless i say for bein professional. only one's who shoul get that close is sean and reed, joel, and chris since they have extra protective cars as you would know.

  • @jordanwrecke

I understand being professionals you will have a sense of security in what you know, but honestly being a meteorologist myself, there is a line that can be crossed regarding being a role-model for non-experienced chasers. Reed and his team make frequent statements on their sites and on that show about how no one should chase like this. I could see people easily mistaking you for just insane adrenaline junkies. Especially chasing this close in the dark? Slightly irresponsible!

  • @jordanwrecke so you were like professional deer

  • couldn't believe he wanted to drive across that bridge with a tornado in front of them...

  • Excellent!

  • Should prob put you both on a 5150 Hold !!!!

  • Wow Awesome Job !!1 But dont think I would have been so Brave !!!!

  • This is the best video of a tornado i have ever seen, Thanks guys for the video! Keep up the great work! And thanks again! AWESOME JOB!

  • I bet their is no paint left on the driveside of that car a little to close for comfort.
