Since sound travels as pressure waves to change the ear drum position, it does move. However, when we look in the ear, we occlude the ear canal, blocking any sound or pressure waves from reaching the ear drum. So if we had a camera that did not block the ear cana,l you could see it move with sound; however, that technology does not exist. Good question.
Everyone has a small amount of wax, and the wax is actually protective and decreases the probability of developing an outer ear infection or otitis externa. When the wax becomes occlusive of the ear canal, then it can become a problem. Most individuals do not need to clean the wax from the ear canals, and one should never use Q-tips in the ear canal (it even has a disclaimer stating such on the front of the box). Warm water, a 50-50 mix of H2O2 and water, or OTC debrox are your best bet OTC.
I wish I could see the scarring of my ear drums....because I had tubes put in when I was much younger. I just wanna see! =)
