  • @HoMiCiD33 eh just my opinion..my friends dad made guitars with his father and it seems hes really appreciative to it so thats why i said what i said.

  • why would any1 build his own guitar and learn that on the internet when he can buy one?..

  • @HoMiCiD33 cause it means more..but only if you make it all by yourself.

  • @ShyWallflower you don't build it all by yourself.. you buy the pieces and put them together, and that's simply the same thing in my oppinion, indeed it's your work but idk if it's really worth it..

  • only this i was expecting to see all the parts not only the fingerboard

  • 108,714 videos! Crap!

  • @KarnivalKlowns 138,714 videos

  • you guys are mean. this guy is being nice and telling you that your screwed if you make your own neck. hes right! i wanna see response videos from the people who are complaining showing a homemade neck from you guys. damn. you guys are so full of hate. just give him feedback! dont call him a redneck! dont act like your gonna kill his family or something! just watch the fucking video!

  • wats with these pointless videos from rednecks

  • @decaps4499 TIPS he is not doing it it tells you what do do dumb shit! get a freakin book from stewmac.com!

  • gay dude says he's FBI to make it all legitimate and buys a fretboard

  • @leutenant1000 it's relative to the "FBI Guitars" not the Federal Bureau of Investigation

  • Correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought this video was "how to make a fretboard", not "how to pussy out and just buy a fretboard"

  • Why expertvillage poops youtube full of these instructional videos ?

Cause they get money from advertisement.

Quality of the videos doesn´t matter for expertvillage cause they get paid by view count.

  • I don't get think he knows what he is saying =S, why the title says "MAKING the fingerboard on an electric guitar" if he only explains "go to a website and buy it"? =S omg! they really put any guy on the video u.u

  • that frank POPE is gonna rape u like a serial killer O_O

  • Where Can You Order the finger board from?

  • @mac899 just buy a new neck from warmoth.com you get to design the whole neck to yur specks

  • He is Dexter's real brother...

    Sorry dude, couldn't resist...

  • LMFAO AT THE STARE

  • LOL

  • He just can't make a video without the 10 second serial killer stare at the end

  • :D lol

  • ROFL

  • lol

  • @JonDeth bahahhahahahah

  • you know what would be nice, if they put the commercials at the end of the video

  • 1:05

    a POOP riut lingth

  • Hi, I'm going to show you how to make a guitar neck. First, buy one from Wal Mart, so if they screw up, you can sue the pants off of them for a shit load of money. Next, rub the edges with sand paper and slap it on the guitar.

  • Take a look at our video. It shows a complete build from tree to guitar. US DVD version out this week...

  • I was just trying to get a girl online for 3 hours. Now I have returned to my true passion : MUSIC!

  • What a great way to make videos! I could follow his logic and make a video on how to make a neck. "Here's how to make a neck for a guitar: Buy a pre-made neck from Stew-Mac. It'll be perfectly cut by a computer. Also buy a pre-made body, this insures that the neck and body fit perfectly. You don't want to build an awesome guitar, only to find out it's actually a piece of crap 'cuz you SUCK!!!!"

  • You may be an expert in slotting scales, I figured most just starting would not be.

  • I guess it depends on how many guitars they want to build, and how far into it they want to get. Maybe you could show them how it's slotted, and them tell them they can buy a preslotted fretboard if they didn't want to get that far into it. I think most people interested in this would like to know how to do it themselves, if they're going this far. I doubt it would discourage anyone from building, and they shouldn't be afraid to do it themselves. Your comments came across to me as discouraging.

  • dude your name is frank pope

  • That's a buncha crap. The slotting system I use is accurate to .002 inches, vs the .005 inches that production fingerboards are. Also production fretboards for sale and in factories are cut by table saws with 22 or 24 saws spaced out in the proper scale, and cut quickly all at once, then radiused by people who don't really care, and are frequently lopsided. It's better to radius the surface AFTER it's been glued onto the neck and everything has stabilized. I bet this guy CAN'T make a fretboard!

  • hey frank if you dont know how to make a guitar stop doing these crappy videos if you do know how to make an electric guitar make a video of you actually making a guitar thats what people want to know do videos of you actually doing stuf not just talking to a camera because your lonely make a video of you doing something you will be alot more popular on utube ps this video sucked ; I

  • The first time I glued a fretboard to the neck, I botched it by not having it properly clamped. There were huge gaps etc. etc. I had to pry the fingerboard off with a chisel (not a fun task, let me tell you). I was hoping to find some tips on how to do it right. I guess you get what you pay for....

  • can u make bamboo guitar ? *_*

  • possible, but seriously need alot of sanding, u dun wanna cut ur hand ^^;;

  • great presentation. you're a natural speaker. is it possible to clean up the workspace before filming? it's so distracting in that state.

  • Sorry these were shot as a favor for a film crew. They called the night before and asked me to shoot 44 segments with no script. We hauled everything we would need and piled it in the corner that you see......course I should have prepared better sorry.

  • A messy as hell shop PROVES that he does this a lot. That means he's good!

  • it definitely does. you should see my room

  • a fingerboard is the sound board of any stringed instrument that you place your fingers on... a fret board is the sound board of any fretted stringed instrument that you put your fingers on... thats how i see it... id say he calls it a fingerboard because if he is a profession luthier he probbaly makes other things like violins and such and those fingerboards are almost the same as a guitar frerboard besides length and the fact that they dont have frets... same wood too

  • so you didnt make it you just sanded it i seen the title i was like wow this guy must be a genus but then i watched and i was disappointed.

  • "You want to visually sight..."

  • This is really, Hears one I made earlier and I'll chat shit about how to do it.

  • How to make a fingerboard:

    1. take a wood and make fingerboard.

    2. done

    ... :/

  • sence when was the fret board called a finger board

  • its called that quite ofter, actually

  • I am sort of an old guy who has been playing guitars since the age of 8, and it has always been a fingerboard to me. The terms fretboard and fingerboard have become synonymous over time and making a big deal out of what to call it is really silly. You will see it referred to as a fingerboard in most guitar maker's descriptions...go have a look on the web and see how many of each of the two terms you will find, and be sure you are looking at guitar maker's websites.

  • i didnt mean that offensively or sarcastic i seriously didnt know that you could call it a fingerboard i just thought that it sounded funny

  • i think it could be technically considered a fingerboard before it acutally has frets on it...

  • boring!!!!

  • if i'm gonna order the fingerboard from the manufacturer how come is it homemade?? show me how to make fingerboard dude!

  • he explained that, it's cut by computer which is more accurate than a person could cut

  • yeah i heard,

i just wanted to know the tips on marking the exact distances.

i surely need a more technical info and have to engineer it to make it 100% homemade.

  • how much are fingerboards nowadays???

  • Pre slotted can range from 13.00 to over 100.

  • I MADE A SHECKET LIKE that n im 12 it took so long i got pissed off so i told my dad to do it....lol but it works so good n i hardly had to waste money jus fer them 2 send n stuff

  • google it its called a squier S73

  • FBI Guitarist? WTF?

    o.O

  • dude the point of MAKEING a guitar dossnt mean you order parts

  • You've clearly never made a guitar. It is extremely expensive, takes a lot of time, and a lot of space and tools, Bodies should be made, necks are extremely hard to make.

  • I woud never attempt making a neck,. Id buy the sucker fretted with a blank headstock if I wanted custom. They're cheap enough.

  • Good answer. I would do the same.

  • I agree I would only make a neck-thru guitar all the way but bolt on is better to just build the body and buy the neck.

  • you wanna buy sommat off a good established guitar company. btw fender sucks. hehe

  • yeah dean fucking rocks

  • easiest thing buy the cheapest squire model and mod it to your likes

  • my squier SG sounds awesome

  • squier SG ?? does it exist ?? hahah lol I have an epiphone stratocaster

  • where do you order the fingerboard?

  • why are people saying i would rather buy one?

if you dont want to make your own guitar why are you watching the vid!! dumbasses..

  • I agree.

  • Brian May laughs.

  • lol. thank you so much for that

  • he never does anything ..

  • just buy a squier, it's cheaper than buying parts and doing it yourself, you can still mod it if you want to make it YOURS

  • But Squier sucks, I mean really sucks! Everything about it is the cheapest possible material available, it sounds worse than fingernails on a chalk board, and it screams "I'm a huge cheapo, please disregard my playing talent because I own this garbage"

  • i own a squier and sounds really good...maybe i got lucky

  • you definitely got lucky. when the quality control is so lax on something like that a wide range of stuff gets through. there are a few gems.... but most of it is garbage. i dont think ive ever played a good squier but im sure they're out there

  • That's because it's for beginners/

  • you glue it on? thats it. simple as...

  • I rather buy one seriously.

  • just a tip on short scale instruments. each fret is a certaian percentage away from the next fret. the fret transition formula does not change. for example, you have a bass fingerboard with the slots cut for 34" scale. if you cut out the first fret, then it can be used as a 32" scale (not exactly 32", there is a small decimal there too). it will not be inacurate whatsoever. thought that would be helpful to those who can't find short scale fingerboards

  • you can do a great slotting job with a template and a fret saw or table saw with a stew mac fret cutter blade. i would not trust myself to do it just by reading calculations though.

  • its definitely possible but someone who hasnt done a lot of woodworking probably wouldnt get great results freehand

  • hwat wit thw boddy? and arr this vid sucks!

  • stew mac or lmi.

  • i dont think he ever looked away from the camera

  • 1:24

  • he looked away at: 0:13, 0:15, 0:17, 0:27, 0:41, 0:44, 0:47, 1:00, 1:03, 1:06, 1:11, 1:14, 1:15, 1:22, 1:24, and 1:27.

He looked away 16 diffrent times.

You must be blind if you didnt see him look away once.

  • I cant believe u think otherwise , you should do anything to proove your point - that's metal

  • ahahah, truue =P

  • ...cant believe you noted the times just to prove a point. lmao...bless...

  • look relly small...

  • Thx Frank, let me tell you guys, you are so lucky with a store like this,i'd kill to get a store like stewart-macdonald in Belgium!

Good thing they ship to anywhere in the world LOL! so i don't have to kill anyone :))

Keep building & shredding you guys!

    Peace

  • they sure do. stewmac is awesome.

  • Hey there Frank, first of all thanks for posting all these vids, some have proved to be verry usefull!

My question is: You talk about a manufacturer that delivers ready-made fretboards, can you give me some names or sites where i can find them, cause i've been looking for ever!:)

    Grtz from Peter, Belgium

  • stewart macdonald

  • I Have That Shirt. lol.

  • i read somewhere on the net that there are only two glues suitable for guitars one of them was titebond professional wood glue and you can get it from most diy type shops hope this helps

  • what glue to use

  • sry if i sound silly but

what is the radius that u were about?

  • radius is the curve of the fretboard. radius is the size of the circle which the curve would correspond to. did that make sense?

  • Hey Frank Flemming calling from Denmark i can see you got som great stuff going one but....

you talk to mutch sory to say can´t you show us how you building guitars and make the cuts and more it makes its easyer for ppl when they got a proff builder to show what he is doing so make som long vidios instead of making them only 2-5 min make them maby 10 min and then show us what and how to make it:)

  • What would be the scale for a 27-fret guitar?

  • Most are 25 1/2. You can order a 26 for a baritone if you do not mind the increased tension or are going to play in a dropped tuning.

  • Good advice thanks for taking the time out to post

  • "How to make your finger board" i thought when u said that u ment MAKE a finger board not BUY a fingerboard

  • Exactly! it f****** annoys me cuz this int helping

  • Sorry, I was not involved in titles or captions. I did these as a favor for a production crew. I do suggest buying a CNC cut fingerboard unlees you need a special scale compound radius....just too much room for error. You can buy them at Stewart MacDonald(on line). If you really want to cut your own slots, you can buy a jig from them as well and cut your own slots.

  • thx for setting that straight

  • where can i buy a finger board

  • stewart macdonald

  • The title is "Making the Fingerboard".... In the video you say you shouldn't make a fingerboard!

  • I was not involved in the editing. I was not consulted about titles as the production co. just came and shot raw footage. I am not a retail builder and was not paid to do these. I do suggest that new builders use cnc fingerboards. In fact, I will only build one if I need a special one or I need a short scale with a compound radious.

  • yeah youre right. wtf?

  • Oh, That's great. I never knew I could learn how to make my own guitar in only 1:46.

  • I'd like to know your site also, but also where I can order a fretboard.

please send me a PM to tell me.

    I'd really appreciate that.

  • yes where and ur pretty good at guitars

  • Where is your website Frank?

  • I do not currently have a site. I am not a retail builder. I do custom builds for mostly pros. I plan to have site soon but it will be for info or help not for retail sales. Try stewart macdonald for a fretboard.
