  • Bravo...ottimo fraseggio e gran bel suono caldo malgrado il piccolo canneggio

  • I like your trombone, is that a SilverSonic?

  • @1WFE3 I was wondering the same thing. It looks mine. I have a SilverSonic 3B 2103PLS. It's probably the best horn I've had. The second best was the Bach Stradavarius w/ F attachement. This would have been #1 but the bell and bore was a little smaller than I wanted. It had a beautiful tone, though.

  • @Slushpup2 Yes, I'm a freshman and my high school has a SilverSonic which is what I will be using for the next 4 years. Best horn I've ever had.

  • @1WFE3 You attend a very fortunate school. When I was in high school (when cavemen roamed) you either had to have your own horn or borrowed one of the beat-up Kings the school had to offer. Luckily, I had my own.

  • just one thing... vibrato is too wide!:/ otherwise it was great. with a bit less vibrato, it sounds more controlled and cleaner, having it TOO wide is just too messy and unorganized. Great playing and god virtuosity to you. kudos trombonian!

  • you are killing it! great licks! do you know about nocca?

  • pretty good!

  • Your tone very much reminds me of Bill Watrous. Very big and beautiful. It's my opinion that your soloing needs an infusion of bebop language (even on a ballad), but other than that, sounds really good.

  • Anyone know how I could get the accompaniment for this? Thanks

  • I LOVE the sound!

  • @xcolordeficient1134x Yes its in the standard Fake books

  • Beautiful playing! I'd kill for your tone!

Do you happen to have the sheet music and/or accompaniment for this chart that you could possibly email me? Thanks!

  • @Jubhub1013 dude just get a Real Book

this song is in the sith edition

  • Very pretty!!

  • do you know what key/form this is?

  • Very professional :)

  • Very nice playing on a beautiful tune. Love the tone and note choices in the solo...very tasteful!

  • great vibrato

  • hey man, you sound great. I hope we get to meet sometime, and I can get a lesson from you.

  • Thanks! appreciate the comments.

  • very nice tone

  • great sound and playing!

  • what mouthpiece do you use?i use denis wick heritage 12CS.

  • I use a bach 12C megatone.

  • All you needed was a tux and dimly lighted room. Very nice.

  • Thanks. Yes, ambiance definitely helps.

  • Nice job. Enjoyable to hear you play.

  • Thanks for the nice comments.

  • Hey

You wouldn't mind sending me the play-along? It would be much appreciated for a poor student as myself.

  • wow, i would get my trombone right now, but its midnight :'( do you have a cd out?

  • Thanks. No CDs right now.

  • Sounds really great! Where did you get the backgrounds for the song?

  • Thanks. That came from jamey aebersold play along cd JJ Johnson.

  • Nice sounds you're making with that thing. Love it! Keep playing the trombone, you're really good at it.

  • Thanks for the nice comments.

  • man I love this song. how long have you been playing

  • Thanks. About 30 years. Started playing jazz when I was about 12 and got into improvisation at 18.

  • wat is the name of the book?

  • JJ Johnson play along. It's a jamey aebersold cd.

  • Lovely. JJ would be pleased. And playing it as a Bossa Nova is something CF might have done.

  • Thanks! I appreciate the nice comments.

  • You sound great man!!!! I wish I was half as good. I gotta practice on keeping my breath flow.

  • i agree! I'm gonna be using this as my audition piece for Berklee in like 2-3 months! I like this piece a lot =)

  • Thanks, I found it helpful to record myself and play it back. That way you can critique your playing from a listeners standpoint.

  • yea I'll try that

  • hey man that was really nice, i had this book but i misplaced it, did u happen to get to any of the ones later on in the book like coffee pot?

  • I have to say the lament one was my favorite in the book. I have probably 20 or so play along cds so I tend to work on the ones that interest me the most. Thanks for the comments!

  • You go, man!!!! Awesome playing. Nice velvet tone.

  • Appreciate the comments.

  • Love your playing but one thing i dont really like the bossa ver. can u play it w/ the ballad ver. i want to hear u on it. nice playing and good tone.

  • Thanks for the nice comments. I think there is a slower version on the JJ cd but haven't gotten around to playing it that much.

  • Well preformed and I like your solo. where did you get the latin version from. And how did JJ get the original phased sound in Lament in Tokyo.

  • Thanks. The cd comes from jamey abersold "JJ Johnson" play along. I don't quite understand your question about Tokyo.

  • I heard it first on a double LP,of JJ in Japan. He had some trick to split his sound and phase it, like guitar players sometimes do, I liked it a lot, but can't find the LP.

Do you know Yesterdays of JJ with O peterson

(and stan getz, who has tacet on that brilliant track ?

  • No, but I'll try to check it out. Thanks.

  • wow can u play high. i've been playing for 7 years and the highest note i can hit is a high G in sharp 2nd

  • Thanks. I do play on a bach 12C mouth piece which does help with high range. There are some players that can use a 1G and hit those high notes which is also very impressive.

  • is the highest note u play in here a F?

  • No, probably a C or D flat. I don't remember exactly. If you haven't heard some dynamite trombone players lately, I would strongly suggest checking out airmenofnote com site and click on the sounds link to check out all of the mp3s available. I recently heard the Tiempo Latino album which has Black Nile track and that sounded awesome with Joe Jackson, Jeff Martin and Ben Patterson.

  • great playin! did u practice alot bak in high skool?

  • Thanks. I got interested in jazz back in 7th grade when I saw a stage band performance at my middle. I started improvising in my junior or senior year, mainly to jamey abersold play alongs.

  • at the age of 15. would 2 hours b enough practice(aimin 4 professional)

  • 1st thing I would do is get a private jazz trombone instructor. You will need some structure in how you practice, otherwise you might end up developing bad habits or missing certain exercises needed to develop your playing abilities. Some of the skills needed besides improvising to play alongs is tonguing which may include double tonguing and doodle tonguing, flexibility, scales (including jazz modes), and style (how you sound when playing the horn).

  • I know this was directed for the person playing in the video, but i may be of assistance. I'm a Trombone major in college, and an avid aspiring Jazz Trombonist. Getting a private instructor is a great idea, they can set you in the right direction as far as good practice habits and such. I was just going to add that you should get the First Aebersold it has really cool exercises for beginning jazz players.

  • The best MP I got in Munich,Gebrueder Hablowitz, but the bore was to small for me coming from Eb Tuba,so I had the shop widening the bore, I tried it liked it, the guy then wanted to smooth out the edge (make it a bit rounded) I said DON'T touch it its perfect with its sharp corner.

  • well done!

  • Thanks.

  • hey man this is great... you play right in the groove and i just love the texture of your sound!!! you're playing is soo relaxed and that's what i'm having trouble with right now on this tune... nice job

  • Thanks. Hit the play alongs like jamey abersold and that will help with the groove part. And listen to some good bands like at airmenofnote com. Great trombone players in the airmen of note.

  • how many years have u been playing trombone...you have a great sound...i been playing trombone for 2 years but im not that good like you..ohh yeah what kind of trombone are you using??

  • Thanks. I've been playing for about 25 years. I have been using a king 2b silversonic for the past 15 years.

  • Nice.I'm playing this for a jazz transcription project at my school.

  • Well done. Well done. (Props to ya)

  • great job, i loved it.

can you by chance e-mail me then sheet music?

    by scaning it?

    thanks .

  • Glad you liked it. I can't send it to you but it's the JJ Johnson play along book and cd through jamey abersold. You can get it online at abersold com.

  • thanks. i ll check it out.

  • Thanks adammerlinsmith. I played the head and then improvised.

  • Brother, do you play professionally? You have great sound.

  • Hi, I'd like to ask some questions about your trombone.

Does having a 2b make lower registers a whole lot harder? And what is the sound difference between a sterling silver horn and a regular brass one? And if there are differences, how major/minor are they?

  • Good question. Low register seems pretty good actually. I've never tried a brass king so I wouldn't know but I've been told that the brass only has less resistance and therefore easier to play loud. I do notice that when I play on a bach 36b that my flexibility between notes is better.

  • Nice, even sound!

  • Thanks!

  • Hey, could you record "Boneology"? I would really love to hear that song on your profile.

  • I'll see what I can do.

  • Hey, you sound really great. I have a 2b liberty myself, and i was wondering how you got the background music for your songs. Is there a place i can download them from a website or something. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the comments! I'm not aware of a site where you can download this abersold recording. You can purchase the JJ Johnson play along CD by Jamey Abersold online or at a place like Sam Ash. There are some free improv downloads at this location jazzpianotracks com

  • from one trombonist to another, I think you did very well. You must be playing from the Jamey Ambersol Book (Book of J.J. songs). I didn't think Lament was recorded that fast.

  • Thanks. Yeah the abersold cd has two versions, one that's faster and one that's slower. The slower one is fun to play also. I assume you have that cd?

  • I've been meaning to order that book for months and I I just ordered it last monday. I got about 5 abersold books. Miles Davis is one of my favorites particularly green in blue and nardis.

  • is that the 2b? it's got a nice, bright tone. i've been wanting one for a while. my 3b is great, but sometimes i feel like it's too much horn for certain things.

  • Yes, it is a 2b. If I were to get another trombone it would probably be the same one. I really like this trombone.

  • Wow!!! Sounded great!

  • Appreciate the nice comments. Thanks.

  • Beautiful!

I long for jj, too and

    King Silversonic trombone 3b 1974model

    It plays

  • Thanks! Yeah the silversonic is great horn. Nice open sound to it.

  • as I rated this video 5 starts-AMAZING,

even Jazz isnt exactly my style,I love your playing, you sounds really good hmm,I agree with the good things that the other said, I would like to see more vids from you, well done!

  • appreciate the inspiring comments, am glad you liked it.

  • will we have the pleasure to see you perform "Im Getting Sentimental Over You"?

  • I'll see what I can do.

  • hey i have the same exact horn as you, its really an amazing horn; plays real well. Oh and btw great tone :)

  • Yeah the King brand has a nice sound compared to some other brands I've used. Thanks for the comments!

  • Nice. Do you play with a group? Sound like you have been playing for awhile(?).

  • Thank you! Been playing for about 25 years. Am currently playing with a group in san antonio called the river city big band. It gets together once a week and we play a local venues.

  • I'm in OK - will try to hear you when visiting my cuz in TX, if the rain ever ceases. I trust you have listened to Frank Rosolino.

  • Still raining here. There are actually a few Rosolino vids on youtube and they definitely show the amazing talent that he has.

  • Yes, think I'm seen most of them and am still angry he isn't alive. I lived in NY and met him and he extremely funny.

  • Is that a King Silversonic trombone ?

  • Yes, it's the 1993 anniversary model 2B which I bought about 12 years ago used. Am also currently using a bach 12c megatone mouthpiece which seems to work the best for my mouth.

  • great intonation and tone!

  • Thanks for the nice comments.

  • you sound good, man.keep it up

  • Appreciate It!

  • Yeah!

  • Thanks.
