@rugby1mastaz98 Arma 2 is essentially the civilian versions of VBS2. From my experience, the player base of it, as a lot Military and ex military playing and future military. It's a great place to hear plenty of horror story of real war. It likely have good effect on PTSD as well. So yeah i think it's the best game.

@imsocool105 Yeah, people still play. Can be a little sparse, at times, but you'll always find a game. Most difficult part, I've found, is installing mods (i.e. ACE, maps, etc.). Takes a little time, but there're enough vanilla servers to compensate if you've'n't the patience.

ARMA 2 Combined Operations. Most of the community plays on that. Everything else is just expansion packs that you do not need to play on most servers.

@MrPantatRebus Arma OA is a stand alone so you don't need Arma 2. Reinforcements is also a stand alone but it can be used with Arma 2 or Arma OA or played by itself.

I don't know why people are saying teenagers suck at this game, I'm 15 and 99% of the time the people I play with give me a recommendation for being a good sport and giving it a go. I'm usually the lead and many of them actually listen to my orders and we finish the mission(s) really quickly.

@Morsemorta Think of the game as a toybox. You're given a bunch of things and you're only limited by your imagination. ARMA is by far the most realistic shooter on the market that's available to the average joe with 40-60 dollars. That being said, there are still a lot of things from real life that it can't immitate well (like CQB) but luckily, the game is easily moddable. If you know the A.I., then you don't have to be too tactical however with this many people playing

@Morsemorta , it would be a clusterfuck if you didn't play like they are doing above. All the people in USMC desert marpat are actual people but the OpFor is A.I. The basic game is fun on it's own but ARMA becomes invaluable when you take advantage of the mods made for it. There is an ARMA 2 free available (google it or download the ARMA 2 demo on steam) if you want a test run of how the game plays but beware multiplayer servers. Most of the things you do, you need to be tactical

@Morsemorta and work together. However just like in most FPS multiplayers, there are people who lone wolf and people who wanna work together. As for the squads and enemies, the squad sizes can be as big as you want and anyone can be OpFor or BluFor. Just depends on how the mission is set up using the in-game editor. There are no set loadouts (unless you set it that way). There are crates usually in every game and you can pick weapons out of them and customize your loadout.

@AxTROUSRxMISSLE Most of the games servers are still very active, and ARMA is an OK place to start PC gaming, a lot of it relies on spotting and reflexes than skill. You can pick up how to play very easily from the campaign, as they're both very similar.

If you don't mind dying alot for the first 10 hours you will be fine, if you find a clan you will be fine also. There are many private games only accessible by clans.
