BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) -- China announced it will begin withdrawing troops from Tibet beginning June 4, 2009. The troop withdrawal is to be completed by October 1, 2009, with all territorial, administrative and cultural control returned to the Government of Tibet. The Tibet-China border will be sealed in the October 1st ceremony, reenacting the Tibet-China Treaty of 821; a replicate of the Jokhang Pillar will be placed at Kumbum Monastery, with a promise to foster friendly economic ties.
